1 S almo di Asaf. O Dio, le nazioni sono entrate nella tua eredità, hanno profanato il tuo santo tempio, hanno ridotto Gerusalemme in un mucchio di rovine;

O God, the nations are come into thine inheritance: thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

2 h anno dato i cadaveri dei tuoi servi in pasto agli uccelli del cielo, la carne dei tuoi santi alle bestie della campagna.

The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowl of the heavens, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth:

3 H anno sparso il loro sangue come acqua intorno a Gerusalemme e non c’è stato alcuno che li seppellisse.

Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury.

4 N oi siamo diventati oggetto di derisione per i nostri vicini, oggetto di scherno e di derisione per quelli che ci circondano.

We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision to them that are round about us.

5 F ino a quando, Signore, sarai tu adirato? La tua gelosia arderà come fuoco per sempre?

How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou be angry for ever? Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

6 R iversa l’ira tua sulle nazioni che non ti conoscono e sui regni che non invocano il tuo nome,

Pour out thy fury upon the nations that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that call not upon thy name:

7 p oiché hanno divorato Giacobbe e hanno devastato la sua dimora.

For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his habitation.

8 N on ricordare a nostro danno le colpe dei nostri antenati; affrèttati, ci vengano incontro le tue compassioni, poiché siamo molto afflitti.

Remember not against us the iniquities of forefathers; let thy tender mercies speedily come to meet us: for we are brought very low.

9 S occorrici, o Dio della nostra salvezza, per la gloria del tuo nome; liberaci, e perdona i nostri peccati, per amore del tuo nome.

Help us, O God of our salvation, because of the glory of thy name; and deliver us, and forgive our sins, for thy name's sake.

10 P erché direbbero i popoli: «Dov’è il loro Dio?» Si conosca tra le nazioni, sotto i nostri occhi, la vendetta per il sangue dei tuoi servi, che è stato sparso.

Wherefore should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the blood of thy servants that is shed be known among the nations in our sight.

11 G iunga fino a te il gemito dei prigionieri; secondo la potenza del tuo braccio, salva quelli che sono condannati a morte.

Let the groaning of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thine arm, preserve those that are appointed to die;

12 R estituisci ai nostri vicini sette volte tanto l’oltraggio che ti hanno fatto, o Signore!

And render unto our neighbours, sevenfold into their bosom, their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.

13 E noi, tuo popolo e gregge del tuo pascolo, ti celebreremo in eterno, proclameremo la tua lode per ogni età.

And we, thy people and the sheep of thy pasture, will give thanks unto thee for ever; we will shew forth thy praise from generation to generation.
