1 P ropose loro una parabola per mostrare che dovevano pregare sempre e non stancarsi:

And he spoke also a parable to them to the purport that they should always pray and not faint,

2 « In una certa città vi era un giudice, che non temeva Dio e non aveva rispetto per nessuno;

saying, There was a judge in a city, not fearing God and not respecting man:

3 e in quella città vi era una vedova, la quale andava da lui e diceva: “Rendimi giustizia sul mio avversario”.

and there was a widow in that city, and she came to him, saying, Avenge me of mine adverse party.

4 E gli per qualche tempo non volle farlo; ma poi disse fra sé: “Benché io non tema Dio e non abbia rispetto per nessuno,

And he would not for a time; but afterwards he said within himself, If even I fear not God and respect not man,

5 p ure, poiché questa vedova continua a importunarmi, le renderò giustizia, perché, venendo a insistere, non finisca per rompermi la testa”».

at any rate because this widow annoys me I will avenge her, that she may not by perpetually coming completely harass me.

6 I l Signore disse: «Ascoltate quel che dice il giudice ingiusto.

And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says.

7 D io non renderà dunque giustizia ai suoi eletti che giorno e notte gridano a lui? Tarderà nei loro confronti?

And shall not God at all avenge his elect, who cry to him day and night, and he bears long as to them?

8 I o vi dico che renderà giustizia con prontezza. Ma quando il Figlio dell’uomo verrà, troverà la fede sulla terra?» Il fariseo e il pubblicano

I say unto you that he will avenge them speedily. But when the Son of man comes, shall he indeed find faith on the earth?

9 D isse ancora questa parabola per certuni che erano persuasi di essere giusti e disprezzavano gli altri:

And he spoke also to some, who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and made nothing of all the rest, this parable:

10 « Due uomini salirono al tempio per pregare; uno era fariseo e l’altro pubblicano.

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer.

11 I l fariseo, stando in piedi, pregava così dentro di sé: “O Dio, ti ringrazio che io non sono come gli altri uomini, ladri, ingiusti, adùlteri; neppure come questo pubblicano.

The Pharisee, standing, prayed thus to himself: God, I thank thee that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer.

12 I o digiuno due volte la settimana, pago la decima su tutto quello che possiedo”.

I fast twice in the week, I tithe everything I gain.

13 M a il pubblicano se ne stava a distanza e non osava neppure alzare gli occhi al cielo; ma si batteva il petto, dicendo: “O Dio, abbi pietà di me, peccatore!”

And the tax-gatherer, standing afar off, would not lift up even his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, O God, have compassion on me, the sinner.

14 I o vi dico che questo tornò a casa sua giustificato, piuttosto che quello; perché chiunque s’innalza sarà abbassato, ma chi si abbassa sarà innalzato». Gesù benedice i bambini

I say unto you, This went down to his house justified rather than that. For every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

15 P ortavano a Gesù anche i bambini, perché li toccasse; ma i discepoli, vedendo ciò, li sgridavano.

And they brought to him also infants that he might touch them, but the disciples when they saw rebuked them.

16 A llora Gesù li chiamò a sé e disse: «Lasciate che i bambini vengano a me, e non glielo vietate, perché il regno di Dio è di chi è come loro.

But Jesus calling them to said, Suffer little children to come to me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God.

17 I n verità vi dico: chiunque non avrà ricevuto il regno di Dio come un bambino, non vi entrerà affatto». Il giovane ricco

Verily I say to you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

18 U no dei capi lo interrogò, dicendo: «Maestro buono, che devo fare per ereditare la vita eterna?»

And a certain ruler asked him saying, Good teacher, having done what, shall I inherit eternal life?

19 G esù gli disse: «Perché mi chiami buono? Nessuno è buono, tranne uno solo, cioè Dio.

But Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, God.

20 T u conosci i comandamenti: Non commettere adulterio; non uccidere; non rubare; non dir falsa testimonianza; onora tuo padre e tua madre ».

Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

21 E d egli rispose: «Tutte queste cose io le ho osservate fin dalla gioventù».

And he said, All these things have I kept from my youth.

22 G esù, udito questo, gli disse: «Una cosa ti manca ancora: vendi tutto quello che hai e distribuiscilo ai poveri, e avrai un tesoro nei cieli; poi vieni e seguimi».

And when Jesus had heard this, he said to him, One thing is lacking to thee yet: Sell all that thou hast and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in the heavens, and come, follow me.

23 M a egli, udite queste cose, ne fu afflitto, perché era molto ricco.

But when he heard this he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.

24 G esù, vedendolo {così triste}, disse: «Quanto è difficile, per quelli che hanno delle ricchezze, entrare nel regno di Dio!

But when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, he said, How difficultly shall those who have riches enter into the kingdom of God;

25 P erché è più facile per un cammello passare attraverso la cruna di un ago, che per un ricco entrare nel regno di Dio».

for it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

26 Q uelli che udirono dissero: «Chi dunque può essere salvato?»

And those who heard it said, And who can be saved?

27 E gli rispose: «Le cose impossibili agli uomini sono possibili a Dio».

But he said, The things that are impossible with men are possible with God.

28 P ietro disse: «Ecco, noi abbiamo lasciato le nostre cose e ti abbiamo seguito».

And Peter said, Behold, we have left all things and have followed thee.

29 E d egli disse loro: «Vi dico in verità che non c’è nessuno che abbia lasciato casa, o moglie, o fratelli, o genitori, o figli a causa del regno di Dio,

And he said to them, Verily I say to you, There is no one who has left home, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,

30 i l quale non ne riceva molte volte tanto in questo tempo e, nell’età futura, la vita eterna». Gesù predice per la terza volta la Passione

who shall not receive manifold more at this time, and in the coming age life eternal.

31 P oi prese con sé i dodici e disse loro: «Ecco, noi saliamo a Gerusalemme, e saranno compiute riguardo al Figlio dell’uomo tutte le cose scritte dai profeti.

And he took the twelve to and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written of the Son of man by the prophets shall be accomplished;

32 I nfatti egli sarà consegnato ai pagani, e sarà schernito e oltraggiato e gli sputeranno addosso;

for he shall be delivered up to the nations, and shall be mocked, and insulted, and spit upon.

33 e , dopo averlo flagellato, lo uccideranno; ma il terzo giorno risusciterà».

And when they have scourged they will kill him; and on the third day he will rise again.

34 E d essi non capirono nulla di tutto questo; quel discorso era per loro oscuro e non capivano ciò che Gesù voleva dire. Gesù guarisce un cieco

And they understood nothing of these things. And this word was hidden from them, and they did not know what was said.

35 C ome egli si avvicinava a Gerico, un cieco che sedeva presso la strada, mendicando,

And it came to pass when he came into the neighbourhood of Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging.

36 u dì la folla che passava e domandò che cosa fosse.

And when he heard the crowd passing, he inquired what this might be.

37 G li fecero sapere che passava Gesù il Nazareno.

And they told him that Jesus the Nazaraean was passing by.

38 A llora egli gridò: «Gesù, Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di me!»

And he called out saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.

39 E quelli che precedevano lo sgridavano perché tacesse; ma lui gridava più forte: «Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di me!»

And those going before rebuked him that he might be silent; but he cried out so much the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.

40 G esù, fermatosi, comandò che il cieco fosse condotto a lui; e, quando gli fu vicino, gli domandò:

And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be led to him. And when he drew nigh he asked him,

41 « Che vuoi che io ti faccia?» Egli disse: «Signore, che io recuperi la vista».

What wilt thou that I shall do to thee? And he said, Lord, that I may see.

42 E Gesù gli disse: «Recupera la vista; la tua fede ti ha salvato».

And Jesus said to him, See: thy faith has healed thee.

43 N ello stesso momento recuperò la vista, e lo seguiva glorificando Dio; e tutto il popolo, visto ciò, diede lode a Dio.

And immediately he saw, and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people when they saw gave praise to God.
