1 T odo sumo sacerdote é escolhido dentre os homens e designado para representá-los em questões relacionadas com Deus e apresentar ofertas e sacrifícios pelos pecados.

For every high priest taken from amongst men is established for men in things relating to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;

2 E le é capaz de se compadecer dos que não têm conhecimento e se desviam, visto que ele próprio está sujeito à fraqueza.

being able to exercise forbearance towards the ignorant and erring, since he himself also is clothed with infirmity;

3 P or isso ele precisa oferecer sacrifícios por seus próprios pecados, bem como pelos pecados do povo.

and, on account of this, he ought, even as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

4 N inguém toma esta honra para si mesmo, mas deve ser chamado por Deus, como de fato o foi Arão.

And no one takes the honour to himself but called by God, even as Aaron also.

5 D a mesma forma, Cristo não tomou para si a glória de se tornar sumo sacerdote, mas Deus lhe disse: “Tu és meu Filho; eu hoje te gerei”.

Thus the Christ also has not glorified himself to be made a high priest; but he who had said to him, Thou art my Son, I have to-day begotten thee.

6 E diz noutro lugar: “Tu és sacerdote para sempre, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque”.

Even as also in another he says, Thou a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedec.

7 D urante os seus dias de vida na terra, Jesus ofereceu orações e súplicas, em alta voz e com lágrimas, àquele que o podia salvar da morte, sendo ouvido por causa da sua reverente submissão.

Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up both supplications and entreaties to him who was able to save him out of death, with strong crying and tears; (and having been heard because of his piety;)

8 E mbora sendo Filho, ele aprendeu a obedecer por meio daquilo que sofreu;

though he were Son, he learned obedience from the things which he suffered;

9 e , uma vez aperfeiçoado, tornou-se a fonte da salvação eterna para todos os que lhe obedecem,

and having been perfected, became to all them that obey him, author of eternal salvation;

11 Q uanto a isso, temos muito que dizer, coisas difíceis de explicar, porque vocês se tornaram lentos para aprender.

12 E mbora a esta altura já devessem ser mestres, vocês precisam de alguém que lhes ensine novamente os princípios elementares da palavra de Deus. Estão precisando de leite, e não de alimento sólido!

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have again need that should teach you what the elements of the beginning of the oracles of God, and are become such as have need of milk, not of solid food.

13 Q uem se alimenta de leite ainda é criança, e não tem experiência no ensino da justiça.

For every one that partakes of milk unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe;

14 M as o alimento sólido é para os adultos, os quais, pelo exercício constante, tornaram-se aptos para discernir tanto o bem quanto o mal.

but solid food belongs to full-grown men, who, on account of habit, have their senses exercised for distinguishing both good and evil.
