1 T he proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish son is a grief to his mother.

Притчи Соломона. Сын мудрый радует отца, а сын глупый--огорчение для его матери.

2 I ll-gotten gains do not profit, But righteousness delivers from death.

Не доставляют пользы сокровища неправедные, правда же избавляет от смерти.

3 T he Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger, But He will reject the craving of the wicked.

Не допустит Господь терпеть голод душе праведного, стяжание же нечестивых исторгнет.

4 P oor is he who works with a negligent hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.

Ленивая рука делает бедным, а рука прилежных обогащает.

5 H e who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.

Собирающий во время лета--сын разумный, спящий же во время жатвы--сын беспутный.

6 B lessings are on the head of the righteous, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

Благословения--на голове праведника, уста же беззаконных заградит насилие.

7 T he memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot.

Память праведника пребудет благословенна, а имя нечестивых омерзеет.

8 T he wise of heart will receive commands, But a babbling fool will be ruined.

Мудрый сердцем принимает заповеди, а глупый устами преткнется.

9 H e who walks in integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will be found out.

Кто ходит в непорочности, тот ходит безопасно; а кто превращает пути свои, тот будет наказан.

10 H e who winks the eye causes trouble, And a babbling fool will be ruined.

Кто мигает глазами, тот причиняет досаду, а глупый устами преткнется.

11 T he mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

Уста праведника--источник жизни, уста же беззаконных заградит насилие.

12 H atred stirs up strife, But love covers all transgressions.

Ненависть возбуждает раздоры, но любовь покрывает все грехи.

13 O n the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found, But a rod is for the back of him who lacks understanding.

В устах разумного находится мудрость, но на теле глупого--розга.

14 W ise men store up knowledge, But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.

Мудрые сберегают знание, но уста глупого--близкая погибель.

15 T he rich man’s wealth is his fortress, The ruin of the poor is their poverty.

Имущество богатого--крепкий город его, беда для бедных--скудость их.

16 T he wages of the righteous is life, The income of the wicked, punishment.

Труды праведного--к жизни, успех нечестивого--ко греху.

17 H e is on the path of life who heeds instruction, But he who ignores reproof goes astray.

Кто хранит наставление, тот на пути к жизни; а отвергающий обличение--блуждает.

18 H e who conceals hatred has lying lips, And he who spreads slander is a fool.

Кто скрывает ненависть, у того уста лживые; и кто разглашает клевету, тот глуп.

19 W hen there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

При многословии не миновать греха, а сдерживающий уста свои--разумен.

20 T he tongue of the righteous is as choice silver, The heart of the wicked is worth little.

Отборное серебро--язык праведного, сердце же нечестивых--ничтожество.

21 T he lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of understanding.

Уста праведного пасут многих, а глупые умирают от недостатка разума.

22 I t is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it.

Благословение Господне--оно обогащает и печали с собою не приносит.

23 D oing wickedness is like sport to a fool, And so is wisdom to a man of understanding.

Для глупого преступное деяние как бы забава, а человеку разумному свойственна мудрость.

24 W hat the wicked fears will come upon him, But the desire of the righteous will be granted.

Чего страшится нечестивый, то и постигнет его, а желание праведников исполнится.

25 W hen the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.

Как проносится вихрь, нет более нечестивого; а праведник--на вечном основании.

26 L ike vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy one to those who send him.

Что уксус для зубов и дым для глаз, то ленивый для посылающих его.

27 T he fear of the Lord prolongs life, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.

Страх Господень прибавляет дней, лета же нечестивых сократятся.

28 T he hope of the righteous is gladness, But the expectation of the wicked perishes.

Ожидание праведников--радость, а надежда нечестивых погибнет.

29 T he way of the Lord is a stronghold to the upright, But ruin to the workers of iniquity.

Путь Господень--твердыня для непорочного и страх для делающих беззаконие.

30 T he righteous will never be shaken, But the wicked will not dwell in the land.

Праведник во веки не поколеблется, нечестивые же не поживут на земле.

31 T he mouth of the righteous flows with wisdom, But the perverted tongue will be cut out.

Уста праведника источают мудрость, а язык зловредный отсечется.

32 T he lips of the righteous bring forth what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverted.

Уста праведного знают благоприятное, а уста нечестивых--развращенное.
