1 Т огава Яков отиде по пътя си и ангели Божии го срещнаха.

And Jacob hath gone on his way, and messengers of God come upon him;

2 А като ги видя, Яков рече: Това е Божие войнство; и наименува мястото Маханаим.

and Jacob saith, when he hath seen them, `This the camp of God;' and he calleth the name of that place `Two Camps.'

3 И Яков изпрати пред себе си вестители до брата си Исава в Сирийската земя, на местността Едом;

And Jacob sendeth messengers before him unto Esau his brother, towards the land of Seir, the field of Edom,

4 и заръча им, казвайки: Така да речете на господаря ми Исава: Слугата ти Яков тъй говори: Бях пришелец при Лавана и бавих се до сега;

and commandeth them, saying, `Thus do ye say to my lord, to Esau: Thus said thy servant Jacob, With Laban I have sojourned, and I tarry until now;

5 п ридобих говеда, осли и, слуги и слугини; и изпратих да известят на господаря ми, за да придобия благоволението ти.

and I have ox, and ass, flock, and man-servant, and maid-servant, and I send to declare to my lord, to find grace in his eyes.'

6 А вестителите се върнаха при Якова и казаха: Ходихме при брата ти Исава; а и той иде да те посрещне, и четиристотин мъже с него.

And the messengers turn back unto Jacob, saying, `We came in unto thy brother, unto Esau, and he also is coming to meet thee, and four hundred men with him;'

7 А Яков, като се уплаши много и се смути, раздели людете, които бяха с него, и стадата, говедата и камилите, на две дружини, казвайки:

and Jacob feareth exceedingly, and is distressed, and he divideth the people who with him, and the flock, and the herd, and the camels, into two camps,

8 А ко налети Исав на едната дружина и я удари, останалата дружина ще се избави.

and saith, `If Esau come in unto the one camp, and have smitten it -- then the camp which is left hath been for an escape.'

9 Т огава Яков каза: Боже на баща ми Авраам и Боже на баща ми Исаака, Господи, Който си ми рекъл: Върни се в отечеството си и при рода си, и Аз ще ти сторя добро,

And Jacob saith, `God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Jehovah who saith unto me, Turn back to thy land, and to thy kindred, and I do good with thee:

10 н е съм достоен за най-малката от всичките милости и от всичката вярност, които си показал на слугата си; защото едвам с тоягата си преминах тоя Иордан, а сега станах и два стана.

I have been unworthy of all the kind acts, and of all the truth which Thou hast done with thy servant -- for, with my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

11 И збави ме, моля Ти се, от ръката на брата ми, от ръката на Исава; защото се боя от него, да не би като дойде, да порази и мен, и майка с чада.

`Deliver me, I pray Thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I am fearing him, less he come and have smitten me -- mother beside sons;

12 А Ти си казал: Наистина ще ти сторя добро и ще направя потомството ти като морския пясък, който поради множеството си не може да се изброи.

and Thou -- Thou hast said, I certainly do good with thee, and have set thy seed as the sand of the sea, which is not numbered because of the multitude.'

13 К ато пренощува там оная нощ, взе от онова, що му дойде под ръка, за подарък на брата си Исава:

And he lodgeth there during that night, and taketh from that which is coming into his hand, a present for Esau his brother:

14 д веста кози и двадесет козли, двеста овци и двадесет овни,

she-goats two hundred, and he-goats twenty, ewes two hundred, and rams twenty,

15 т ридесет дойни камили с малките им, четиридесет крави и десет юнци, двадесет ослици и десет жречбета,

suckling camels and their young ones thirty, cows forty, and bullocks ten, she-asses twenty, and foals ten;

16 и предаде всяко стадо отделно, в ръцете на слугите си. И рече на слугите си: Минете пред мене и оставете разстояние между едно стадо и друго.

and he giveth into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and saith unto his servants, `Pass over before me, and a space ye do put between drove and drove.'

17 Н а първия заръча, като каза: Когато те срещне брат ми Исав и те попита, казвайки: Чий си? Къде отиваш? Чии са тия пред тебе?

And he commandeth the first, saying, `When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and hath asked thee, saying, Whose thou? and whither goest thou? and whose these before thee?

18 Т огава ще кажеш: Те са на слугата ти Якова; подарък е, който изпраща на господаря ми Исава; и той иде подир нас.

then thou hast said, Thy servant Jacob's: it a present sent to my lord, to Esau; and lo, he also behind us.'

19 Т ака заръча и на втория, на третия и на всичките, които вървяха подир стадата, като казваше: По тоя начин ще говорите на Исава, когато го срещнете;

And he commandeth also the second, also the third, also all who are going after the droves, saying, `According to this manner do ye speak unto Esau in your finding him,

20 и ще речете: Ето, слугата ти Яков иде подир нас. Защото си думаше: Ще го умилостивя с подаръка, който върви пред мене и после ще видя лицето му; може би ще ме приеме благосклонно.

and ye have said also, Lo, thy servant Jacob behind us;' for he said, `I pacify his face with the present which is going before me, and afterwards I see his face; it may be he lifteth up my face;'

21 И тъй, подаръкът мина пред него, но той остана през оная нощ в стана.

and the present passeth over before his face, and he hath lodged during that night in the camp.

22 А като стана през нощта, взе двете си жени, двете си слугини и единадесетте си деца, и премина брода на Яков.

And he riseth in that night, and taketh his two wives, and his two maid-servants, and his eleven children, and passeth over the passage of Jabbok;

23 В зе ги и ги прекара през потока, прекара и всичко, що имаше.

and he taketh them, and causeth them to pass over the brook, and he causeth that which he hath to pass over.

24 А Яков остана сам. И един човек се бореше с него до зазоряване,

And Jacob is left alone, and one wrestleth with him till the ascending of the dawn;

25 к ойто, като видя, че не му надви, допря се до ставата на бедрото му; и ставата на Якововото бедро се измести, като се бореше с него.

and he seeth that he is not able for him, and he cometh against the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob's thigh is disjointed in his wrestling with him;

26 Т огава човекът рече: Пусни ме да си отида, защото се зазори. А Яков каза: Няма да те пусна да си отидеш, догде не ме благословиш

and he saith, `Send me away, for the dawn hath ascended:' and he saith, `I send thee not away, except thou hast blessed me.'

27 А той му каза: Как ти е името? Отговори: Яков.

And he saith unto him, `What thy name?' and he saith, `Jacob.'

28 А той рече: Няма да се именуваш вече Яков, но Израил, защото си бил в борба с Бога и с човеци и си надвил.

And he saith, `Thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast been a prince with God and with men, and dost prevail.'

29 А Яков го попита, като рече: Кажи ми, моля, твоето име. А той рече: Защо питаш за моето име? И благоволи го там.

And Jacob asketh, and saith, `Declare, I pray thee, thy name;' and he saith, `Why this, thou askest for My name?' and He blesseth him there.

30 И Яков наименува мястото Фануил+, защото, си казваше: Видях Бога лице с лице и животът ми биде опазен.

And Jacob calleth the name of the place Peniel: for `I have seen God face unto face, and my life is delivered;'

31 С лънцето го огря, като заминаваше Фануил; и куцаше с бедрото си.

and the sun riseth on him when he hath passed over Penuel, and he is halting on his thigh;

32 З атова и до днес израилтяните не ядат сухата жила, която е върху ставата на бедрото; защото човекът се допря до ставата на Якововото бедро при сухата жила.

therefore the sons of Israel do not eat the sinew which shrank, which on the hollow of the thigh, unto this day, because He came against the hollow of Jacob's thigh, against the sinew which shrank.
