1 « Il regno dei cieli è simile a un padrone di casa, il quale uscì di mattino presto per assumere dei lavoratori per la sua vigna.

For the kingdom of the heavens is like a householder who went out with the early morn to hire workmen for his vineyard.

2 A ccordatosi con i lavoratori per un denaro al giorno, li mandò nella sua vigna.

And having agreed with the workmen for a denarius the day, he sent them into his vineyard.

3 U scito di nuovo verso l’ora terza, ne vide altri che se ne stavano sulla piazza disoccupati

And having gone out about third hour, he saw others standing in the market-place idle;

4 e disse loro: “Andate anche voi nella vigna e vi darò ciò che è giusto”. Ed essi andarono.

and to them he said, Go also ye into the vineyard, and whatsoever may be just I will give you. And they went their way.

5 P oi, uscito ancora verso la sesta e la nona ora, fece lo stesso.

Again, having gone out about the sixth and ninth hour, he did likewise.

6 U scito verso l’undicesima, ne trovò degli altri che se ne stavano là e disse loro: “Perché ve ne state qui tutto il giorno inoperosi?”

But about the eleventh, having gone out, he found others standing, and says to them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

7 E ssi gli dissero: “Perché nessuno ci ha assunti”. Egli disse loro: “Andate anche voi nella vigna ”.

They say to him, Because no man has hired us. He says to them, Go also ye into the vineyard.

8 F attosi sera, il padrone della vigna disse al suo fattore: “Chiama i lavoratori e da’ loro la paga, cominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi”.

But when the evening was come, the lord of the vineyard says to his steward, Call the workmen and pay their wages, beginning from the last even to the first.

9 A llora vennero quelli dell’undicesima ora e ricevettero un denaro ciascuno.

And when they about the eleventh hour came, they received each a denarius.

10 V enuti i primi, pensavano di ricevere di più; ma ebbero anch’essi un denaro per ciascuno.

And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more, and they received also themselves each a denarius.

11 P erciò, nel riceverlo, mormoravano contro il padrone di casa dicendo:

And on receiving it they murmured against the master of the house,

12 “ Questi ultimi hanno fatto un’ora sola e tu li hai trattati come noi che abbiamo sopportato il peso della giornata e sofferto il caldo”.

saying, These last have worked one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the heat.

13 M a egli, rispondendo a uno di loro, disse: “Amico, non ti faccio alcun torto; non ti sei accordato con me per un denaro?

But he answering said to one of them, friend, I do not wrong thee. Didst thou not agree with me for a denarius?

14 P rendi il tuo e vattene; ma io voglio dare a quest’ultimo quanto a te.

Take what is thine and go. But it is my will to give to this last even as to thee:

15 N on mi è lecito fare del mio ciò che voglio? O vedi tu di mal occhio che io sia buono ?”

is it not lawful for me to do what I will in my own affairs? Is thine eye evil because I am good?

16 C osì gli ultimi saranno primi e i primi, ultimi ». Gesù predice la Passione per la terza volta

Thus shall the last be first, and the first last; for many are called ones, but few chosen ones.

17 P oi Gesù, mentre saliva verso Gerusalemme, prese da parte i dodici {discepoli}; e, strada facendo, disse loro:

And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples with apart in the way, and said to them,

18 « Ecco, noi saliamo a Gerusalemme e il Figlio dell’uomo sarà dato nelle mani dei capi dei sacerdoti e degli scribi; essi lo condanneranno a morte

Behold we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death;

19 e lo consegneranno ai pagani perché sia schernito, flagellato e crocifisso; e il terzo giorno risusciterà». Risposta di Gesù alla domanda della madre di Giacomo e di Giovanni

and they will deliver him up to the nations to mock and to scourge and to crucify, and the third day he shall rise again.

20 A llora la madre dei figli di Zebedeo si avvicinò a Gesù con i suoi figli, prostrandosi per fargli una richiesta.

Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee, with her sons, doing homage, and asking something of him.

21 E d egli le domandò: «Che vuoi?» Ella gli disse: «Di’ che questi miei due figli siedano l’uno alla tua destra e l’altro alla tua sinistra, nel tuo regno».

And he said to her, What wilt thou? She says to him, Speak that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand and one on thy left in thy kingdom.

22 G esù rispose: «Voi non sapete quello che chiedete. Potete voi bere il calice che io sto per bere ?» Essi gli dissero: «Sì, possiamo».

And Jesus answering said, Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink the cup which I am about to drink? They say to him, We are able.

23 E gli disse loro: «Voi certo berrete il mio calice; ma quanto al sedersi alla mia destra e alla sinistra, non sta a me concederlo, ma sarà dato a quelli per cui è stato preparato dal Padre mio».

he says to them, Ye shall drink indeed my cup, but to sit on my right hand and on left, is not mine to give, but to those for whom it is prepared of my Father.

24 I dieci, udito ciò, furono indignati contro i due fratelli.

And the ten, having heard, were indignant about the two brothers.

25 M a Gesù, chiamatili a sé, disse: «Voi sapete che i prìncipi delle nazioni le signoreggiano e che i grandi esercitano autorità su di esse.

But Jesus having called them to, said, Ye know that the rulers of the nations exercise lordship over them, and the great exercise authority over them.

26 M a non dovrà essere così tra di voi: anzi, chiunque vorrà essere grande tra di voi, sarà vostro servitore;

It shall not be thus amongst you, but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant;

27 e chiunque tra di voi vorrà essere primo, sarà vostro servo;

and whosoever will be first among you, let him be your bondman;

28 a ppunto come il Figlio dell’uomo non è venuto per essere servito, ma per servire e per dare la sua vita come prezzo di riscatto per molti». Due ciechi recuperano la vista

as indeed the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.

29 M entre uscivano da Gerico, una gran folla lo seguì.

And as they went out from Jericho a great crowd followed him.

30 E due ciechi, seduti presso la strada, avendo udito che Gesù passava, si misero a gridare: «Abbi pietà di noi, {Signore,} Figlio di Davide!»

And lo, two blind men, sitting by the wayside, having heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out saying, Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David.

31 M a la folla li sgridava, perché tacessero; essi però gridavano più forte: «Abbi pietà di noi, Signore, Figlio di Davide!»

But the crowd rebuked them, that they might be silent. But they cried out the more, saying, Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David.

32 G esù, fermatosi, li chiamò e disse: «Che volete che io vi faccia?»

And Jesus, having stopped, called them and said, What will ye that I shall do to you?

33 E d essi: «Signore, che i nostri occhi si aprano».

They say to him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

34 A llora Gesù, commosso, toccò i loro occhi e in quell’istante recuperarono la vista e lo seguirono.

And Jesus, moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes had sight restored to them, and they followed him.
