1 P erciò, fratelli miei cari e desideratissimi, allegrezza e corona mia, state in questa maniera saldi nel Signore, o diletti! Raccomandazioni varie

So that, my brethren, beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, thus stand fast in Lord, beloved.

2 E sorto Evodia ed esorto Sintìche a essere concordi nel Signore.

I exhort Euodia, and exhort Syntyche, to be of the same mind in Lord;

3 S ì, prego pure te, mio fedele collaboratore, vieni in aiuto a queste donne, che hanno lottato per il vangelo insieme a me, a Clemente e agli altri miei collaboratori i cui nomi sono nel libro della vita.

yea, I ask thee also, true yokefellow, assist them, who have contended along with me in the glad tidings, with Clement also, and my other fellow-labourers, whose names in book of life.

4 R allegratevi sempre nel Signore. Ripeto: rallegratevi.

Rejoice in Lord always: again I will say, Rejoice.

5 L a vostra mansuetudine sia nota a tutti gli uomini. Il Signore è vicino.

Let your gentleness be known of all men. The Lord near.

6 N on angustiatevi di nulla, ma in ogni cosa fate conoscere le vostre richieste a Dio in preghiere e suppliche, accompagnate da ringraziamenti.

Be careful about nothing; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

7 E la pace di Dio, che supera ogni intelligenza, custodirà i vostri cuori e i vostri pensieri in Cristo Gesù.

and the peace of God, which surpasses every understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts by Christ Jesus.

8 Q uindi, fratelli, tutte le cose vere, tutte le cose onorevoli, tutte le cose giuste, tutte le cose pure, tutte le cose amabili, tutte le cose di buona fama, quelle in cui è qualche virtù e qualche lode, siano oggetto dei vostri pensieri.

For the rest, brethren, whatsoever things true, whatsoever things noble, whatsoever things just, whatsoever things pure, whatsoever things amiable, whatsoever things of good report; if any virtue and if any praise, think on these things.

9 L e cose che avete imparate, ricevute, udite da me e viste in me, fatele; e il Dio della pace sarà con voi. Liberalità dei Filippesi e disinteresse di Paolo

What ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, these things do; and the God of peace shall be with you.

10 H o avuto una grande gioia nel Signore, perché finalmente avete rinnovato le vostre cure per me; ci pensavate sì, ma vi mancava l’opportunità.

But I rejoiced in Lord greatly, that now however at length ye have revived your thinking of me, though surely ye did also think, but lacked opportunity.

11 N on lo dico perché mi trovi nel bisogno, poiché io ho imparato ad accontentarmi dello stato in cui mi trovo.

Not that I speak as regards privation, for as to me I have learnt in those circumstances in which I am, to be satisfied in myself.

12 S o vivere nella povertà e anche nell’abbondanza; in tutto e per tutto ho imparato a essere saziato e ad aver fame; a essere nell’abbondanza e nell’indigenza.

I know both how to be abased and I know how to abound. In everything and in all things I am initiated both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer privation.

13 I o posso ogni cosa in colui che mi fortifica.

I have strength for all things in him that gives me power.

14 T uttavia avete fatto bene a prendere parte alla mia afflizione.

But ye have done well in taking part in my affliction.

15 A nche voi sapete, Filippesi, che quando cominciai a predicare il vangelo, dopo aver lasciato la Macedonia, nessuna chiesa mi fece parte di nulla per quanto concerne il dare e l’avere, se non voi soli;

And know also ye, O Philippians, that in beginning of the gospel, when I came out of Macedonia, no assembly communicated to me in way of giving and receiving save ye alone;

16 p erché anche a Tessalonica mi avete mandato, una prima e poi una seconda volta, ciò che mi occorreva.

for also in Thessalonica once and even twice ye sent to me for my need.

17 N on lo dico perché io ricerchi i doni; ricerco piuttosto il frutto che abbondi a vostro conto.

Not that I seek gift, but I seek fruit abounding to your account.

18 O ra ho ricevuto ogni cosa e sono nell’abbondanza. Sono ricolmo di beni, avendo ricevuto da Epafròdito quello che mi avete mandato e che è un profumo di odore soave, un sacrificio accetto e gradito a Dio.

But I have all things in full supply and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things from you, an odour of sweet savour, an acceptable sacrifice, agreeable to God.

19 I l mio Dio provvederà a ogni vostro bisogno, secondo la sua gloriosa ricchezza, in Cristo Gesù.

But my God shall abundantly supply all your need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

20 A l Dio e Padre nostro sia la gloria nei secoli dei secoli. Amen. Saluti

But to our God and Father glory to the ages of ages. Amen.

21 S alutate ognuno dei santi in Cristo Gesù.

Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who with me salute you.

22 I fratelli che sono con me vi salutano. Tutti i santi vi salutano e specialmente quelli della casa di Cesare.

All the saints salute you, and specially those of the household of Caesar.

23 L a grazia del Signore Gesù Cristo sia con lo spirito vostro.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ with your spirit. Amen.
