1 M anasse aveva dodici anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò cinquantacinque anni a Gerusalemme.

Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.

2 E gli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, seguendo le abominazioni delle nazioni che il Signore aveva scacciate davanti ai figli d’Israele.

And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, like the abominations of the nations that Jehovah had dispossessed from before the children of Israel.

3 R icostruì gli alti luoghi che Ezechia, suo padre, aveva demoliti, eresse altari ai Baal, fece degli idoli di Astarte, adorò tutto l’esercito del cielo e lo servì.

And he built again the high places that Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshipped all the host of heaven and served them.

4 C ostruì pure altari ad altri dèi nella casa del Signore, riguardo alla quale il Signore aveva detto: «In Gerusalemme sarà per sempre il mio nome!»

And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.

5 C ostruì altari a tutto l’esercito del cielo nei due cortili della casa del Signore.

And he built altars to all the host of heaven in both courts of the house of Jehovah.

6 F ece passare i suoi figli per il fuoco nella valle di Ben-Innom; si diede alla magia, agli incantesimi, alla stregoneria e istituì degli evocatori di spiriti e degli indovini; si abbandonò completamente a fare ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, provocando la sua ira.

He also caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom; and he used magic and divination and sorcery, and appointed necromancers and soothsayers: he wrought evil beyond measure in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.

7 M ise l’immagine scolpita dell’idolo, che aveva fatto, nella casa di Dio, riguardo alla quale Dio aveva detto a Davide e a suo figlio Salomone: «In questa casa e a Gerusalemme, che io ho scelta fra tutte le tribù d’Israele, porrò il mio nome per sempre.

And he set the graven image of the idol that he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever;

8 E farò in modo che Israele non muova più il piede dal paese che ho assegnato ai vostri padri, purché essi abbiano cura di mettere in pratica tutto quello che ho loro comandato, cioè tutta la legge, i precetti e le prescrizioni, dati per mezzo di Mosè.

neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land that I have appointed to your fathers; if they will only take heed to do all that I commanded them through Moses, according to all the law and the statutes and the ordinances.

9 M a Manasse indusse Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme a sviarsi e a far peggio delle nazioni che il Signore aveva distrutte davanti ai figli d’Israele.

And Manasseh led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem astray, to do more evil than the nations that Jehovah had destroyed from before the children of Israel.

10 I l Signore parlò a Manasse e al suo popolo, ma essi non ne tennero conto.

And Jehovah spoke to Manasseh and to his people; but they did not hearken.

11 A llora il Signore fece venire contro di loro i capi dell’esercito del re d’Assiria, che catturarono Manasse con uncini; e, legatolo con una doppia catena di bronzo, lo portarono a Babilonia.

And Jehovah brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with fetters, and bound him with chains of brass, and carried him to Babylon.

12 E quando egli fu angosciato, implorò il Signore, suo Dio, e si umiliò profondamente davanti al Dio dei suoi padri.

And when he was in affliction, he besought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

13 A lui rivolse le sue preghiere, e Dio si arrese ad esse, esaudì le sue suppliche e lo ricondusse a Gerusalemme nel suo regno. Allora Manasse riconobbe che il Signore è Dio.

and prayed to him. And he was intreated of him and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah, he was God.

14 D opo questo, Manasse costruì fuori della città di Davide, a occidente, verso Ghion nella valle, un muro che si prolungava fino alla porta dei Pesci; lo fece girare attorno a Ofel e lo tirò su a grande altezza; e pose dei capi militari in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda.

And after this he built the outer wall of the city of David, on the west, toward Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance of the fish-gate, and carried it round Ophel, and raised it up a very great height; and he put captains of war in all the fortified cities of Judah.

15 T olse dalla casa del Signore gli dèi stranieri e l’idolo, abbatté tutti gli altari che aveva costruiti sul monte della casa del Signore e a Gerusalemme, e gettò tutto fuori dalla città.

And he removed the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of Jehovah, and all the altars that he had built on the mount of the house of Jehovah and in Jerusalem, and cast out of the city.

16 P oi ristabilì l’altare del Signore e vi offrì sopra dei sacrifici di riconoscenza e di ringraziamento, e ordinò a Giuda che servisse il Signore, Dio d’Israele.

And he reinstated the altar of Jehovah, and sacrificed on it peace-offerings and thank-offerings, and commanded Judah to serve Jehovah the God of Israel.

17 T uttavia il popolo continuava a offrire sacrifici sugli alti luoghi; però soltanto al Signore, al suo Dio.

Nevertheless, the people sacrificed still on the high places, although to Jehovah their God only.

18 I l rimanente delle azioni di Manasse, la preghiera che rivolse al suo Dio e le parole che i veggenti gli rivolsero nel nome del Signore, Dio d’Israele, sono scritte nella storia dei re d’Israele.

And the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of Jehovah the God of Israel, behold, they in the acts of the kings of Israel.

19 E la sua preghiera, e come Dio si arrese ad essa, tutti i suoi peccati e tutte le sue infedeltà, le località dove costruì gli alti luoghi e pose degli idoli di Astarte e delle immagini scolpite, prima che si fosse umiliato, sono cose scritte nel libro di Ozai.

And his prayer, and was intreated of him, and all his sin and his unfaithfulness, and the places in which he built high places, and set up Asherahs and graven images, before he was humbled, behold, they are written among the words of Hozai.

20 P oi Manasse si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto in casa sua. E Amon, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto. Amon, re di Giuda

And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

21 A mon aveva ventidue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò due anni a Gerusalemme.

Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.

22 E gli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, come aveva fatto Manasse suo padre: offriva sacrifici a tutte le immagini scolpite fatte da Manasse suo padre e le serviva.

And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, as Manasseh his father had done; and Amon sacrificed to all the graven images that Manasseh his father had made, and served them.

23 E gli non si umiliò davanti al Signore, come si era umiliato Manasse suo padre, anzi, Amon si rese sempre più colpevole.

And he did not humble himself before Jehovah, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; for he, Amon, multiplied trespass.

24 E i suoi servitori tramarono una congiura contro di lui e lo uccisero in casa sua.

And his servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.

25 M a il popolo del paese mise a morte tutti quelli che avevano congiurato contro il re Amon e fece re, al posto di lui, Giosia suo figlio.

But the people of the land smote all them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.
