1 D io ha vivificato anche voi, voi che eravate morti nelle vostre colpe e nei vostri peccati,

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

2 a i quali un tempo vi abbandonaste seguendo l’andazzo di questo mondo, seguendo il principe della potenza dell’aria, di quello spirito che opera oggi negli uomini ribelli.

in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.

3 N el numero dei quali anche noi tutti vivevamo un tempo, secondo i desideri della nostra carne, ubbidendo alle voglie della carne e dei nostri pensieri; ed eravamo per natura figli d’ira, come gli altri.

Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

4 M a Dio, che è ricco in misericordia, per il grande amore con cui ci ha amati,

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

5 a nche quando eravamo morti nei peccati, ci ha vivificati con Cristo (è per grazia che siete stati salvati),

even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ ( by grace you have been saved),

6 e ci ha risuscitati con lui e con lui ci ha fatti sedere nei luoghi celesti in Cristo Gesù,

and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

7 p er mostrare nei tempi futuri l’immensa ricchezza della sua grazia, mediante la bontà che egli ha avuta per noi in Cristo Gesù.

so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

8 I nfatti è per grazia che siete stati salvati, mediante la fede; e ciò non viene da voi: è il dono di Dio.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

9 N on è in virtù di opere affinché nessuno se ne vanti;

not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

10 i nfatti siamo opera sua, essendo stati creati in Cristo Gesù per fare le opere buone, che Dio ha precedentemente preparate affinché le pratichiamo. Giudei e stranieri uniti in Cristo

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

11 P erciò, ricordatevi che un tempo voi, stranieri di nascita, chiamati incirconcisi da quelli che si dicono circoncisi, perché tali sono nella carne per mano d’uomo, voi, dico,

Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called “ Uncircumcision” by the so-called “ Circumcision,” which is performed in the flesh by human hands—

12 r icordatevi che in quel tempo eravate senza Cristo, esclusi dalla cittadinanza d’Israele ed estranei ai patti della promessa, senza speranza e senza Dio nel mondo.

remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

13 M a ora, in Cristo Gesù, voi che allora eravate lontani siete stati avvicinati mediante il sangue di Cristo.

But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

14 L ui, infatti, è la nostra pace; lui, che dei due popoli ne ha fatto uno solo e ha abbattuto il muro di separazione, abolendo nel suo corpo terreno la causa dell’inimicizia,

For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,

15 l a legge fatta di comandamenti in forma di precetti, per creare in se stesso, dei due, un solo uomo nuovo facendo la pace;

by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,

16 e per riconciliarli tutti e due con Dio in un corpo unico mediante la croce, sulla quale fece morire l’inimicizia.

and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.

17 C on la sua venuta ha annunciato la pace a voi che eravate lontani e la pace a quelli che erano vicini;

And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near;

18 p erché per mezzo di lui abbiamo gli uni e gli altri accesso al Padre in un medesimo Spirito.

for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.

19 C osì dunque non siete più né stranieri né ospiti; ma siete concittadini dei santi e membri della famiglia di Dio.

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household,

20 S iete stati edificati sul fondamento degli apostoli e dei profeti, essendo Cristo Gesù stesso la pietra angolare,

having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,

21 s ulla quale l’edificio intero, ben collegato insieme, si va innalzando per essere un tempio santo nel Signore.

in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord,

22 I n lui voi pure entrate a far parte dell’edificio che ha da servire come dimora a Dio per mezzo dello Spirito.

in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
