1 I t was in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,
And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel the king of Shinar, Arioch the king of El-lasar, Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and Tidal the king of nations,
2 t hat they made war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
they made war with Bera the king of Sodom, and with Birsha the king of Gomorrah, Shinab the king of Admah, and Shemeber the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
3 A ll these joined together in the valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).
All these were joined in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
4 T hey had been ruled by Chedorlaomer for twelve years. But in the thirteenth year they went against him.
Twelve years had they served Chedorlaomer; and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
5 T hen in the fourteenth year, Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and won a war against the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shavehkiriathaim,
And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-Kirjathaim,
6 a nd the Horites in their Mount Seir as far as El-paran near the desert.
and the Horites on their mount Seir, to El-Paran, which is by the wilderness.
7 T hen they turned around and came to Enmishpat (that is, Kadesh). There they won a war against all the country of the Amalekites and the Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar.
And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites that dwelt at Hazazon-Tamar.
8 T hen the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Bela (that is, Zoar) went out and joined in war against them in the valley of Siddim.
And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar, went out, and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim,
9 T hey fought against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, four kings against five.

10 N ow the Siddim valley was full of deep holes with tar. The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah turned and ran, and some fell there. But the others ran away into the hill country.
And the vale of Siddim was full of pits of asphalt. And the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there: and they that remained fled to the mountain.
11 T hen those who won the war took all that belonged to Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and left.
And they took all the property of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and departed.
12 T hey also took Lot, the son of Abram’s brother, who lived in Sodom, and all that belonged to him, and left.
And they took Lot and his property, Abram's brother's son, and departed. For he dwelt in Sodom.
13 T hen one who had run for his life came and told Abram the Hebrew. Abram was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and Aner, who were friends of Abram.
And one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. And he dwelt by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol, and the brother of Aner. And these were Abram's allies.
14 W hen Abram heard that one of his family had been taken away, he led 318 men who had been born in his house and whom he had taught to fight. They went after them as far as Dan.
And Abram heard that his brother was taken captive; and he led out his trained, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.
15 A bram divided his army against them by night, he and his servants. They won the war against them, and followed them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.

17 A fter Abram returned from destroying Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s valley).
And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after he had returned from smiting Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, into the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's valley.
18 M elchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was a religious leader of God Most High.
And Melchisedec king of Salem brought out bread and wine. And he was priest of the Most High God.
19 A nd Melchizedek honored Abram and said, “May good come to Abram from God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth.
And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor of heavens and earth.
20 H onor and thanks be to God Most High, Who has given into your hand those who fought against you.” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all he had taken.
And blessed be the Most High God, who has delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him the tenth of all.
21 A nd the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, but take the riches and food for yourself.”
And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the souls, and take the property for thyself.
22 B ut Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have promised the Lord God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth,
And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, the Most High God, possessor of heavens and earth,
23 t hat I will not take a piece of string or piece of leather or anything that is yours. Or else you might say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’
if from a thread even to a sandal-thong, yes, if of all that is thine, I take …; that thou mayest not say, I have made Abram rich;
24 I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me. Let Aner, Eshcol and Mamre take their share.”
