1 D avide, vecchio e sazio di giorni, stabilì suo figlio Salomone come re d’Israele.

And David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

2 R adunò tutti i capi d’Israele, i sacerdoti e i Leviti.

And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

3 F u fatto un censimento dei Leviti dall’età di trent’anni in su; e, contati uno per uno, uomo per uomo, il loro numero risultò di trentottomila.

And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward; and their number, by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.

4 D avide disse: «Ventiquattromila di questi siano addetti a dirigere l’opera della casa del Signore, seimila siano magistrati e giudici,

Of these, twenty-four thousand were to preside over the work of the house of Jehovah; and six thousand were officers and judges;

5 q uattromila siano portinai e quattromila celebrino il Signore con gli strumenti che io ho fatti per celebrarlo».

and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which I made, to praise.

6 D avide li divise in classi, secondo i figli di Levi: Gherson, Cheat e Merari.

And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 D ei Ghersoniti: Laedan e Simei.

Of the Gershonites: Laadan and Shimei.

8 I figli di Laedan: il capo Iechiel, Zetam e Ioel; tre.

The sons of Laadan: the head was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

9 F igli di Simei: Selomit, Aziel e Aran; tre. Questi sono i capi delle famiglie patriarcali di Laedan.

The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief fathers of Laadan.

10 F igli di Simei: Iaat, Zina, Ieus e Beria. Questi sono i quattro figli di Simei.

And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Ziza, and Jeush, and Beriah. These were the four sons of Shimei.

11 I aat era il capo; Zina, il secondo; Ieus e Beria non ebbero molti figli e, nel censimento, formarono una sola casa patriarcale.

And Jahath was the head, and Ziza the second; and Jeush and Beriah had not many sons: as father's house, therefore, they were reckoned as one.

12 F igli di Cheat: Amram, Isear, Ebron, Uzziel; quattro.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Jizhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

13 F igli di Amram: Aaronne e Mosè. Aaronne fu riservato per essere consacrato come santissimo, egli, con i suoi figli, per sempre, per offrire i profumi davanti al Signore, per servirlo e per pronunciare per sempre la benedizione nel nome di lui.

The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was separated, that he should be hallowed as most holy, he and his sons for ever, to offer before Jehovah, to do service to him, and to bless in his name for ever.

14 Q uanto a Mosè, l’uomo di Dio, i suoi figli furono contati nella tribù di Levi.

—And as to Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.

15 F igli di Mosè: Ghersom ed Eliezer.

The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

16 F iglio di Ghersom: Sebuel, il capo.

The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the head.

17 I l figlio di Eliezer fu Reabia, il capo. Eliezer non ebbe altri figli; ma i figli di Reabia furono numerosissimi.

And the sons of Eliezer: Rehabiah the head; and Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

18 F iglio di Isear: Selomit, il capo.

—The sons of Jizhar: Shelomith the head.

19 F igli di Ebron: Ieriia, il capo; Amaria, il secondo; Iaaziel, il terzo, e Iecameam, il quarto.

The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the head, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 F igli di Uzziel: Mica, il capo, e Isia, il secondo.

The sons of Uzziel: Micah the head, and Jishijah the second.

21 F igli di Merari: Mali e Musi. Figli di Mali: Eleazar e Chis.

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

22 E leazar morì e non ebbe figli, ma solo delle figlie; e le sposarono i figli di Chis, loro parenti.

And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters; and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.

23 F igli di Musi: Mali, Eder e Ieremot; tre.

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 Q uesti sono i figli di Levi secondo le loro case patriarcali, i capi famiglia secondo il censimento, fatto contando i nomi, uno per uno. Essi erano addetti a fare il servizio della casa del Signore, dall’età di vent’anni in su.

These were the sons of Levi according to their fathers' houses, the chief fathers, as they were reckoned, by number of names by their polls, who did the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, from twenty years old and upward.

25 I nfatti Davide aveva detto: «Il Signore, Dio d’Israele, ha dato riposo al suo popolo, ed esso è venuto a stabilirsi a Gerusalemme per sempre;

For David said, Jehovah the God of Israel has given rest to his people, and he will dwell in Jerusalem for ever;

26 e anche i Leviti non avranno più bisogno di portare il tabernacolo e tutti gli utensili per il suo servizio».

and the Levites also have no more to carry the tabernacle, nor any of its vessels for its service.

27 F u secondo le ultime disposizioni di Davide che il censimento dei figli di Levi si fece dai vent’anni in su.

For by the last words of David was this,—the numbering of the sons of Levi from twenty years old and upward.

28 P osti presso i figli di Aaronne per il servizio della casa del Signore, essi avevano l’incarico dei cortili, delle camere, della purificazione di tutte le cose sacre, dell’opera relativa al servizio della casa di Dio,

For their place was by the side of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, over the courts, and over the chambers, and over the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

29 d ei pani della presentazione, del fior di farina per le offerte, delle focacce non lievitate, delle cose da cuocere sulla piastra, di quelle da friggere, e di tutte le misure di capacità e di lunghezza.

and for the loaves to be set in rows, and for the fine flour for the oblation, and for the unleavened cakes, and for the pan, and for that which is saturated, and for all measure of capacity and size;

30 D ovevano presentarsi ogni mattina e ogni sera per lodare e celebrare il Signore,

and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise at even;

31 e per offrire del continuo davanti al Signore tutti gli olocausti, secondo il numero prescritto loro dalla legge, per i sabati, per i noviluni e per le feste solenni;

and for all burnt-offerings offered up to Jehovah on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the ordinance concerning them, continually, before Jehovah;

32 e dovevano prendersi cura della tenda di convegno, del santuario e stare agli ordini dei figli di Aaronne, loro fratelli, per il servizio della casa del Signore.

and they kept the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of Jehovah.
