1 A dão teve relações com Eva, sua mulher, e ela engravidou e deu à luz Caim. Disse ela: “Com o auxílio do Senhor tive um filho homem”.

And Adam knew Eve as his wife, and she became pregnant and bore Cain; and she said, I have gotten and gained a man with the help of the Lord.

2 V oltou a dar à luz, desta vez a Abel, irmão dele. Abel tornou-se pastor de ovelhas, e Caim, agricultor.

And she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

3 P assado algum tempo, Caim trouxe do fruto da terra uma oferta ao Senhor.

And in the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground.

4 A bel, por sua vez, trouxe as partes gordas das primeiras crias do seu rebanho. O Senhor aceitou com agrado Abel e sua oferta,

And Abel brought of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat portions. And the Lord had respect and regard for Abel and for his offering,

5 m as não aceitou Caim e sua oferta. Por isso Caim se enfureceu e o seu rosto se transtornou.

But for Cain and his offering He had no respect or regard. So Cain was exceedingly angry and indignant, and he looked sad and depressed.

6 O Senhor disse a Caim: “Por que você está furioso? Por que se transtornou o seu rosto?

And the Lord said to Cain, Why are you angry? And why do you look sad and depressed and dejected?

7 S e você fizer o bem, não será aceito? Mas se não o fizer, saiba que o pecado o ameaça à porta; ele deseja conquistá-lo, mas você deve dominá-lo”.

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you, but you must master it.

8 D isse, porém, Caim a seu irmão Abel: “Vamos para o campo”. Quando estavam lá, Caim atacou seu irmão Abel e o matou.

And Cain said to his brother, Let us go out to the field. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

9 E ntão o Senhor perguntou a Caim: “Onde está seu irmão Abel?” Respondeu ele: “Não sei; sou eu o responsável por meu irmão?”

And the Lord said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?

10 D isse o Senhor: “O que foi que você fez? Escute! Da terra o sangue do seu irmão está clamando.

And said, What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground.

11 A gora amaldiçoado é você pela terra, que abriu a boca para receber da sua mão o sangue do seu irmão.

And now you are cursed by reason of the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.

12 Q uando você cultivar a terra, esta não lhe dará mais da sua força. Você será um fugitivo errante pelo mundo”.

When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength; you shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth.

13 D isse Caim ao Senhor: “Meu castigo é maior do que posso suportar.

Then Cain said to the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

14 H oje me expulsas desta terra, e terei que me esconder da tua face; serei um fugitivo errante pelo mundo, e qualquer que me encontrar me matará”.

Behold, You have driven me out this day from the face of the land, and from Your face I will be hidden; and I will be a fugitive and a vagabond and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.

15 M as o Senhor lhe respondeu: “Não será assim; se alguém matar Caim, sofrerá sete vezes a vingança”. E o Senhor colocou em Caim um sinal, para que ninguém que viesse a encontrá-lo o matasse.

And the Lord said to him, Therefore, if anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark or sign upon Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.

16 E ntão Caim afastou-se da presença do Senhor e foi viver na terra de Node, a leste do Éden. Os Descendentes de Caim

So Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

17 C aim teve relações com sua mulher, e ela engravidou e deu à luz Enoque. Depois Caim fundou uma cidade, à qual deu o nome do seu filho Enoque.

And Cain’s wife became pregnant and bore Enoch; and Cain built a city and named it after his son Enoch.

18 A Enoque nasceu Irade, Irade gerou a Meujael, Meujael a Metusael, e Metusael a Lameque.

To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael the father of Methusael, and Methusael the father of Lamech.

19 L ameque tomou duas mulheres: uma chamava-se Ada e a outra, Zilá.

And Lamech took two wives; the name of the one was Adah and of the other was Zillah.

20 A da deu à luz Jabal, que foi o pai daqueles que moram em tendas e criam rebanhos.

Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have cattle and purchase possessions.

21 O nome do irmão dele era Jubal, que foi o pai de todos os que tocam harpa e flauta.

His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.

22 Z ilá também deu à luz um filho, chamado Tubalcaim, que fabricava todo tipo de ferramentas de bronze e de ferro. Tubalcaim teve uma irmã chamada Naamá.

Zillah bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23 D isse Lameque às suas mulheres: “Ada e Zilá, ouçam-me; mulheres de Lameque, escutem minhas palavras: Eu matei um homem porque me feriu, e um menino, porque me machucou.

Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say; for I have slain a man for wounding me, and a young man for striking and bruising me.

24 S e Caim é vingado sete vezes, Lameque o será setenta e sete”. O Nascimento de Sete

If Cain is avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy-sevenfold.

25 N ovamente Adão teve relações com sua mulher, e ela deu à luz outro filho, a quem chamou Sete, dizendo: “Deus me concedeu um filho no lugar de Abel, visto que Caim o matou”.

And Adam’s wife again became pregnant, and she bore a son and called his name Seth. For God, she said, has appointed for me another child instead of Abel, for Cain slew him.

26 T ambém a Sete nasceu um filho, a quem deu o nome de Enos. Nessa época começou-se a invocar o nome do Senhor.

And to Seth also a son was born, whom he named Enosh. At that time men began to call by the name of the Lord.
