1 O vinho é zombador e a bebida fermentada provoca brigas; não é sábio deixar-se dominar por eles.

Wine is a scorner, strong drink is raging; and whoso erreth thereby is not wise.

The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion: he that provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.

It is an honour for a man to cease from strife; but every fool rusheth into it.

Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; but a faithful man who shall find?

7 O homem justo leva uma vida íntegra; como são felizes os seus filhos!

The righteous walketh in his integrity: blessed are his children after him!

8 Q uando o rei se assenta no trono para julgar, com o olhar esmiúça todo o mal.

A king sitting on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

9 Q uem poderá dizer: “Purifiquei o coração; estou livre do meu pecado”?

Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

10 P esos adulterados e medidas falsificadas são coisas que o Senhor detesta.

Divers weights, divers measures, even both of them are abomination to Jehovah.

11 A té a criança mostra o que é por suas ações; o seu procedimento revelará se ela é pura e justa.

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

12 O s ouvidos que ouvem e os olhos que vêem foram feitos pelo Senhor.

The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.

13 N ão ame o sono, senão você acabará ficando pobre; fique desperto, e terá alimento de sobra.

Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

14 “ Não vale isso! Não vale isso!”, diz o comprador, mas, quando se vai, gaba-se do bom negócio.

Bad! bad! saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

15 M esmo onde há ouro e rubis em grande quantidade, os lábios que transmitem conhecimento são uma rara preciosidade.

There is gold, and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a precious Jewel.

16 T ome-se a veste de quem serve de fiador ao estranho; sirva ela de penhor de quem dá garantia a uma mulher leviana.

Take his garment that is become surety another, and hold him in pledge for strangers.

17 S aborosa é a comida que se obtém com mentiras, mas depois dá areia na boca.

Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

18 O s conselhos são importantes para quem quiser fazer planos, e quem sai à guerra precisa de orientação.

Plans are established by counsel; and with good advice make war.

19 Q uem vive contando casos não guarda segredo; por isso, evite quem fala demais.

He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that openeth his lips.

20 S e alguém amaldiçoar seu pai ou sua mãe, a luz de sua vida se extinguirá na mais profunda escuridão.

Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.

21 A herança que se obtém com ganância no princípio, no final não será abençoada.

An inheritance obtained hastily at the beginning will not be blessed in the end.

22 N ão diga: “Eu o farei pagar pelo mal que me fez!” Espere pelo Senhor, e ele dará a vitória a você.

Say not, I will recompense evil: wait on Jehovah, and he shall save thee.

23 O Senhor detesta pesos adulterados, e balanças falsificadas não o agradam.

Divers weights are an abomination unto Jehovah; and a false balance is not good.

24 O s passos do homem são dirigidos pelo Senhor. Como poderia alguém discernir o seu próprio caminho?

The steps of a man are from Jehovah; and how can a man understand his own way?

25 É uma armadilha consagrar algo precipitadamente, e só pensar nas conseqüências depois que se fez o voto.

It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is hallowed, and after vows to make inquiry.

26 O rei sábio abana os ímpios, e passa sobre eles a roda de debulhar.

A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

27 O espírito do homem é a lâmpada do Senhor, e vasculha cada parte do seu ser.

Man's spirit is the lamp of Jehovah, searching all the inner parts of the belly.

28 A bondade e a fidelidade preservam o rei; por sua bondade ele dá firmeza ao seu trono.

Mercy and truth preserve the king; and he upholdeth his throne by mercy.

29 A beleza dos jovens está na sua força; a glória dos idosos, nos seus cabelos brancos.

The glory of young men is their strength; and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

30 O s golpes e os ferimentos eliminam o mal; os açoites limpam as profundezas do ser.

Wounding stripes purge away evil, and strokes the inner parts of the belly.
