1 O s fariseus ouviram falar que Jesus estava fazendo e batizando mais discípulos do que João,

Now when the Lord knew (learned, became aware) that the Pharisees had been told that Jesus was winning and baptizing more disciples than John—

2 e mbora não fosse Jesus quem batizasse, mas os seus discípulos.

Though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples—

3 Q uando o Senhor ficou sabendo disso, saiu da Judéia e voltou uma vez mais à Galiléia.

He left Judea and returned to Galilee.

4 E ra-lhe necessário passar por Samaria.

It was necessary for Him to go through Samaria.

5 A ssim, chegou a uma cidade de Samaria, chamada Sicar, perto das terras que Jacó dera a seu filho José.

And in doing so, He arrived at a Samaritan town called Sychar, near the tract of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6 H avia ali o poço de Jacó. Jesus, cansado da viagem, sentou-se à beira do poço. Isto se deu por volta do meio-dia.

And Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, tired as He was from His journey, sat down by the well. It was then about the sixth hour (about noon).

7 N isso veio uma mulher samaritana tirar água. Disse-lhe Jesus: “Dê-me um pouco de água”.

Presently, when a woman of Samaria came along to draw water, Jesus said to her, Give Me a drink—

8 ( Os seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade comprar comida.)

For His disciples had gone off into the town to buy food—

9 A mulher samaritana lhe perguntou: “Como o senhor, sendo judeu, pede a mim, uma samaritana, água para beber?” (Pois os judeus não se dão bem com os samaritanos. )

The Samaritan woman said to Him, How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?—For the Jews have nothing to do with the Samaritans—

10 J esus lhe respondeu: “Se você conhecesse o dom de Deus e quem lhe está pedindo água, você lhe teria pedido e ele lhe teria dado água viva”.

Jesus answered her, If you had only known and had recognized God’s gift and Who this is that is saying to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.

11 D isse a mulher: “O senhor não tem com que tirar água, e o poço é fundo. Onde pode conseguir essa água viva?

She said to Him, Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; how then can You provide living water?

12 A caso o senhor é maior do que o nosso pai Jacó, que nos deu o poço, do qual ele mesmo bebeu, bem como seus filhos e seu gado?”

Are You greater than and superior to our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well and who used to drink from it himself, and his sons and his cattle also?

13 J esus respondeu: “Quem beber desta água terá sede outra vez,

Jesus answered her, All who drink of this water will be thirsty again.

14 m as quem beber da água que eu lhe der nunca mais terá sede. Ao contrário, a água que eu lhe der se tornará nele uma fonte de água a jorrar para a vida eterna”.

But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) within him unto (into, for) eternal life.

15 A mulher lhe disse: “Senhor, dê-me dessa água, para que eu não tenha mais sede, nem precise voltar aqui para tirar água”.

The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never get thirsty nor have to come here to draw.

16 E le lhe disse: “Vá, chame o seu marido e volte”.

At this, Jesus said to her, Go, call your husband and come back here.

17 “ Não tenho marido”, respondeu ela. Disse-lhe Jesus: “Você falou corretamente, dizendo que não tem marido.

The woman answered, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have spoken truly in saying, I have no husband.

18 O fato é que você já teve cinco; e o homem com quem agora vive não é seu marido. O que você acabou de dizer é verdade”.

For you have had five husbands, and the man you are now living with is not your husband. In this you have spoken truly.

19 D isse a mulher: “Senhor, vejo que é profeta.

The woman said to Him, Sir, I see and understand that You are a prophet.

20 N ossos antepassados adoraram neste monte, mas vocês, judeus, dizem que Jerusalém é o lugar onde se deve adorar”.

Our forefathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary and proper to worship.

21 J esus declarou: “Creia em mim, mulher: está próxima a hora em que vocês não adorarão o Pai nem neste monte, nem em Jerusalém.

Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

22 V ocês, samaritanos, adoram o que não conhecem; nós adoramos o que conhecemos, pois a salvação vem dos judeus.

You do not know what you are worshiping. We do know what we are worshiping, for salvation comes from the Jews.

23 N o entanto, está chegando a hora, e de fato já chegou, em que os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão o Pai em espírito e em verdade. São estes os adoradores que o Pai procura.

A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers.

24 D eus é espírito, e é necessário que os seus adoradores o adorem em espírito e em verdade”.

God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

25 D isse a mulher: “Eu sei que o Messias (chamado Cristo) está para vir. Quando ele vier, explicará tudo para nós”.

The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, He Who is called the Christ (the Anointed One); and when He arrives, He will tell us everything we need to know and make it clear to us.

26 E ntão Jesus declarou: “Eu sou o Messias! Eu, que estou falando com você”. Os Discípulos Voltam da Cidade

Jesus said to her, I Who now speak with you am He.

27 N aquele momento os seus discípulos voltaram e ficaram surpresos ao encontrá-lo conversando com uma mulher. Mas ninguém perguntou: “Que queres saber?” ou: “Por que estás conversando com ela?”

Just then His disciples came and they wondered (were surprised, astonished) to find Him talking with a woman. However, not one of them asked Him, What are You inquiring about? or What do You want? or, Why do You speak with her?

28 E ntão, deixando o seu cântaro, a mulher voltou à cidade e disse ao povo:

Then the woman left her water jar and went away to the town. And she began telling the people,

29 “ Venham ver um homem que me disse tudo o que tenho feito. Será que ele não é o Cristo?”

Come, see a Man Who has told me everything that I ever did! Can this be the Christ?

30 E ntão saíram da cidade e foram para onde ele estava.

So the people left the town and set out to go to Him.

31 E nquanto isso, os discípulos insistiam com ele: “Mestre, come alguma coisa”.

Meanwhile, the disciples urged Him saying, Rabbi, eat something.

32 M as ele lhes disse: “Tenho algo para comer que vocês não conhecem”.

But He assured them, I have food (nourishment) to eat of which you know nothing and have no idea.

33 E ntão os seus discípulos disseram uns aos outros: “Será que alguém lhe trouxe comida?”

So the disciples said one to another, Has someone brought Him something to eat?

34 D isse Jesus: “A minha comida é fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou e concluir a sua obra.

Jesus said to them, My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him Who sent Me and to accomplish and completely finish His work.

35 V ocês não dizem: ‘Daqui a quatro meses haverá a colheita’? Eu lhes digo: Abram os olhos e vejam os campos! Eles estão maduros para a colheita.

Do you not say, It is still four months until harvest time comes? Look! I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields and see how they are already white for harvesting.

36 A quele que colhe já recebe o seu salário e colhe fruto para a vida eterna, de forma que se alegram juntos o que semeia e o que colhe.

Already the reaper is getting his wages, for he is gathering fruit (crop) unto life eternal, so that he who does the planting and he who does the reaping may rejoice together.

37 A ssim é verdadeiro o ditado: ‘Um semeia, e outro colhe’.

For in this the saying holds true, One sows and another reaps.

38 E u os enviei para colherem o que vocês não cultivaram. Outros realizaram o trabalho árduo, e vocês vieram a usufruir do trabalho deles”. Muitos Samaritanos Crêem

I sent you to reap a crop for which you have not toiled. Other men have labored and you have stepped in to reap the results of their work.

39 M uitos samaritanos daquela cidade creram nele por causa do seguinte testemunho dado pela mulher: “Ele me disse tudo o que tenho feito”.

Now numerous Samaritans from that town believed in and trusted in Him because of what the woman said when she declared and testified, He told me everything that I ever did.

40 A ssim, quando se aproximaram dele, os samaritanos insistiram em que ficasse com eles, e ele ficou dois dias.

So when the Samaritans arrived, they asked Him to remain with them, and He did stay there two days.

41 E por causa da sua palavra, muitos outros creram.

Then many more believed in and adhered to and relied on Him because of His personal message.

42 E disseram à mulher: “Agora cremos não somente por causa do que você disse, pois nós mesmos o ouvimos e sabemos que este é realmente o Salvador do mundo”. Jesus Cura o Filho de um Oficial

And they told the woman, Now we no longer believe (trust, have faith) just because of what you said; for we have heard Him ourselves, and we know that He truly is the Savior of the world, the Christ.

43 D epois daqueles dois dias, ele partiu para a Galiléia.

But after these two days Jesus went on from there into Galilee—

44 ( O próprio Jesus tinha afirmado que nenhum profeta tem honra em sua própria terra.)

Although He Himself declared that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

45 Q uando chegou à Galiléia, os galileus deram-lhe boas-vindas. Eles tinham visto tudo o que ele fizera em Jerusalém, por ocasião da festa da Páscoa, pois também haviam estado lá.

However, when He came into Galilee, the Galileans also welcomed Him and took Him to their hearts eagerly, for they had seen everything that He did in Jerusalem during the Feast; for they too had attended the Feast.

46 M ais uma vez ele visitou Caná da Galiléia, onde tinha transformado água em vinho. E havia ali um oficial do rei, cujo filho estava doente em Cafarnaum.

So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son was lying ill in Capernaum.

47 Q uando ele ouviu falar que Jesus tinha chegado à Galiléia, vindo da Judéia, procurou-o e suplicou-lhe que fosse curar seu filho, que estava à beira da morte.

Having heard that Jesus had come back from Judea into Galilee, he went away to meet Him and began to beg Him to come down and cure his son, for he was lying at the point of death.

48 D isse-lhe Jesus: “Se vocês não virem sinais e maravilhas, nunca crerão”.

Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and miracles happen, you never will believe (trust, have faith) at all.

49 O oficial do rei disse: “Senhor, vem, antes que o meu filho morra!”

The king’s officer pleaded with Him, Sir, do come down at once before my little child is dead!

50 J esus respondeu: “Pode ir. O seu filho continuará vivo”. O homem confiou na palavra de Jesus e partiu.

Jesus answered him, Go in peace; your son will live! And the man put his trust in what Jesus said and started home.

51 E stando ele ainda a caminho, seus servos vieram ao seu encontro com notícias de que o menino estava vivo.

But even as he was on the road going down, his servants met him and reported, saying, Your son lives!

52 Q uando perguntou a que horas o seu filho tinha melhorado, eles lhe disseram: “A febre o deixou ontem, à uma hora da tarde ”.

So he asked them at what time he had begun to get better. They said, Yesterday during the seventh hour (about one o’clock in the afternoon) the fever left him.

53 E ntão o pai constatou que aquela fora exatamente a hora em que Jesus lhe dissera: “O seu filho continuará vivo”. Assim, creram ele e todos os de sua casa.

Then the father knew that it was at that very hour when Jesus had said to him, Your son will live. And he and his entire household believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Jesus).

54 E sse foi o segundo sinal miraculoso que Jesus realizou, depois que veio da Judéia para a Galiléia.

This is the second sign (wonderwork, miracle) that Jesus performed after He had come out of Judea into Galilee.
