1 E ntão Jó respondeu:

And Job answered and said,

2 “ Até quando vocês continuarão a atormentar-me, e a esmagar-me com palavras?

How long will ye vex my soul, and crush me with words?

3 V ocês já me repreenderam dez vezes; não se envergonham de agredir-me!

These ten times have ye reproached me; ye are not ashamed to stupefy me.

4 S e é verdade que me desviei, meu erro só interessa a mim.

And be it I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

5 S e de fato vocês se exaltam acima de mim e usam contra mim a minha humilhação,

If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and prove against me my reproach,

6 s aibam que foi Deus que me tratou mal e me envolveu em sua rede.

Know now that +God hath overthrown me, and hath surrounded me with his net.

7 “ Se grito: É injustiça! Não obtenho resposta; clamo por socorro, todavia não há justiça.

Behold, I cry out of wrong, and I am not heard; I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

8 E le bloqueou o meu caminho, e não consigo passar; cobriu de trevas as minhas veredas.

He hath hedged up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

9 D espiu-me da minha honra e tirou a coroa de minha cabeça.

He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

10 E le me arrasa por todos os lados enquanto eu não me vou; desarraiga a minha esperança como se arranca uma planta.

He breaketh me down on every side, and I am gone; and my hope hath he torn up as a tree.

11 S ua ira acendeu-se contra mim; ele me vê como inimigo.

And he hath kindled his anger against me, and hath counted me unto him as one of his enemies.

12 S uas tropas avançam poderosamente; cercam-me e acampam ao redor da minha tenda.

His troops have come together and cast up their way against me, and have encamped round about my tent.

13 “ Ele afastou de mim os meus irmãos; até os meus conhecidos estão longe de mim.

He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are quite estranged from me.

14 O s meus parentes me abandonaram e os meus amigos esqueceram-se de mim.

My kinsfolk have failed, and my known friends have forgotten me.

15 O s meus hóspedes e as minhas servas consideram-me estrangeiro; vêem-me como um estranho.

The sojourners in my house and my maids count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight.

16 C hamo o meu servo, mas ele não me responde, ainda que eu lhe implore pessoalmente.

I called my servant, and he answered not; I entreated him with my mouth.

17 M inha mulher acha repugnante o meu hálito; meus próprios irmãos têm nojo de mim.

My breath is strange to my wife, and my entreaties to the children of my womb.

18 A té os meninos zombam de mim e dão risada quando apareço.

Even young children despise me; I rise up, and they speak against me.

19 T odos os meus amigos chegados me detestam; aqueles a quem amo voltaram-se contra mim.

All my intimate friends abhor me, and they whom I loved are turned against me.

20 N ão passo de pele e ossos; escapei só com a pele dos meus dentes.

My bones cleave to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

21 “ Misericórdia, meus amigos! Misericórdia! Pois a mão de Deus me feriu.

Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, ye my friends; for the hand of +God hath touched me.

22 P or que vocês me perseguem como Deus o faz? Nunca irão saciar-se da minha carne?

Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

23 “ Quem dera as minhas palavras fossem registradas! Quem dera fossem escritas num livro,

Oh would that my words were written! oh that they were inscribed in a book!

24 f ossem talhadas a ferro no chumbo, ou gravadas para sempre na rocha!

That with an iron style and lead they were graven in the rock for ever!

25 E u sei que o meu Redentor vive, e que no fim se levantará sobre a terra.

And me, I know that my Redeemer liveth, and the Last, he shall stand upon the earth;

26 E depois que o meu corpo estiver destruído e sem carne, verei a Deus.

And after my skin this shall be destroyed, yet from out of my flesh shall I see +God;

27 E u o verei com os meus próprios olhos; eu mesmo, e não outro! Como anseia no meu peito o coração!

Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another:—my reins are consumed within me.

28 “ Se vocês disserem: ‘Vejamos como vamos persegui-lo, pois a raiz do problema está nele ’,

If ye say, How shall we persecute him? when the root of the matter is found in me,

29 m elhor será que temam a espada, porquanto por meio dela a ira lhes trará castigo, e então vocês saberão que há julgamento ”.

Be ye yourselves afraid of the sword! for the sword is fury against misdeeds, that ye may know there is a judgment.
