Psalm 9 ~ Psalm 9

picture

1 I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart. I will tell of all the great things You have done.

I will praise Jehovah with my whole heart; I will recount all thy marvellous works.

2 I will be glad and full of joy because of You. I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

I will be glad and rejoice in thee; I will sing forth thy name, O Most High.

3 W hen those who hate me turn away, they fall and are lost from You.

When mine enemies turned back, they stumbled and perished at thy presence:

4 F or You have stood by my right actions. You sit on Your throne, and are right in how You judge.

For thou hast maintained my right and my cause. Thou sittest on the throne, judging righteously.

5 Y ou have spoken sharp words to the nations and have destroyed the sinful. You have thrown out their name forever and ever.

Thou hast rebuked the nations, thou hast destroyed the wicked; thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

6 T hose who fight against You are finished forever. You have destroyed their cities. They will be remembered no more.

O enemy! destructions are ended for ever.—Thou hast also destroyed cities, even the remembrance of them hath perished.

7 B ut the Lord lives forever. He has set up His throne to say who is guilty or not.

But Jehovah sitteth for ever; he hath ordained his throne for judgment.

8 H e will punish the world by what is right. He will be fair as He rules the people.

And it is he that will judge the world with righteousness; he shall execute judgment upon the peoples with equity.

9 T he Lord also keeps safe those who suffer. He is a safe place in times of trouble.

And Jehovah will be a refuge to the oppressed one, a refuge in times of distress.

10 T hose who know Your name will put their trust in You. For You, O Lord, have never left alone those who look for You.

And they that know thy name will confide in thee; for thou, Jehovah, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

11 S ing praises to the Lord, Who lives in Zion! Tell all the nations what He has done!

Sing psalms to Jehovah who dwelleth in Zion; tell among the peoples his doings.

12 F or He Who punishes for the blood of another remembers them. He does not forget the cry of those who suffer.

For when he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them; the cry of the afflicted ones hath he not forgotten.

13 H ave pity on me, O Lord! See how I suffer from those who hate me, You Who have lifted me up from the gates of death,

Be gracious unto me, O Jehovah; consider mine affliction from them that hate me, lifting me up from the gates of death:

14 t hat I may tell of all Your praises in the gates of the people of Zion. There I will be full of joy because You save.

That I may declare all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will be joyful in thy salvation.

15 T he nations have fallen into the hole they have dug. Their own feet have been caught in the net they have hidden.

The nations are sunk down in the pit they made; in the net that they hid is their own foot taken.

16 T he Lord has made Himself known. He is fair in His Law. The sinful trap themselves by the work of their own hands.

Jehovah is known the judgment he hath executed: the wicked is ensnared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

17 T he sinful, all the nations that forget God, will be turned back into the grave.

The wicked shall be turned into Sheol, all the nations that forget God.

18 B ut those in need will not always be forgotten. The hope of the poor will not be lost forever.

For the needy one shall not be forgotten alway; the hope of the meek shall not perish for ever.

19 R ise up, O Lord! Do not let man win the fight against You. Let the nations come to You and be judged.

Arise, Jehovah; let not man prevail: let the nations be judged in thy sight.

20 M ake them afraid, O Lord. Let the nations know they are only men.

Put them in fear, Jehovah: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.
