1 A cest cuvânt este vrednic de încredere: dacă doreşte cineva să fie supraveghetor, doreşte o lucrare bună.

The word faithful: if any one aspires to exercise oversight, he desires a good work.

2 S upraveghetorul însă trebuie să fie fără reproş, soţ al unei singure femei, demn, cumpătat, respectabil, ospitalier, capabil să dea învăţătură,

The overseer then must be irreproachable, husband of one wife, sober, discreet, decorous, hospitable, apt to teach;

3 s ă nu fie beţiv, nici bătăuş, ci blând şi nu certăreţ, nu iubitor de bani,

not given to excesses from wine, not a striker, but mild, not addicted to contention, not fond of money,

4 s ă-şi conducă bine propria casă, să-şi ţină copiii în supunere, cu toată demnitatea –

conducting his own house well, having children in subjection with all gravity;

5 p entru că, dacă cineva nu ştie să-şi conducă propria casă, cum se va îngriji de biserica lui Dumnezeu? –

(but if one does not know how to conduct his own house, how shall he take care of the assembly of God?)

6 s ă nu fie convertit de curând, ca nu cumva să se umfle de mândrie şi să cadă sub aceeaşi condamnare ca şi diavolul.

not a novice, that he may not, being inflated, fall into fault of the devil.

7 T rebuie să aibă şi o bună mărturie din partea celor din afară, ca să nu cadă în dispreţ şi în capcana diavolului.

But it is necessary that he should have also a good testimony from those without, that he may fall not into reproach and snare of the devil.

8 D iaconii, de asemenea, trebuie să fie onorabili, nu cu două feţe, nu băutori de mult vin, nu lacomi de câştig;

Ministers, in like manner, grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not seeking gain by base means,

9 s ă păstreze taina credinţei cu o conştiinţă curată.

holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

10 M ai întâi, trebuie să fie verificaţi şi abia apoi, dacă se dovedesc a fi fără pată, să slujească drept diaconi.

And let these be first proved, then let them minister, being without charge.

11 D e asemenea, femeile trebuie să fie onorabile, să nu fie acuzatoare, să fie cumpătate, credincioase în toate.

women in like manner grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

12 D iaconul trebuie să fie soţul unei singure femei şi să-şi conducă bine copiii şi propria casă.

Let ministers be husbands of one wife, conducting children and their own houses well:

13 C ăci cei ce slujesc bine ca diaconi câştigă o poziţie bună pentru ei înşişi şi o mare îndrăzneală în credinţa care este în Cristos Isus.

for those who shall have ministered well obtain for themselves a good degree, and much boldness in faith which in Christ Jesus.

14 S per să vin la tine cât de curând, însă îţi scriu aceste lucruri pentru ca,

These things I write to thee, hoping to come to thee more quickly;

15 d acă întârzii, să ştii cum trebuie să te comporţi în Casa lui Dumnezeu, care este Biserica Dumnezeului celui Viu, stâlpul şi temelia adevărului.

but if I delay, in order that thou mayest know how one ought to conduct oneself in God's house, which is assembly of living God, pillar and base of the truth.

16 Ş i fără îndoială, mare este taina evlaviei. „Cel Ce a fost arătat în trup, a fost dovedit drept prin Duhul, a fost văzut de îngeri, a fost predicat printre neamuri, a fost crezut în lume, a fost luat în slavă.“

And confessedly the mystery of piety is great. God has been manifested in flesh, has been justified in Spirit, has appeared to angels, has been preached among nations, has been believed on in world, has been received up in glory.
