1 L odate il Signore, perché è cosa buona salmeggiare al nostro Dio, perché è cosa dolce, e la lode si addice a lui.

Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.

2 I l Signore ricostruisce Gerusalemme, raccoglie i dispersi d’Israele;

The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel.

3 e gli guarisce chi ha il cuore spezzato e fascia le loro piaghe.

He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

4 E gli conta il numero delle stelle, le chiama tutte per nome.

He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them.

5 G rande è il nostro Signore e immenso è il suo potere; la sua intelligenza è infinita.

Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.

6 I l Signore sostiene gli umili, ma abbassa gli empi fino a terra.

The Lord supports the afflicted; He brings down the wicked to the ground.

7 C antate al Signore inni di lode, salmeggiate con la cetra al nostro Dio,

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; Sing praises to our God on the lyre,

8 c he copre il cielo di nuvole, prepara la pioggia per la terra e fa germogliare l’erba sui monti.

Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who provides rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains.

9 E gli dà il cibo al bestiame e ai piccini dei corvi, quando gridano.

He gives to the beast its food, And to the young ravens which cry.

10 E gli non si compiace del vigore del cavallo, né della forza delle gambe dell’uomo.

He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.

11 I l Signore si compiace di quelli che lo temono, di quelli che sperano nella sua bontà.

The Lord favors those who fear Him, Those who wait for His lovingkindness.

12 C elebra il Signore, o Gerusalemme! Loda il tuo Dio, o Sion!

Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!

13 P erché egli ha rinforzato le sbarre delle tue porte, ha benedetto i tuoi figli in mezzo a te.

For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your sons within you.

14 E gli mantiene la pace entro i tuoi confini, ti sazia con frumento scelto.

He makes peace in your borders; He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat.

15 E gli manda i suoi ordini sulla terra, la sua parola corre velocissima.

He sends forth His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly.

16 E gli manda la neve come lana, sparge la brina come cenere.

He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes.

17 E gli getta il suo ghiaccio come a pezzi; e chi può resistere al suo freddo?

He casts forth His ice as fragments; Who can stand before His cold?

18 E gli manda la sua parola e li fa sciogliere; fa soffiare il suo vento e le acque corrono.

He sends forth His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow.

19 E gli fa conoscere la sua parola a Giacobbe, i suoi statuti e i suoi decreti a Israele.

He declares His words to Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to Israel.

20 E gli non ha agito così con tutte le nazioni, e i suoi decreti esse non li conoscono. Alleluia.

He has not dealt thus with any nation; And as for His ordinances, they have not known them. Praise the Lord!
