1 Y me dijo el SEÑOR: Tómate un gran volumen, y escribe en él en estilo vulgar Maher-salal-hasbaz. Date prisa al despojo, apresúrate a la presa.

Yahweh said to me, “Take a large tablet, and write on it with a man’s pen, ‘For Maher Shalal Hash Baz’;

2 Y junté conmigo por testigos fieles a Urías, el sacerdote, y a Zacarías hijo de Jeberequías.

and I will take for myself faithful witnesses to testify: Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.”

3 Y me junté con la profetisa, la cual concibió, y dio a luz un hijo. Y me dijo el SEÑOR: Ponle por nombre Maher-salal-hasbaz.

I went to the prophetess, and she conceived, and bore a son. Then Yahweh said to me, “Call his name ‘Maher Shalal Hash Baz.’

4 P orque antes que el niño sepa decir, Padre mío, y Madre mía, será quitada la fuerza de Damasco y los despojos de Samaria, en la presencia del rey de Asiria.

For before the child knows how to say, ‘My father,’ and, ‘My mother,’ the riches of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried away by the king of Assyria.”

5 O tra vez me tornó el SEÑOR a hablar, diciendo:

Yahweh spoke to me yet again, saying,

6 P or cuanto desechó este pueblo las aguas de Siloé, que corren mansamente, y con Rezín y con el hijo de Remalías se regocijó,

“Because this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;

7 h e aquí, por tanto, que el Señor hace subir sobre ellos aguas de río, impetuosas y muchas, es a saber, al rey de Asiria con todo su poder: el cual subirá sobre todos sus ríos, y pasará sobre todas sus riberas;

now therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the mighty flood waters of the River: the king of Assyria and all his glory. It will come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks.

8 y pasando hasta Judá, inundará, y sobrepujará, y llegará hasta la garganta; y extendiendo sus alas, llenará la anchura de tu tierra, oh Emmanuel.

It will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings will fill the width of your land, Immanuel.

9 J untaos, pueblos, y seréis quebrantados; oíd, todos los que sois de lejanas tierras; poneos a punto, y seréis quebrantados; ceñíos, y seréis quebrantados.

Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered!

10 T omad consejo, y será deshecho; proferid palabra, y no será firme, porque Dios está con nosotros.

Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand: for God is with us.”

11 P orque el SEÑOR me dijo de esta manera con mano fuerte, y me enseñó que no caminara por el camino de este pueblo, diciendo:

For Yahweh spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

12 N o llaméis, conjuración, a todas las cosas a que este pueblo llama conjuración; ni temáis su temor, ni le tengáis miedo.

“Don’t say, ‘A conspiracy!’ concerning all about which this people say, ‘A conspiracy!’ neither fear their threats, nor be terrorized.

13 A l SEÑOR de los ejércitos, a él santificad; El sea vuestro temor, y él sea vuestro miedo.

Yahweh of Armies is who you must respect as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread.

14 E ntonces él será por santuario; y a las dos casas de Israel por piedra para tropezar, y por tropezadero para caer; por lazo, y por red al morador de Jerusalén.

He will be a sanctuary, but for both houses of Israel, he will be a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 Y muchos tropezarán entre ellos; y caerán, y serán quebrantados; se enredarán, y serán presos.

Many will stumble over it, fall, be broken, be snared, and be captured.”

16 A ta el testimonio, sella la ley entre mis discípulos.

Wrap up the testimony. Seal the law among my disciples.

17 E speraré, pues, al SEÑOR, el cual escondió su rostro de la casa de Jacob, y a él aguardaré.

I will wait for Yahweh, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

18 H e aquí, yo y los hijos que me dio el SEÑOR, somos por señales y prodigios en Israel, de parte del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, que mora en el Monte de Sion.

Behold, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Yahweh of Armies, who dwells in Mount Zion.

19 Y si os dijeren: Preguntad a los espiritistas y a los adivinos, que susurran hablando, responded: ¿Por ventura no consultará el pueblo a su Dios? ¿ Apelará por los vivos a los muertos?

When they tell you, “Consult with those who have familiar spirits and with the wizards, who chirp and who mutter:” shouldn’t a people consult with their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?

20 ¡ A la ley y al testimonio! Si no dijeren conforme a esto, es porque no les ha amanecido.

Turn to the law and to the testimony! If they don’t speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

21 E ntonces pasarán por esta tierra fatigados y hambrientos. Y acontecerá que teniendo hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios. Y levantando el rostro en alto,

They will pass through it, very distressed and hungry; and it will happen that when they are hungry, they will worry, and curse by their king and by their God. They will turn their faces upward,

22 y mirarán a la tierra, y he aquí tribulación y tinieblas, oscuridad y angustia; y serán sumidos en las tinieblas.

and look to the earth, and see distress, darkness, and the gloom of anguish. They will be driven into thick darkness.
