1 P oi vidi quando l'Agnello aperse il primo dei sette sigilli, e udii uno dei quattro esseri viventi, che diceva come con voce di tuono: «Vieni e vedi».

Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, “Come.”

2 E io vidi, ed ecco un cavallo bianco. E colui che lo cavalcava aveva un arco e gli fu data una corona, ed egli uscí fuori come vincitore e per vincere.

I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. The Second Seal—War

3 Q uando egli aperse il secondo sigillo, udii il secondo essere vivente che diceva: «Vieni e vedi».,

When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come.”

4 A llora uscí fuori un altro cavallo rosso, e a colui che lo cavalcava fu dato di togliere la pace dalla terra, affinché gli uomini si uccidessero gli uni gli altri, e gli fu data una grande spada.

And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him. The Third Seal—Famine

5 Q uando egli aperse il terzo sigillo udii il terzo essere vivente che diceva: «Vieni e vedi». E io vidi, ed ecco un cavallo nero; e colui che lo cavalcava aveva una bilancia in mano.

When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand.

6 E udii una voce in mezzo ai quattro esseri viventi che diceva: «Un chenice di frumento per un denaro, e tre chenici d'orzo per un denaro, e non danneggiare né l'olio né il vino».

And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.” The Fourth Seal—Death

7 Q uando egli aperse il quarto sigillo, udii la voce del quarto essere vivente che diceva: «Vieni e vedi».

When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come.”

8 E io vidi, ed ecco un cavallo giallastro; e colui che lo cavalcava aveva nome la Morte, e dietro ad essa veniva l'Ades. E fu loro data potestà sulla quarta parte della terra, per uccidere con la spada, con la fame, con la morte e mediante le fiere della terra.

I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth. The Fifth Seal—Martyrs

9 Q uando egli aperse il quinto sigillo, io vidi sotto l'altare le anime di coloro che erano stati uccisi a motivo della parola di Dio e a motivo della testimonianza che avevano resa

When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained;

10 e gridarono a gran voce dicendo: «Fino a quando aspetti, o Signore, che sei il Santo e il Verace, a fare giustizia del nostro sangue sopra coloro che abitano sulla terra?».

and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”

11 E a ciascuno di essi fu data una veste bianca e fu loro detto che si riposassero ancora un po' di tempo, finché fosse completato il numero dei loro conservi e dei loro fratelli, che dovevano essere uccisi come loro.

And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also. The Sixth Seal—Terror

12 P oi vidi quando egli aperse il sesto sigillo; ed ecco, si fece un grande terremoto, e il sole divenne nero come un sacco di crine, e la luna divenne come sangue;

I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood;

13 e le stelle del cielo caddero sulla terra, come quando il fico scosso da un gran vento lascia cadere i suoi fichi acerbi.

and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind.

14 Q uindi il cielo si ritirò come una pergamena che si arrotola, ed ogni montagna ed isola fu smossa dal suo luogo.

The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

15 E i re della terra, i grandi, i ricchi, i capitani, i potenti, ogni schiavo ed ogni uomo libero si nascosero nelle spelonche e fra le rocce dei monti,

Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains;

16 e dicevano ai monti e alle rocce: «Cadeteci addosso e nascondeteci dalla faccia di colui che siede sul trono e dall'ira dell'Agnello,

and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;

17 p erché è venuto il gran giorno della sua ira; e chi può resistere?».

for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
