1 A vvenne al tempo di Amrafel re di Scinear, di Arioc re di Ellasar, di Chedorlaomer re di Elam e di Tideal re dei Goim,

And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel the king of Shinar, Arioch the king of El-lasar, Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and Tidal the king of nations,

2 c he essi mossero guerra a Bera re di Sodoma, a Birsa re di Gomorra, a Sineab re di Adma, a Semeber re di Seboim e al re di Bela, cioè Soar.

they made war with Bera the king of Sodom, and with Birsha the king of Gomorrah, Shinab the king of Admah, and Shemeber the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

3 T utti questi ultimi si radunarono nella valle di Siddim, che è il mar Salato.

All these were joined in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.

4 P er dodici anni erano stati soggetti a Chedorlaomer, e al tredicesimo anno si erano ribellati.

Twelve years had they served Chedorlaomer; and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

5 N ell’anno quattordicesimo, Chedorlaomer e i re che erano con lui vennero e sconfissero i Refaim ad Asterot-Carnaim, gli Zuzei ad Am, gli Emei nella pianura di Chiriataim,

And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-Kirjathaim,

6 e i Corei nella loro montagna di Seir fino a El-Paran, che è presso il deserto.

and the Horites on their mount Seir, to El-Paran, which is by the wilderness.

7 P oi tornarono indietro e vennero a En-Mispat, cioè Cades, e sconfissero gli Amalechiti su tutto il loro territorio, e così pure gli Amorei che abitavano ad Asason-Tamar.

And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites that dwelt at Hazazon-Tamar.

8 A llora il re di Sodoma, il re di Gomorra, il re di Adma, il re di Seboim e il re di Bela, cioè Soar, uscirono e si schierarono in battaglia contro quelli, nella valle di Siddim:

And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar, went out, and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim,

9 c ontro Chedorlaomer re di Elam, Tideal re dei Goim, Amrafel re di Scinear e Arioc re di Ellasar: quattro re contro cinque.

with Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and Tidal the king of nations, and Amraphel the king of Shinar, and Arioch the king of Ellasar—four kings with the five.

10 L a valle di Siddim era piena di pozzi di bitume; i re di Sodoma e di Gomorra si diedero alla fuga e vi caddero dentro; quelli che scamparono fuggirono al monte.

And the vale of Siddim was full of pits of asphalt. And the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there: and they that remained fled to the mountain.

11 I vincitori presero tutte le ricchezze di Sodoma e di Gomorra, tutti i loro viveri e se ne andarono.

And they took all the property of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and departed.

12 A ndandosene presero anche Lot, figlio del fratello di Abramo, con i suoi beni: Lot abitava infatti a Sodoma.

And they took Lot and his property, Abram's brother's son, and departed. For he dwelt in Sodom.

13 M a uno degli scampati venne a informare Abramo, l’Ebreo, che abitava alle querce di Mamre, l’Amoreo, fratello di Escol e fratello di Aner, i quali avevano fatto alleanza con Abramo.

And one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. And he dwelt by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol, and the brother of Aner. And these were Abram's allies.

14 A bramo, com’ebbe udito che suo fratello era stato fatto prigioniero, armò trecentodiciotto dei suoi più fidati servi, nati in casa sua, e inseguì i re fino a Dan.

And Abram heard that his brother was taken captive; and he led out his trained, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.

15 D ivisa la sua schiera per assalirli di notte, egli, con i suoi servi, li sconfisse e li inseguì fino a Coba, che è a sinistra di Damasco.

And he divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and smote them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is to the left of Damascus.

16 R ecuperò così tutti i beni e ricondusse pure Lot suo fratello, con i suoi beni, e anche le donne e il popolo. Abramo benedetto da Melchisedec

And he brought back all the property, and brought again his brother Lot and his property, and the women also, and the people.

17 C om’egli se ne tornava, dopo aver sconfitto Chedorlaomer e i re che erano con lui, il re di Sodoma gli andò incontro nella valle di Sciavè, cioè la valle del re.

And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after he had returned from smiting Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, into the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's valley.

18 M elchisedec, re di Salem, fece portare del pane e del vino. Egli era sacerdote del Dio altissimo.

And Melchisedec king of Salem brought out bread and wine. And he was priest of the Most High God.

19 E gli benedisse Abramo, dicendo: «Benedetto sia Abramo dal Dio altissimo, padrone dei cieli e della terra!

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor of heavens and earth.

20 B enedetto sia il Dio altissimo, che t’ha dato in mano i tuoi nemici!» E Abramo gli diede la decima di ogni cosa.

And blessed be the Most High God, who has delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him the tenth of all.

21 I l re di Sodoma disse ad Abramo: «Dammi le persone; i beni prendili per te».

And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the souls, and take the property for thyself.

22 M a Abramo rispose al re di Sodoma: «Ho alzato la mia mano al Signore, il Dio altissimo, padrone dei cieli e della terra,

And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, the Most High God, possessor of heavens and earth,

23 g iurando che non avrei preso neppure un filo, né un laccio di sandalo, di tutto ciò che ti appartiene; perché tu non abbia a dire: “Io ho arricchito Abramo”.

if from a thread even to a sandal-thong, yes, if of all that is thine, I take …; that thou mayest not say, I have made Abram rich;

24 N ulla per me! tranne quello che hanno mangiato i giovani e la parte che spetta agli uomini che sono venuti con me: Aner, Escol e Mamre; essi prendano la loro parte».

save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men that went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, let them take their portion.
