Sing ye joyously unto God our strength, shout aloud unto the God of Jacob;

Raise a song, and sound the tambour, the pleasant harp with the lute.

3 S uonate la tromba alla nuova luna, alla luna piena, al giorno della nostra festa.

Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the set time, on our feast day:

4 P oiché questo è uno statuto per Israele, una legge del Dio di Giacobbe.

For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob;

5 E gli lo stabilì come una testimonianza di Giuseppe, quando uscì contro il paese d’Egitto. Io udii allora un linguaggio che non conoscevo:

He ordained it in Joseph a testimony, when he went forth over the land of Egypt, I heard a language that I knew not.

6 « O Israele, io ho sottratto le tue spalle ai pesi; le tue mani hanno lasciato le ceste.

I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.

7 N ell’angoscia gridasti a me e io ti liberai; ti risposi nascosto in mezzo ai tuoni, ti misi alla prova presso le acque di Meriba.

Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

8 A scolta, popolo mio, e io ti ammonirò; o Israele, se tu mi ascoltassi!

Hear, my people, and I will testify unto thee; O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto me!

9 N on ci sia in mezzo a te nessun dio straniero e non adorare un dio estraneo.

There shall no strange god be in thee, neither shalt thou worship any foreign god.

10 I o sono il Signore, il Dio tuo, che ti fece risalire dal paese d’Egitto; apri la tua bocca, e io la riempirò.

I am Jehovah thy God, that brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 M a il mio popolo non ha ascoltato la mia voce, Israele non mi ha ubbidito.

But my people hearkened not to my voice, and Israel would none of me.

12 P erciò li abbandonai alla durezza del loro cuore, perché camminassero secondo i loro piani.

So I gave them up unto their own hearts' stubbornness: they walked after their own counsels.

13 O h, se il mio popolo volesse ascoltarmi, se Israele volesse camminare nelle mie vie!

Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, that Israel had walked in my ways!

14 S ubito umilierei i loro nemici e rivolgerei la mia mano contro i loro avversari.

I would soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.

15 Q uelli che odiano il Signore striscerebbero davanti a lui e la loro sorte sarebbe decisa per sempre.

The haters of Jehovah would have come cringing unto him; but their time would have been for ever.

16 I o nutrirei Israele con fior di frumento e lo sazierei di miele che stilla dalla roccia».

And he would have fed them with the finest of wheat; yea, with honey out of the rock would I have satisfied thee.
