1 B ut now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

En verdad, la fuerza de sus manos ¿de qué me servía? Había desaparecido de ellos el vigor.

3 F or want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.

De miseria y hambre estaban extenuados; roían la tierra seca de noche en desierto y desolación;

4 W ho cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat.

arrancaban malvas junto a los matorrales, y raíz de retama era su alimento.

5 T hey were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)

De la comunidad fueron expulsados, gritaban contra ellos como contra un ladrón.

6 T o dwell in the cliffs of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.

Moraban en valles de terror, en las cuevas de la tierra y de las peñas.

7 A mong the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.

Entre los matorrales clamaban; bajo las ortigas se reunían.

8 T hey were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.

Necios, sí, hijos sin nombre, echados a latigazos de la tierra.

9 A nd now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.

Y ahora he venido a ser su escarnio, y soy para ellos refrán.

10 T hey abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.

Me aborrecen y se alejan de mí, y no se retraen de escupirme a la cara.

11 B ecause he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.

Por cuanto El ha aflojado la cuerda de su arco y me ha afligido, se han quitado el freno delante de mí.

12 U pon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

A mi derecha se levanta el populacho, arrojan lazos a mis pies y preparan contra mí sus caminos de destrucción.

13 T hey mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.

Arruinan mi senda, a causa de mi destrucción se benefician, nadie los detiene.

14 T hey came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.

Como por ancha brecha vienen, en medio de la tempestad siguen rodando.

15 T errors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.

Contra mí se vuelven los terrores, como el viento persiguen mi honor, y como nube se ha disipado mi prosperidad.

16 A nd now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.

Y ahora en mí se derrama mi alma; días de aflicción se han apoderado de mí.

17 M y bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.

De noche El traspasa mis huesos dentro de mí, y los dolores que me corroen no descansan.

18 B y the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.

Una gran fuerza deforma mi vestidura, me aprieta como el cuello de mi túnica.

19 H e hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.

El me ha arrojado al lodo, y soy como el polvo y la ceniza.

20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.

Clamo a ti, y no me respondes; me pongo en pie, y no me prestas atención.

21 T hou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.

Te has vuelto cruel conmigo, con el poder de tu mano me persigues.

22 T hou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.

Me alzas al viento, me haces cabalgar en él, y me deshaces en la tempestad.

23 F or I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

Pues sé que a la muerte me llevarás, a la casa de reunión de todos los vivientes.

24 H owbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.

Sin embargo ¿no extiende la mano el que está en un montón de ruinas, cuando clama en su calamidad ?

25 D id not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?

¿No he llorado por aquél cuya vida es difícil ? ¿No se angustió mi alma por el necesitado ?

26 W hen I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.

Cuando esperaba yo el bien, vino el mal, cuando esperaba la luz, vino la oscuridad.

27 M y bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.

Por dentro me hierven las entrañas, y no puedo descansar; me vienen al encuentro días de aflicción.

28 I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.

Ando enlutado, sin consuelo; me levanto en la asamblea y clamo.

29 I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.

He venido a ser hermano de chacales y compañero de avestruces.

30 M y skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.

Mi piel se ennegrece sobre mí, y mis huesos se queman por la fiebre.

31 M y harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.

Se ha convertido en duelo mi arpa, y mi flauta en voz de los que lloran.
