1 C ăpeteniile familiilor şi genealogiile celor care au plecat împreună cu mine din Babilon, în timpul domniei împăratului Artaxerxes, au fost:

And these are the chief fathers, and their genealogy, who went up with me from Babylon in the reign of Artaxerxes the king.

2 d intre urmaşii lui Fineas – Gherşom; dintre urmaşii lui Itamar – Daniel; dintre urmaşii lui David – Hatuş,

Of the children of Phinehas, Gershom; of the children of Ithamar, Daniel; of the children of David, Hattush;

3 f iul lui Şecania; dintre urmaşii lui Paroş – Zaharia şi alţi o sută cincizeci de bărbaţi, înscrişi în genealogii împreună cu el;

of the children of Shecaniah, of the children of Parosh, Zechariah, and with him were registered by genealogy of the males a hundred and fifty.

4 d intre urmaşii lui Pahat-Moab – Elioenai, fiul lui Zerahia; împreună cu el mai erau încă două sute de bărbaţi;

Of the children of Pahath-Moab, Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.

5 d intre urmaşii lui Zatu – Şecania, fiul lui Iahaziel; împreună cu el mai erau încă trei sute de bărbaţi;

Of the children of Shechaniah, the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males.

6 d intre urmaşii lui Adin – Ebed, fiul lui Ionatan; împreună cu el mai erau încă cincizeci de bărbaţi;

And of the children of Adin, Ebed the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty males.

7 d intre urmaşii lui Elam – Ieşaia, fiul lui Atalia; împreună cu el mai erau încă şaptezeci de bărbaţi;

And of the children of Elam, Isaiah the son of Athaliah, and with him seventy males.

8 d intre urmaşii lui Şefatia – Zebadia, fiul lui Mihail; împreună cu el mai erau încă optzeci de bărbaţi;

And of the children of Shephatiah, Zebadiah the son of Michael, and with him eighty males.

9 d intre urmaşii lui Ioab – Obadia, fiul lui Iehiel; împreună cu el mai erau încă două sute optsprezece bărbaţi;

Of the children of Joab, Obadiah the son of Jehiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

10 d intre urmaşii lui Bani – Şelomit, fiul lui Iosifia; împreună cu el mai erau încă o sută şaizeci de bărbaţi;

And of the children of Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah, and with him a hundred and sixty males.

11 d intre urmaşii lui Bebai – Zaharia, fiul lui Bebai; împreună cu el mai erau încă douăzeci şi opt de bărbaţi;

And of the children of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him twenty-eight males.

12 d intre urmaşii lui Azgad – Iohanan, fiul lui Hakatan; împreună cu el mai erau încă o sută zece bărbaţi;

And of the children of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan, and with him a hundred and ten males.

13 d intre cei din urmă urmaşi ai lui Adonikam – Elifelet, Ieiel şi Şemaia; împreună cu ei mai erau încă şaizeci de bărbaţi;

And of the children of Adonikam, the last ones, whose names are these: Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them sixty males.

14 d intre urmaşii lui Bigvai – Utai şi Zacur; împreună cu ei mai erau încă şaptezeci de bărbaţi. Călătoria lui Ezra spre Ierusalim

And of the children of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud, and with them seventy males.

15 I -am convocat la râul care curge înspre Ahava şi ne-am aşezat tabăra acolo timp de trei zile. Am cercetat poporul şi preoţii şi nu am găsit pe nici unul dintre leviţi acolo.

And I gathered them together at the river that runs to Ahava; and there we encamped three days; and I surveyed the people and the priests, and found none of the sons of Levi there.

16 A tunci am trimis după căpeteniile Eliezer, Ariel, Şemaia, Elnatan, Iarib, Elnatan, Natan, Zaharia şi Meşulam şi după învăţătorii Ioiarib şi Elnatan,

And I sent for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men, and for Joiarib and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

17 p e care i-am trimis apoi la căpetenia Ido, care locuia la Casifia. Le-am zis ce anume să-i spună lui Ido şi rudelor sale, dintre slujitorii de la Templu care locuiau la Casifia, ca astfel să ne aducă slujitori pentru Casa Dumnezeului nostru.

And I gave them a commission to Iddo the chief, at the place Casiphia, and I put words in their mouths to say to Iddo his brethren the Nethinim, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring to us ministers for the house of our God.

18 Ş i fiindcă mâna cea bună a Dumnezeului nostru era peste noi, ne-au adus pe Şerebia – un om chibzuit, unul dintre urmaşii lui Mahli, fiul lui Levi, fiul lui Israel – împreună cu încă optsprezece bărbaţi dintre fiii şi rudele sale,

And by the good hand of our God upon us, they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, namely, Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

19 p recum şi pe Haşabia şi pe Ieşaia, dintre urmaşii lui Merari, împreună cu încă douăzeci de bărbaţi dintre fiii şi rudele lor.

and Hashabiah, and with him Isaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

20 D intre slujitorii de la Templu puşi de David şi de căpeteniile sale în slujba leviţilor au adus două sute douăzeci, toţi menţionaţi pe nume.

and of the Nethinim, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim: all of them were expressed by name.

21 A colo, la râul Ahava, am vestit un post, smerindu-ne înaintea Dumnezeului nostru şi cerând de la El drum bun pentru noi, pentru copiii noştri şi pentru toate averile noastre,

And I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

22 c ăci mi-a fost ruşine să-i cer împăratului oaste şi călăreţi care să ne apere de duşmani pe drum, odată ce îi spusesem împăratului că mâna Dumnezeului nostru este peste toţi cei ce-L caută, ca să le facă bine, dar puterea şi mânia Lui sunt peste toţi cei ce-L părăsesc.

For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way; for we had spoken to the king saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his anger is against all them that forsake him.

23 A m postit şi ne-am rugat Dumnezeului nostru cu privire la aceasta, iar El ne-a ascultat.

And we fasted, and besought our God for this; and he was entreated of us.

24 A poi am ales douăsprezece dintre căpeteniile preoţilor, şi anume pe Şerebia, pe Haşabia şi pe zece din rudele lor,

And I separated twelve of the chiefs of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

25 ş i am cântărit înaintea lor arginul, aurul şi vasele oferite în dar pentru Casa Dumnezeului nostru de împărat, de sfetnicii săi, de căpeteniile sale şi de întreg Israelul prezent.

and I weighed to them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the heave-offering for the house of our God, which the king and his counsellors and his princes, and all Israel present, had offered.

26 L e-am predat şase sute cincizeci de talanţi de argint, vase de argint în valoare de o sută de talanţi de argint, o sută de talanţi de aur,

And I weighed into their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver; and silver vessels a hundred talents, of gold a hundred talents;

27 d ouăzeci de cupe de aur în valoare de o mie de darici şi două vase de bronz de calitate, lustruit, la fel de valoros precum aurul.

and twenty basons of gold, of a thousand darics; and two vessels of shining copper, precious as gold.

28 L e-am zis atunci: „Voi sunteţi puşi deoparte pentru Domnul, iar vasele acestea sunt lucruri sfinte; totodată argintul şi aurul sunt un dar de bunăvoie adus Domnului, Dumnezeul strămoşilor voştri.

And I said to them, Ye are holy unto Jehovah; the vessels also are holy; and the silver and the gold is a voluntary offering to Jehovah the God of your fathers.

29 V egheaţi şi păziţi-le până le veţi cântări înaintea căpeteniilor preoţilor şi leviţilor şi înaintea căpeteniilor familiilor lui Israel, în odăile Casei Domnului din Ierusalim.“

Watch and keep until ye weigh them before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites, and the chiefs of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of Jehovah.

30 P reoţii şi leviţii au preluat argintul, aurul şi vasele ca să le ducă la Ierusalim, la Casa Dumnezeului nostru.

And the priests and the Levites received by weight the silver and the gold and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

31 A m plecat de la râul Ahava spre Ierusalim în a douăsprezecea zi a lunii întâi, iar mâna Dumnezeului nostru a fost peste noi, păzindu-ne pe drum de atacul duşmanilor şi al tâlharilor.

And we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth of the first month, to go to Jerusalem; and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.

32 C ând am ajuns la Ierusalim, ne-am odihnit acolo timp de trei zile.

And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.

33 Î n a patra zi a fost cântărit argintul, aurul şi vasele, la Casa lui Dumnezeu, de către Meremot, fiul preotului Uria, care era însoţit de Elazar, fiul lui Fineas, şi de leviţii Iozabad, fiul lui Iosua, şi Noadia, fiul lui Binui.

And on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Urijah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them were Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites:

34 T oate au fost preluate după număr şi după greutate şi, în ziua aceea, s-a înscris în documente greutatea lor totală.

the whole by number and by weight; and all the weight was written down at that time.

35 E xilaţii întorşi din captivitate au adus Dumnezeului lui Israel, ca ardere de tot, doisprezece viţei pentru întreg Israelul, nouăzeci şi şase de berbeci, şaptezeci şi şapte de miei, iar ca jertfă pentru păcat – doisprezece ţapi. Toate acestea au fost aduse ca ardere de tot Domnului.

The children of those that had been carried away, who had come out of the captivity, presented burnt-offerings to the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, twelve he-goats for a sin-offering: all for a burnt-offering to Jehovah.

36 A u înmânat decretele împăratului satrapilor imperiali şi guvernatorilor provinciei de peste râu, iar aceştia au sprijinit poporul şi Casa lui Dumnezeu.

And they delivered the king's edicts to the king's satraps, and to the governors on this side the river. And they furthered the people and the house of God.
