If it had not been the Lord Who was on our side—now may Israel say—

2 H addaan Rabbigu inala jirin, Markii dadku inagu kacay,

If it had not been the Lord Who was on our side when men rose up against us,

3 K olkaasay innagoo noolnool ina wada liqliqi lahaayeen, Markay aad inoogu cadhoodeen,

Then they would have quickly swallowed us up alive when their wrath was kindled against us;

4 K olkaasay biyuhu ina qarqin lahaayeen, Durdurna nafteennuu dul mari lahaa,

Then the waters would have overwhelmed us and swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us;

5 O o kolkaasay biyaha kibirsanu nafteenna dul mari lahaayeen.

Then the proud waters would have gone over us.

6 W axaa mahad leh Rabbiga Aan inaga dhigin ugaadh ilkahoodu ay qabsadaan.

Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us as prey to their teeth!

7 N afteennu waxay u baxsatay sida shimbir uga baxsato dabinka shimbirrodabtaha, Dabinkii wuu go'ay, innaguna waynu baxsannay.

We are like a bird escaped from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped!

8 C aawimaaddeennu waxay ku jirtaa magaca Rabbiga Sameeyey samada iyo dhulkaba.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
