1 E ntão Bildade, de Suá, respondeu:

And Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,

2 “ Até quando você vai falar desse modo? Suas palavras são um grande vendaval!

How long wilt thou speak these things? and the words of thy mouth be a strong wind?

3 A caso Deus torce a justiça? Será que o Todo-poderoso torce o que é direito?

Doth God pervert judgment, and the Almighty pervert justice?

4 Q uando os seus filhos pecaram contra ele, ele os castigou pelo mal que fizeram.

If thy children have sinned against him, he hath also given them over into the hand of their transgression.

5 M as, se você procurar a Deus e implorar junto ao Todo-poderoso,

If thou seek earnestly unto God, and make thy supplication to the Almighty,

6 s e você for íntegro e puro, ele se levantará agora mesmo em seu favor e o restabelecerá no lugar que por justiça cabe a você.

If thou be pure and upright, surely now he will awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous;

7 O seu começo parecerá modesto, mas o seu futuro será de grande prosperidade.

And though thy beginning was small, yet thine end shall be very great.

8 “ Pergunte às gerações anteriores e veja o que os seus pais aprenderam,

For inquire, I pray thee, of the former generation, and attend to the researches of their fathers;

9 p ois nós nascemos ontem e não sabemos nada. Nossos dias na terra não passam de uma sombra.

For we are of yesterday, and know nothing, for our days upon earth are a shadow.

10 A caso eles não o instruirão, não lhe falarão? Não proferirão palavras vindas do entendimento?

Shall not they teach thee, tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

11 P oderá o papiro crescer senão no pântano? Sem água cresce o junco?

Doth the papyrus shoot up without mire? doth the reed-grass grow without water?

12 M al cresce e, antes de ser colhido, seca-se, mais depressa que qualquer grama.

Whilst it is yet in its greenness not cut down, it withereth before any grass.

13 E sse é o destino de todo o que se esquece de Deus; assim perece a esperança dos ímpios.

So are the paths of all that forget God; and the profane man's hope shall perish,

14 A quilo em que ele confia é frágil, aquilo em que se apóia é uma teia de aranha.

Whose confidence shall be cut off, and his reliance is a spider's web.

15 E ncosta-se em sua teia, mas ela cede; agarra-se a ela, mas ela não agüenta.

He shall lean upon his house, and it shall not stand; he shall lay hold on it, but it shall not endure.

16 E le é como uma planta bem regada ao brilho do sol, espalhando seus brotos pelo jardim;

He is full of sap before the sun, and his sprout shooteth forth over his garden;

17 e ntrelaça as raízes em torno de um monte de pedras e procura um lugar entre as rochas.

His roots are entwined about the stoneheap; he seeth the place of stones.

18 M as, quando é arrancada do seu lugar, este a rejeita e diz: ‘Nunca a vi’.

If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him: I have not seen thee!

19 E sse é o fim da sua vida, e do solo brotam outras plantas.

Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the dust shall others grow.

20 “ Pois o certo é que Deus não rejeita o íntegro, e não fortalece as mãos dos que fazem o mal.

Behold, God will not cast off a perfect man, neither will he take evil-doers by the hand.

21 M as, quanto a você, ele encherá de riso a sua boca e de brados de alegria os seus lábios.

Whilst he would fill thy mouth with laughing and thy lips with shouting,

22 S eus inimigos se vestirão de vergonha, e as tendas dos ímpios não mais existirão”.

They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked be no more.
