The burden or oracle (the thing to be lifted up) concerning Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum of Elkosh.

2 D ios celoso y vengador es Jehová; vengador es Jehová, y Señor de ira; Jehová, que se venga de sus adversarios, y que guarda enojo para sus enemigos.

The Lord is a jealous God and avenging; the Lord avenges and He is full of wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries and reserves wrath for His enemies.

3 J ehová es tardo para la ira, y grande en poder, y no tendrá al culpado por inocente. Jehová marcha entre la tempestad y turbión, y las nubes son el polvo de sus pies.

The Lord is slow to anger and great in power and will by no means clear the guilty. The Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

4 E l amenaza á la mar, y la hace secar, y agosta todos los ríos: Basán fué destruído, y el Carmelo, y la flor del Líbano fué destruída.

He rebukes and threatens the sea and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Mount Carmel wither, and the blossom of Lebanon fades.

5 L os montes tiemblan de él, y los collados se deslíen; y la tierra se abrasa á su presencia, y el mundo, y todos los que en él habitan.

The mountains tremble and quake before Him and the hills melt away, and the earth is upheaved at His presence—yes, the world and all that dwell in it.

6 ¿ Quién permanecerá delante de su ira? ¿y quién quedará en pié en el furor de su enojo? Su ira se derrama como fuego, y por él se hienden las peñas.

Who can stand before His indignation? And who can stand up and endure the fierceness of His anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by Him.

7 B ueno es Jehová para fortaleza en el día de la angustia; y conoce á los que en él confían.

The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows (recognizes, has knowledge of, and understands) those who take refuge and trust in Him.

8 M as con inundación impetuosa hará consumación de su lugar, y tinieblas perseguirán á sus enemigos.

But with an overrunning flood He will make a full end of site and pursue His enemies into darkness.

9 ¿ Qué pensáis contra Jehová? El hará consumación: la tribulación no se levantará dos veces.

What do you devise and plot against the Lord? He will make a full end; affliction shall not rise up the second time.

10 P orque como espinas entretegidas, mientras se embriagarán los borrachos, serán consumidos como las estopas llenas de sequedad.

For are as bundles of thorn branches, and even while drowned in their drunken they shall be consumed like stubble fully dry.

11 D e ti salió el que pensó mal contra Jehová, un consultor impío.

There is one gone forth out of you who plots evil against the Lord, a villainous counselor.

12 A sí ha dicho Jehová: Aunque reposo tengan, y sean tantos, así serán talados, y él pasará. Bien que te he afligido, no más te afligiré.

Thus says the Lord: Though they be in full strength and likewise many, even so shall be cut down when shall pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will not cause you to be afflicted any more.

13 P orque ahora quebraré su yugo de sobre ti, y romperé tus coyundas.

For now will I break his yoke from off you and will burst your bonds asunder.

14 M as acerca de ti mandará Jehová, que nunca más sea sembrado alguno de tu nombre: de la casa de tu dios talaré escultura y estatua de fundición, haréla tu sepulcro; porque fuiste vil.

And the Lord has given a commandment concerning you, that no more of your name shall be born nor shall your name be perpetuated. Out of the house of your gods I will cut off the graven and molten images; I will make your tomb, for you are vile and despised.

15 H e aquí sobre los montes los pies del que trae buenas nuevas, del que pregona la paz. Celebra, oh Judá, tus fiestas, cumple tus votos: porque nunca más pasará por ti el malvado; pereció del todo.

Behold! upon the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace! Celebrate your feasts, O Judah; perform your vows. For the wicked counselor shall no more come against you or pass through your land; he is utterly cut off.
