1 W hen the noise had come to an end, Paul called the followers to him. He spoke words of comfort and then said good-bye. He left to go to the country of Macedonia.

But after the tumult had ceased, Paul having called the disciples to and embraced, went away to go to Macedonia.

2 A s he went through those parts of the country, he spoke words of comfort and help to the Christians. Then he went on to the country of Greece.

And having passed through those parts, and having exhorted them with much discourse, he came to Greece.

3 H e stayed there three months. As he was about to get on a ship for the country of Syria, he learned that the Jews had made a plan to take him. He changed his plans and went back through Macedonia.

And having spent three months, a treacherous plot against him having been set on foot by the Jews, as he was going to sail to Syria, resolution was adopted of returning through Macedonia.

4 S ome men were going along with him. They were Sopater of the city of Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus of the city of Thessalonica, Gaius of the city of Derbe, and Timothy and Tychicus and Trophimus of the countries of Asia.

And there accompanied him as far as Asia, Sopater of Pyrrhus, a Berean; and of Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus, and Gaius and Timotheus of Derbe, and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

5 T hey went on to the city of Troas and waited there for us.

These going before waited for us in Troas;

6 A fter the supper of bread without yeast we got on a ship in the city of Philippi. We met these men at Troas. It took five days to get there and we stayed one week. Eutychus Falls from a Building While Paul Preaches

but we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and we came to them to Troas in five days, where we spent seven days.

7 O n the first day of the week we met together to eat the Lord’s supper. Paul talked to them. He thought he would leave the next day, so he kept on talking until twelve o’clock at night.

And the first day of the week, we being assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed to them, about to depart on the morrow. And he prolonged the discourse till midnight.

8 T here were many lights in the room on the third floor where we had our meeting.

And there were many lights in the upper room where we were assembled.

9 A young man named Eutychus sat in the window. As Paul kept on preaching, this man started to go to sleep. At last he went to sleep. He fell from the third floor to the ground and was picked up dead.

And a certain youth, by name Eutychus, sitting at the window-opening, overpowered by deep sleep, while Paul discoursed very much at length, having been overpowered by the sleep, fell from the third story down to the bottom, and was taken up dead.

10 P aul went down and stood over him. Then he took him in his arms and said, “Do not be worried. He is alive!”

But Paul descending fell upon him, and enfolding, said, Be not troubled, for his life is in him.

11 P aul went up again to the meeting and ate with them. He talked with them until the sun came up. Then he left.

And having gone up, and having broken the bread, and eaten, and having long spoken until daybreak, so he went away.

12 T hey were happy they could take the young man home alive.

And they brought the boy alive, and were no little comforted.

13 W e went on ahead by ship to the city of Assos. There we were to pick up Paul. He had planned it that way. He wanted to walk by land that far.

And we, having gone before on board ship, sailed off to Assos, going to take in Paul there; for so he had directed, he himself being about to go on foot.

14 W e got to Assos and met him there. We picked him up and went on to the city of Mitylene.

And when he met with us at Assos, having taken him on board, we came to Mitylene;

15 T he next day we went by ship to a place beside the island of Chios. The next day we crossed over to the island of Samos. Then the next day we came to the city of Miletus.

and having sailed thence, on the morrow arrived opposite Chios, and the next day put in at Samos; and having stayed at Trogyllium, the next day we came to Miletus:

16 P aul planned to pass by the city of Ephesus so he would not lose more time in Asia. He wanted to be in Jerusalem if he could be on the day to remember how the Holy Spirit came on the church. Paul Meets with the Leaders of the Church of Ephesus

for Paul thought it desirable to sail by Ephesus, so that he might not be made to spend time in Asia; for he hastened, if it was possible for him, to be the day of Pentecost at Jerusalem.

17 F rom Miletus he sent word to Ephesus. He asked the leaders of the church to come to him.

But from Miletus having sent to Ephesus, he called over the elders of the assembly.

18 W hen they got there, he said to them, “From the first day that I came to Asia you have seen what my life has been like.

And when they were come to him, he said to them, Ye know how I was with you all the time from the first day that I arrived in Asia,

19 I worked for the Lord without pride. Because of the trouble the Jews gave me, I have had many tears.

serving the Lord with all lowliness, and tears, and temptations, which happened to me through the plots of the Jews;

20 I always told you everything that would be a help to you. I taught you in open meetings and from house to house.

how I held back nothing of what is profitable, so as not to announce to you, and to teach you publicly and in every house,

21 I preached to the Jews and to the Greeks. I told them to turn from their sin to God and to put their trust in our Lord Jesus Christ.

testifying to both Jews and Greeks repentance towards God, and faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ.

22 As you see, I am on my way to Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit makes me go. I do not know what will happen to me there.

And now, behold, bound in my spirit I go to Jerusalem, not knowing what things shall happen to me in it;

23 B ut in every city I have been, the Holy Spirit tells me that trouble and chains will be waiting for me there.

only that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and tribulations await me.

24 B ut I am not worried about this. I do not think of my life as worth much, but I do want to finish the work the Lord Jesus gave me to do. My work is to preach the Good News of God’s loving-favor.

But I make no account of life dear to myself, so that I finish my course, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the glad tidings of the grace of God.

25 All of you have heard me preach the Good News. I am sure that none of you will ever see my face again.

And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom, shall see my face no more.

26 I tell you this day that I am clean and free from the blood of all men.

Wherefore I witness to you this day, that I am clean from the blood of all,

27 I told you all the truth about God.

for I have not shrunk from announcing to you all the counsel of God.

28 K eep a careful watch over yourselves and over the church. The Holy Spirit has made you its leaders. Feed and care for the church of God. He bought it with His own blood.

Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, wherein the Holy Spirit has set you as overseers, to shepherd the assembly of God, which he has purchased with the blood of his own.

29 Yes, I know that when I am gone, hungry wolves will come in among you. They will try to destroy the church.

I know that there will come in amongst you after my departure grievous wolves, not sparing the flock;

30 A lso men from your own group will begin to teach things that are not true. They will get men to follow them.

and from among your own selves shall rise up men speaking perverted things to draw away the disciples after them.

31 I say again, keep watching! Remember that for three years I taught everyone of you night and day, even with tears.

Wherefore watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I ceased not admonishing each one with tears.

32 And now, my brothers, I give you over to God and to the word of His love. It is able to make you strong and to give you what you are to have, along with all those who are set apart for God.

And now I commit you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build up and give an inheritance among all the sanctified.

33 I have not tried to get anyone’s money or clothes.

I have coveted silver or gold or clothing of no one.

34 Y ou all know that these hands worked for what I needed and for what those with me needed.

Yourselves know that these hands have ministered to my wants, and to those who were with me.

35 I n every way I showed you that by working hard like this we can help those who are weak. We must remember what the Lord Jesus said, ‘We are more happy when we give than when we receive.’ ”

I have shewed you all things, that thus labouring ought to come in aid of the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

36 A s he finished talking, he got down on his knees and prayed with them all.

And having said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all.

37 T hey cried and put their arms around Paul and kissed him.

And they all wept sore; and falling upon the neck of Paul they ardently kissed him,

38 W hat made them sad most of all was he said that they would never see his face again. Then they went with him to the ship.

specially pained by the word which he had said, that they would no more see his face. And they went down with him to the ship.
