1 I n quel giorno Gesù, uscito di casa, si mise a sedere presso il mare;

That day Jesus went out of the house and was sitting by the sea.

2 e una grande folla si radunò intorno a lui; cosicché egli, salito su una barca, vi sedette; e tutta la folla stava sulla riva.

And large crowds gathered to Him, so He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd was standing on the beach.

3 E gli parlò loro di molte cose in parabole, dicendo: «Il seminatore uscì a seminare.

And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow;

4 M entre seminava, una parte del seme cadde lungo la strada; gli uccelli vennero e la mangiarono.

and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up.

5 U n’altra cadde in luoghi rocciosi, dove non aveva molta terra; e subito spuntò, perché non aveva terreno profondo;

Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil.

6 m a, levatosi il sole, fu bruciata; e, non avendo radice, inaridì.

But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

7 U n’altra cadde tra le spine; e le spine crebbero e la soffocarono.

Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.

8 U n’altra cadde nella buona terra e portò frutto, dando il cento, il sessanta, il trenta per uno.

And others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.

9 C hi ha orecchi oda».

He who has ears, let him hear.” An Explanation

10 A llora i discepoli si avvicinarono e gli dissero: «Perché parli loro in parabole?»

And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”

11 E gli rispose loro: «Perché a voi è dato di conoscere i misteri del regno dei cieli; ma a loro non è dato.

Jesus answered them, “ To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.

12 P erché a chiunque ha, sarà dato e sarà nell’abbondanza; ma a chiunque non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.

For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

13 P er questo parlo loro in parabole: perché, vedendo, non vedono; e udendo, non odono né comprendono.

Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

14 E si adempie in loro la profezia d’Isaia che dice: “Voi udrete e non comprenderete; guarderete e non vedrete;

In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, ‘ You will keep on hearing, but will not understand; You will keep on seeing, but will not perceive;

15 p erché il cuore di questo popolo si è fatto insensibile: sono diventati duri d’orecchi e hanno chiuso gli occhi, affinché non vedano con gli occhi e non odano con gli orecchi, non comprendano con il cuore, non si convertano e io non li guarisca”.

For the heart of this people has become dull, With their ears they scarcely hear, And they have closed their eyes, Otherwise they would see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, And understand with their heart and return, And I would heal them.’

16 M a beati gli occhi vostri, perché vedono; e i vostri orecchi, perché odono!

But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.

17 I n verità io vi dico che molti profeti e giusti desiderarono vedere le cose che voi vedete, e non le videro; e udire le cose che voi udite, e non le udirono. Spiegazione della parabola del seminatore

For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. The Sower Explained

18 « Voi dunque ascoltate che cosa significhi la parabola del seminatore!

“ Hear then the parable of the sower.

19 T utte le volte che uno ode la parola del regno e non la comprende, viene il maligno e porta via quello che è stato seminato nel cuore di lui: questo è quello seminato lungo la strada.

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.

20 Q uello seminato in luoghi rocciosi è colui che ode la parola e subito la riceve con gioia,

The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;

21 p erò non ha radice in sé ed è di corta durata; e quando giunge la tribolazione o persecuzione a motivo della parola, è subito sviato.

yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away.

22 Q uello seminato tra le spine è colui che ode la parola; poi le ansiose preoccupazioni mondane e l’inganno delle ricchezze soffocano la parola, che rimane infruttuosa.

And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

23 Q uello invece seminato nella terra buona è colui che ode la parola e la comprende; egli quindi porta del frutto e rende il cento, il sessanta e il trenta per uno». La zizzania e il buon seme

And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.” Tares among Wheat

24 E gli propose loro un’altra parabola, dicendo: «Il regno dei cieli può essere paragonato ad un uomo che aveva seminato buon seme nel suo campo.

Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, “ The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.

25 M a, mentre gli uomini dormivano, venne il suo nemico e seminò della zizzania in mezzo al grano e se ne andò.

But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.

26 Q uando l’erba germogliò ed ebbe fatto frutto, allora apparve anche la zizzania.

But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also.

27 E i servi del padrone di casa vennero a dirgli: “Signore, non avevi seminato buon seme nel tuo campo? Come mai, dunque, c’è della zizzania ?”

The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’

28 E gli disse loro: “Un nemico ha fatto questo”. I servi gli dissero: “Vuoi che andiamo a coglierla?”

And he said to them, ‘An enemy has done this!’ The slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?’

29 M a egli rispose: “No, affinché, cogliendo la zizzania, non sradichiate insieme ad essa anche il grano.

But he said, ‘No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them.

30 L asciate che tutti e due crescano insieme fino alla mietitura; e, al tempo della mietitura, dirò ai mietitori: ‘Cogliete prima la zizzania, e legatela in fasci per bruciarla; ma il grano, raccoglietelo nel mio granaio’”». Il granello di senape

Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’” The Mustard Seed

31 E gli propose loro un’altra parabola, dicendo: «Il regno dei cieli è simile a un granello di senape che un uomo ha preso e seminato nel suo campo.

He presented another parable to them, saying, “ The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field;

32 E sso è il più piccolo di tutti i semi; ma, quand’è cresciuto, è maggiore degli ortaggi e diventa un albero; tanto che gli uccelli del cielo vengono a ripararsi tra i suoi rami». Il lievito

and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.” The Leaven

33 D isse loro un’altra parabola: «Il regno dei cieli è simile al lievito che una donna prende e nasconde in tre misure di farina, finché la pasta sia tutta lievitata».

He spoke another parable to them, “ The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three pecks of flour until it was all leavened.”

34 T utte queste cose disse Gesù in parabole alla folla e senza parabole non diceva loro nulla,

All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable.

35 a ffinché si adempisse quello che era stato detto per mezzo del profeta: «Aprirò in parabole la mia bocca; proclamerò cose nascoste fin dalla fondazione {del mondo }». Spiegazione della parabola della zizzania

This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “ I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.” The Tares Explained

36 A llora, lasciata la folla, tornò a casa; e i suoi discepoli gli si avvicinarono, dicendo: «Spiegaci la parabola della zizzania nel campo».

Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, “ Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”

37 E gli rispose: «Colui che semina il buon seme è il Figlio dell’uomo;

And He said, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,

38 i l campo è il mondo; il buon seme sono i figli del regno; la zizzania sono i figli del maligno;

and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one;

39 i l nemico che l’ha seminata è il diavolo; la mietitura è la fine dell’età presente; i mietitori sono angeli.

and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.

40 C ome dunque si raccoglie la zizzania e si brucia con il fuoco, così avverrà alla fine dell’età presente.

So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age.

41 I l Figlio dell’uomo manderà i suoi angeli, che raccoglieranno dal suo regno tutti gli scandali e tutti quelli che commettono l’iniquità,

The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness,

42 e li getteranno nella fornace ardente. Lì ci sarà pianto e stridor di denti.

and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

43 A llora i giusti risplenderanno come il sole nel regno del Padre loro. Chi ha orecchi oda. Il tesoro nascosto

Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. Hidden Treasure

44 « il regno dei cieli è simile a un tesoro nascosto nel campo, che un uomo, dopo averlo trovato, nasconde; e, per la gioia che ne ha, va e vende tutto quello che ha, e compra quel campo. La perla di gran valore

“ The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. A Costly Pearl

45 « Il regno dei cieli è anche simile a un mercante che va in cerca di belle perle;

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls,

46 e , trovata una perla di gran valore, se n’è andato, ha venduto tutto quello che aveva e l’ha comprata. La rete

and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. A Dragnet

47 « Il regno dei cieli è anche simile a una rete che, gettata in mare, ha raccolto ogni genere di pesci;

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind;

48 q uando è piena, i pescatori la traggono a riva, poi si mettono a sedere e raccolgono il buono in vasi, e buttano via quello che non vale nulla.

and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away.

49 C osì avverrà alla fine dell’età presente. Verranno gli angeli e separeranno i malvagi dai giusti,

So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous,

50 e li getteranno nella fornace ardente. Lì ci sarà pianto e stridor di denti.

and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 A vete capito tutte queste cose?» Essi gli risposero: «Sì ». Il padrone di casa

“Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him, “Yes.”

52 A llora disse loro: «Per questo ogni scriba che diventa un discepolo del regno dei cieli è simile a un padrone di casa, il quale tira fuori dal suo tesoro cose nuove e cose vecchie». Gesù a Nazaret

And Jesus said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old.” Jesus Revisits Nazareth

53 Q uando Gesù ebbe finito queste parabole, partì di là.

When Jesus had finished these parables, He departed from there.

54 R ecatosi nella sua patria, insegnava nella loro sinagoga, così che stupivano e dicevano: «Da dove gli vengono tanta sapienza e queste opere potenti?

He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?

55 N on è questi il figlio del falegname? Sua madre non si chiama Maria e i suoi fratelli Giacomo, Giuseppe, Simone e Giuda?

Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

56 E le sue sorelle non sono tutte tra di noi? Da dove gli vengono tutte queste cose?»

And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”

57 E si scandalizzavano a causa di lui. Ma Gesù disse loro: «Un profeta non è disprezzato che nella sua patria e in casa sua».

And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, “ A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.”

58 E lì, a causa della loro incredulità, non fece molte opere potenti.

And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.
