1 ¶ Y Balaam dijo a Balac: Edifícame aquí siete altares, y prepárame aquí siete becerros y siete carneros.

Balaam said to Balak, “Build here seven altars for me, and prepare here seven bulls and seven rams for me.”

2 Y Balac hizo como le dijo Balaam; y ofrecieron Balac y Balaam un becerro y un carnero en cada altar.

Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bull and a ram.

3 Y Balaam dijo a Balac: Ponte junto a tu holocausto, y yo iré; por ventura el SEÑOR me vendrá al encuentro, y cualquiera cosa que me mostrare, te la haré saber. Y así se fue solo.

Balaam said to Balak, “Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me. Whatever he shows me I will tell you.” He went to a bare height.

4 Y se encontró Dios con Balaam, y éste le dijo: Siete altares he ordenado, y en cada altar he ofrecido un becerro y un carnero.

God met Balaam, and he said to him, “I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.”

5 Y el SEÑOR puso palabra en la boca de Balaam, y le dijo: Vuelve a Balac, y has de hablar así.

Yahweh put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, “Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.”

6 Y volvió a él, y he aquí estaba él junto a su holocausto, él y todos los príncipes de Moab.

He returned to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, he, and all the princes of Moab.

7 Y él tomó su parábola, y dijo: De Aram me trajo Balac, Rey de Moab, de los montes del oriente, diciendo: Ven, maldíceme a Jacob; y ven, execra a Israel.

He took up his parable, and said, “From Aram has Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, defy Israel.

8 ¿ Por qué maldeciré yo al que Dios no maldijo? ¿Y por qué he de execrar al que el SEÑOR no ha execrado?

How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? How shall I defy whom Yahweh has not defied?

9 P orque de la cumbre de las peñas lo he visto, y desde los collados lo he mirado; he aquí un pueblo que habitará confiado, y no será contado entre los gentiles.

For from the top of the rocks I see him. From the hills I see him. Behold, it is a people that dwells alone, and shall not be listed among the nations.

10 ¿ Quién contará el polvo de Jacob, o el número de la cuarta parte de Israel? Muera mi alma de la muerte de los rectos, y mi postrimería sea como la suya.

Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous! Let my last end be like his!”

11 E ntonces Balac dijo a Balaam: ¿Qué me has hecho? Te he tomado para que maldigas a mis enemigos, y he aquí has proferido bendiciones.

Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them altogether.”

12 Y él respondió, y dijo: ¿No cuidaré de decir lo que el SEÑOR pusiere en mi boca?

He answered and said, “Must I not take heed to speak that which Yahweh puts in my mouth?”

13 ¶ Y dijo Balac: Te ruego que vengas conmigo a otro lugar desde el cual lo veas; su extremidad solamente has visto, que no lo has visto todo; y desde allí me lo maldecirás.

Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place, where you may see them. You shall see just part of them, and shall not see them all. Curse them from there for me.”

14 Y lo llevó al campo de Zofim, a la cumbre de Pisga, y edificó siete altares, y ofreció un becerro y un carnero en cada altar.

He took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.

15 E ntonces él dijo a Balac: Ponte aquí junto a tu holocausto, y yo iré a encontrar a Dios allí.

He said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet over there.”

16 Y el SEÑOR se encontró con Balaam, y puso palabra en su boca, y le dijo: Vuelve a Balac, y así has de decir.

Yahweh met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, “Return to Balak, and say this.”

17 Y vino a él, y he aquí que él estaba junto a su holocausto, y con él los príncipes de Moab; y le dijo Balac: ¿Qué ha dicho el SEÑOR?

He came to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. Balak said to him, “What has Yahweh spoken?”

18 E ntonces él tomó su parábola, y dijo: Balac, levántate y oye; escucha mis palabras, hijo de Zipor:

He took up his parable, and said, “Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, you son of Zippor.

19 D ios no es hombre, para que mienta; ni hijo de hombre para que se arrepienta. El dijo, ¿y no hará?; habló, ¿y no lo ejecutará?

God is not a man, that he should lie, nor the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good?

20 H e aquí, yo he tomado bendición; y él bendijo, y no la revocaré.

Behold, I have received a command to bless. He has blessed, and I can’t reverse it.

21 N o ha mirado iniquidad en Jacob, ni ha visto rebelión en Israel; el SEÑOR su Dios es con él, y consigna de rey en él.

He has not seen iniquity in Jacob. Neither has he seen perverseness in Israel. Yahweh his God is with him. The shout of a king is among them.

22 D ios los ha sacado de Egipto; tiene fuerzas como de unicornio.

God brings them out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox.

23 P orque en Jacob no hay agüero, ni adivinación en Israel. Como ahora, será dicho de Jacob y de Israel: ¡Lo que ha hecho Dios!

Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob; Neither is there any divination with Israel. Now it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘What has God done!’

24 H e aquí el pueblo, que como león se levantará, y como león se erguirá; no se echará hasta que coma la presa, y beba la sangre de los muertos.

Behold, the people rises up as a lioness. As a lion he lifts himself up. He shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.”

25 E ntonces Balac dijo a Balaam: Ya que no lo maldices, tampoco lo bendigas.

Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.”

26 Y Balaam respondió, y dijo a Balac: ¿No te he dicho que todo lo que el SEÑOR me dijere, aquello tengo que hacer?

But Balaam answered Balak, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘All that Yahweh speaks, that I must do?’”

27 Y dijo Balac a Balaam: Te ruego que vengas, te llevaré a otro lugar; por ventura parecerá recto a los ojos de Dios que desde allí me lo maldigas.

Balak said to Balaam, “Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there.”

28 Y Balac llevó a Balaam a la cumbre de Peor, que mira hacia Jesimón.

Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks down on the desert.

29 E ntonces Balaam dijo a Balac: Edifícame aquí siete altares, y prepárame aquí siete becerros y siete carneros.

Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

30 Y Balac hizo como Balaam le dijo; y ofreció un becerro y un carnero en cada altar.

Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.
