1 I rmãos, vocês mesmos sabem que a visita que lhes fizemos não foi inútil.

For ye know yourselves, brethren, our entering in which to you, that it has not been in vain;

2 A pesar de termos sido maltratados e insultados em Filipos, como vocês sabem, com a ajuda de nosso Deus tivemos coragem de anunciar-lhes o evangelho de Deus, em meio a muita luta.

but, having suffered before and been insulted, even as ye know, in Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the glad tidings of God with much earnest striving.

3 P ois nossa exortação não tem origem no erro nem em motivos impuros, nem temos intenção de enganá-los;

For our exhortation not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile;

4 a o contrário, como homens aprovados por Deus para nos confiar o evangelho, não falamos para agradar pessoas, mas a Deus, que prova o nosso coração.

but even as we have been approved of God to have the glad tidings entrusted to us, so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, who proves our hearts.

5 V ocês bem sabem que a nossa palavra nunca foi de bajulação nem de pretexto para ganância; Deus é testemunha.

For we have not at any time been with flattering discourse, even as ye know, nor with a pretext for covetousness, God witness;

6 N em buscamos reconhecimento humano, quer de vocês quer de outros.

nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have been a charge as Christ's apostles;

7 E mbora, como apóstolos de Cristo, pudéssemos ter sido um peso, fomos bondosos quando estávamos entre vocês, como uma mãe que cuida dos próprios filhos.

but have been gentle in the midst of you, as a nurse would cherish her own children.

8 S entindo, assim, tanta afeição por vocês, decidimos dar-lhes não somente o evangelho de Deus, mas também a nossa própria vida, porque vocês se tornaram muito amados por nós.

Thus, yearning over you, we had found our delight in having imparted to you not only the glad tidings of God, but our own lives also, because ye had become beloved of us.

9 I rmãos, certamente vocês se lembram do nosso trabalho esgotante e da nossa fadiga; trabalhamos noite e dia para não sermos pesados a ninguém, enquanto lhes pregávamos o evangelho de Deus.

For ye remember, brethren, our labour and toil: working night and day, not to be chargeable to any one of you, we have preached to you the glad tidings of God.

10 T anto vocês como Deus são testemunhas de como nos portamos de maneira santa, justa e irrepreensível entre vocês, os que crêem.

Ye witnesses, and God, how piously and righteously and blamelessly we have conducted ourselves with you that believe:

11 P ois vocês sabem que tratamos cada um como um pai trata seus filhos,

as ye know how, as a father his own children, we used to exhort each one of you, and comfort and testify,

12 e xortando, consolando e dando testemunho, para que vocês vivam de maneira digna de Deus, que os chamou para o seu Reino e glória.

that ye should walk worthy of God, who calls you to his own kingdom and glory.

13 T ambém agradecemos a Deus sem cessar o fato de que, ao receberem de nossa parte a palavra de Deus, vocês a aceitaram, não como palavra de homens, mas conforme ela verdadeiramente é, como palavra de Deus, que atua com eficácia em vocês, os que crêem.

And for this cause we also give thanks to God unceasingly that, having received word of report of God by us, ye accepted, not men's word, but, even as it is truly, God's word, which also works in you who believe.

14 P orque vocês, irmãos, tornaram-se imitadores das igrejas de Deus em Cristo Jesus que estão na Judéia. Vocês sofreram da parte dos seus próprios conterrâneos as mesmas coisas que aquelas igrejas sofreram da parte dos judeus,

For ye, brethren, have become imitators of the assemblies of God which are in Judaea in Christ Jesus; for ye also have suffered the same things of your own countrymen as also they of the Jews,

15 q ue mataram o Senhor Jesus e os profetas, e também nos perseguiram. Eles desagradam a Deus e são hostis a todos,

who have both slain the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have driven us out by persecution, and do not please God, and against all men,

16 e sforçando-se para nos impedir que falemos aos gentios, e estes sejam salvos. Dessa forma, continuam acumulando seus pecados. Sobre eles, finalmente, veio a ira. Paulo Deseja Rever os Tessalonicenses

forbidding us to speak to the nations that they may be saved, that they may fill up their sins always: but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

17 N ós, porém, irmãos, privados da companhia de vocês por breve tempo, em pessoa, mas não no coração, esforçamo-nos ainda mais para vê-los pessoalmente, pela saudade que temos de vocês.

But we, brethren, having been bereaved of you and separated for a little moment in person, not in heart, have used more abundant diligence to see your face with much desire;

18 Q uisemos visitá-los. Eu mesmo, Paulo, o quis, e não apenas uma vez, mas duas; Satanás, porém, nos impediu.

wherefore we have desired to come to you, even I Paul, both once and twice, and Satan has hindered us.

19 P ois quem é a nossa esperança, alegria ou coroa em que nos gloriamos perante o Senhor Jesus na sua vinda? Não são vocês?

For what our hope, or joy, or crown of boasting? not ye also before our Lord Jesus at his coming?

20 D e fato, vocês são a nossa glória e a nossa alegria.

for ye are our glory and joy.
