1 A ll’uomo spettano i disegni del cuore, ma la risposta della lingua viene dal Signore.

The purposes of the heart are of man, but the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah.

2 T utte le vie dell’uomo a lui sembrano pure, ma il Signore pesa gli spiriti.

All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but Jehovah weigheth the spirits.

3 A ffida al Signore le tue opere, e i tuoi progetti avranno successo.

Commit thy works unto Jehovah, and thy thoughts shall be established.

4 I l Signore ha fatto ogni cosa per uno scopo; anche l’empio, per il giorno della sventura.

Jehovah hath wrought everything on his own account, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 C hi ha un cuore superbo è in abominio al Signore; certo è che non rimarrà impunito.

Every proud heart is an abomination to Jehovah: hand for hand, he shall not be held innocent.

6 C on la bontà e con la fedeltà l’iniquità si espia, e con il timore del Signore si evita il male.

By loving-kindness and truth iniquity is atoned for; and by the fear of Jehovah depart from evil.

7 Q uando il Signore gradisce le vie di un uomo, riconcilia con lui anche i suoi nemici.

When a man's ways please Jehovah, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8 M eglio poco con giustizia, che grandi entrate senza equità.

Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right.

9 I l cuore dell’uomo medita la sua via, ma il Signore dirige i suoi passi.

The heart of man deviseth his way, but Jehovah directeth his steps.

10 S ulle labbra del re sta una sentenza divina; quando pronuncia il giudizio la sua bocca non erra.

An oracle is on the lips of the king: his mouth will not err in judgment.

11 L a stadera e le bilance giuste appartengono al Signore; tutti i pesi del sacchetto sono opera sua.

The just balance and scales are Jehovah's; all the weights of the bag are his work.

12 I re hanno orrore di fare il male, perché il trono è reso stabile con la giustizia.

It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; for the throne is established by righteousness.

13 L e labbra giuste sono gradite ai re; essi amano chi parla rettamente.

Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaketh aright.

14 I ra del re vuol dire messaggeri di morte, ma l’uomo saggio la placherà.

The fury of a king is messengers of death; but a wise man will pacify it.

15 L a serenità del volto del re dà la vita, e il suo favore è come nuvola di pioggia primaverile.

In the light of the king's countenance is life, and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

16 L ’acquisto della saggezza è migliore di quello dell’oro, l’acquisto dell’intelligenza preferibile a quello dell’argento!

How much better is it to get wisdom than fine gold, and the getting of intelligence to be preferred to silver!

17 L a strada maestra dell’uomo retto è evitare il male; chi bada alla sua via preserva se stesso.

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that taketh heed to his way keepeth his soul.

18 L a superbia precede la rovina, e lo spirito altero precede la caduta.

Pride before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

19 È meglio essere umili con i poveri che spartire la preda con i superbi.

Better is it to be of a humble spirit with the meek, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 C hi presta attenzione alla parola se ne troverà bene, e beato colui che confida nel Signore!

He that giveth heed to the word shall find good; and whoso confideth in Jehovah, happy is he.

21 I l saggio di cuore è chiamato intelligente, e la dolcezza delle labbra aumenta il sapere.

The wise in heart is called intelligent, and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

22 I l senno, per chi lo possiede, è fonte di vita, ma la stoltezza è il castigo degli stolti.

Wisdom is a fountain of life for him that hath it; but the instruction of fools is folly.

23 I l cuore del saggio gli rende assennata la bocca e aumenta il sapere sulle sue labbra.

The heart of the wise maketh his mouth intelligent, and upon his lips increaseth learning.

24 L e parole gentili sono un favo di miele; dolcezza all’anima, salute alle ossa.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health for the bones.

25 C ’è una via che all’uomo sembra diritta, ma finisce con il condurre alla morte.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.

26 L a fame del lavoratore lavora per lui, perché la sua bocca lo stimola.

The appetite of the labourer laboureth for him, for his mouth urgeth him on.

27 L ’uomo cattivo va scavando il male ad altri; sulle sue labbra c’è come un fuoco consumante.

A man of Belial diggeth up evil, and on his lips there is as a scorching fire.

28 L ’uomo perverso semina contese, il maldicente disunisce gli amici migliori.

A false man soweth contention; and a talebearer separateth very friends.

29 L ’uomo violento trascina il compagno e lo conduce per una via non buona.

A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into a way that is not good.

30 C hi chiude gli occhi per tramare cose perverse, chi si morde le labbra, ha già compiuto il male.

He that shutteth his eyes, to devise froward things; biting his lips, he bringeth evil to pass.

31 I capelli bianchi sono una corona d’onore; la si trova sulla via della giustizia.

The hoary head is a crown of glory, it is found in the way of righteousness.

32 C hi è lento all’ira vale più del prode guerriero; chi ha autocontrollo vale più di chi espugna città.

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

33 S i getta la sorte nel grembo, ma ogni decisione viene dal Signore.

The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole decision is of Jehovah.
