1 A scoltate questa parola che il Signore pronuncia contro di voi, o figli d’Israele, contro tutta la famiglia che io ho condotto fuori dal paese d’Egitto:

Hear this word that Jehovah hath spoken against you, children of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

2 « Voi soli ho conosciuto fra tutte le famiglie della terra; perciò vi castigherò per tutte le vostre trasgressioni».

You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore will I visit upon you all your iniquities.

3 D ue uomini camminano forse insieme, se prima non si sono accordati?

Shall two walk together except they be agreed?

4 R uggisce forse il leone nella foresta, se non ha una preda? Il leoncello fa forse udire la sua voce dalla tana, se non ha preso nulla?

Will a lion roar in the forest when he hath no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den if he have taken nothing?

5 C ade forse l’uccello nella rete a terra, se non gli è tesa una trappola? Scatta forse la tagliola dal suolo, se non ha preso qualcosa?

Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth when no gin for him? Will the snare spring up from the earth when nothing at all hath been taken?

6 S quilla forse la tromba in una città, senza che il popolo tremi? Piomba forse una sciagura sopra una città, senza che il Signore ne sia l’autore?

Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil in a city, and Jehovah not have done ?

7 P oiché il Signore, Dio, non fa nulla senza rivelare il suo segreto ai suoi servi, i profeti.

But the Lord Jehovah will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8 I l leone ruggisce, chi non temerà? Il Signore, Dio, parla, chi non profetizzerà? Peccato e castigo d’Israele

The lion hath roared,—who will not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken,—who can but prophesy?

9 P roclamate questo sui palazzi di Asdod e sui palazzi del paese d’Egitto; dite: «Adunatevi sui monti di Samaria, osservate quali grandi disordini ci sono in essa e quali oppressioni avvengono al suo interno!»

Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great uproar in the midst thereof, and the oppressions that are within her:

10 « Essi non sanno fare ciò che è retto», dice il Signore; «accumulano nei loro palazzi i frutti della loro violenza e della rapina».

and they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and plunder in their palaces.

11 P erciò così dice il Signore, Dio: «Ecco, il nemico è tutt’attorno al paese; egli abbatterà la tua forza e i tuoi palazzi saranno saccheggiati».

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An adversary!—even round about the land! And he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be pillaged.

12 C osì dice il Signore: «Come il pastore strappa dalle fauci del leone due zampe o un pezzo d’orecchio, così scamperanno i figli d’Israele che in Samaria stanno ora seduti sull’angolo di un divano o su un letto di damasco.

Thus saith Jehovah: Like as the shepherd rescueth out of the jaw of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be rescued that sit in Samaria in the corner of a couch, and upon the damask of a bed.

13 A scoltate questo e testimoniatelo alla casa di Giacobbe», dice il Signore, Dio, Dio degli eserciti:

Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord Jehovah, the God of hosts,

14 « Il giorno che io punirò Israele per le sue trasgressioni, colpirò anche gli altari di Betel; i corni dell’altare saranno spezzati e cadranno a terra.

that in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, I will also punish the altars of Bethel; and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

15 A bbatterò le case d’inverno e le case d’estate; le case d’avorio saranno distrutte e scompariranno i grandi palazzi», dice il Signore.

And I will smite the winter-house with the summer-house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and many houses shall have an end, saith Jehovah.
