1 O ra, fratelli, circa la venuta del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo e il nostro incontro con lui, vi preghiamo

Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,

2 d i non lasciarvi così presto sconvolgere la mente, né turbare sia da pretese ispirazioni, sia da discorsi, sia da qualche lettera data come nostra, come se il giorno del Signore fosse già presente.

that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

3 N essuno vi inganni in alcun modo; poiché quel giorno non verrà se prima non sia venuta l’apostasia e non sia stato manifestato l’uomo del peccato, il figlio della perdizione,

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,

4 l ’avversario, colui che s’innalza sopra tutto ciò che è chiamato Dio od oggetto di culto; fino al punto da porsi a sedere nel tempio di Dio, mostrando se stesso e proclamandosi Dio.

who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

5 N on vi ricordate che quando ero ancora con voi vi dicevo queste cose?

Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?

6 O ra voi sapete ciò che lo trattiene affinché sia manifestato a suo tempo.

And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.

7 I nfatti il mistero dell’empietà è già in atto, soltanto c’è chi ora lo trattiene, finché sia tolto di mezzo.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

8 E allora sarà manifestato l’empio, che il Signore Gesù distruggerà con il soffio della sua bocca, e annienterà con l’apparizione della sua venuta.

Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;

9 L a venuta di quell’empio avrà luogo, per l’azione efficace di Satana, con ogni sorta di opere potenti, di segni e di prodigi bugiardi,

that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,

10 c on ogni tipo d’inganno e d’iniquità a danno di quelli che periscono perché non hanno aperto il cuore all’amore della verità per essere salvati.

and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.

11 P erciò Dio manda loro una potenza d’errore perché credano alla menzogna;

For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,

12 a ffinché tutti quelli che non hanno creduto alla verità, ma si sono compiaciuti nell’iniquità, siano giudicati. Esortazione alla fermezza, alla preghiera e al lavoro

in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.

13 M a noi dobbiamo sempre ringraziare Dio per voi, fratelli amati dal Signore, perché Dio fin dal principio vi ha eletti a salvezza mediante la santificazione nello Spirito e la fede nella verità.

But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

14 A questo egli vi ha pure chiamati per mezzo del nostro vangelo, affinché otteniate la gloria del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.

It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 C osì dunque, fratelli, state saldi e ritenete gli insegnamenti che vi abbiamo trasmessi sia con la parola, sia con una nostra lettera.

So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.

16 O ra lo stesso Signore nostro Gesù Cristo e Dio nostro Padre, che ci ha amati e ci ha dato per la sua grazia una consolazione eterna e una buona speranza,

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,

17 c onsoli i vostri cuori e vi confermi in ogni opera buona e in ogni buona parola.

comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
