Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; Preserve my life from dread of the enemy.

2 M ettimi al riparo dalle trame dei malvagi, dagli intrighi dei malfattori.

Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers, From the tumult of those who do iniquity,

3 H anno affilato la loro lingua come spada e hanno scagliato come frecce parole amare,

Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrow,

4 p er colpire di nascosto l’uomo integro; lo colpiscono all’improvviso, e non hanno paura.

To shoot from concealment at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear.

5 S ’incoraggiano a vicenda in un’impresa malvagia; si accordano per camuffare tranelli, e dicono: «Chi se ne accorgerà?»

They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose; They talk of laying snares secretly; They say, “ Who can see them?”

6 M editano pensieri malvagi e dicono: «Abbiamo attuato il nostro piano». I sentimenti e il cuore dell’uomo sono un abisso.

They devise injustices, saying, “We are ready with a well-conceived plot”; For the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep.

7 M a Dio scaglierà le sue frecce contro di loro, e all’improvviso saranno coperti di ferite;

But God will shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they will be wounded.

8 s aranno abbattuti, e il male causato dalle proprie lingue ricadrà su di loro. Chiunque li vedrà scrollerà il capo.

So they will make him stumble; Their own tongue is against them; All who see them will shake the head.

9 A llora tutti gli uomini temeranno, racconteranno l’opera di Dio e comprenderanno ciò che egli ha fatto.

Then all men will fear, And they will declare the work of God, And will consider what He has done.

10 I l giusto esulterà nel Signore e cercherà rifugio in lui; tutti i retti di cuore si glorieranno.

The righteous man will be glad in the Lord and will take refuge in Him; And all the upright in heart will glory.
