1 T hen said the high priest, Are these things so?

Y el sumo sacerdote dijo: ¿Es esto así?

2 A nd he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

Y él dijo: Escuchad me, hermanos y padres. El Dios de gloria apareció a nuestro padre Abraham cuando estaba en Mesopotamia, antes que habitara en Harán,

3 A nd said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

y le dijo: “ Sal de tu tierra y de tu parentela, y ve a la tierra que yo te mostrare.”

4 T hen came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

Entonces él salió de la tierra de los caldeos y se radicó en Harán. Y de allí, después de la muerte de su padre, Dios lo trasladó a esta tierra en la cual ahora vosotros habitáis.

5 A nd he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

No le dio en ella heredad, ni siquiera la medida de la planta del pie, y sin embargo, aunque no tenía hijo, prometió que se la daria en posesion a el y a su descendencia despues de el.

6 A nd God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

Y Dios dijo así: “ Que sus descendientes serian extranjeros en una tierra extraña, y que serian esclavizados y maltratados por cuatrocientos años.

7 A nd the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.

“ Pero yo mismo juzgare a cualquier nacion de la cual sean esclavos ” —dijo Dios— “ y despues de eso saldran y me serviran en este lugar.”

8 A nd he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.

Y Dios le dio el pacto de la circuncisión; y así Abraham vino a ser el padre de Isaac, y lo circuncidó al octavo día; e Isaac vino a ser el padre de Jacob, y Jacob de los doce patriarcas.

9 A nd the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

Y los patriarcas tuvieron envidia de José y lo vendieron para Egipto. Pero Dios estaba con él,

10 A nd delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

y lo rescató de todas sus aflicciones, y le dio gracia y sabiduría delante de Faraón, rey de Egipto, y éste lo puso por gobernador sobre Egipto y sobre toda su casa.

11 N ow there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

Entonces vino hambre sobre todo Egipto y Canaán, y con ella gran aflicción; y nuestros padres no hallaban alimentos.

12 B ut when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

Pero cuando Jacob supo que había grano en Egipto, envió a nuestros padres allá la primera vez.

13 A nd at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

En la segunda visita, José se dio a conocer a sus hermanos, y conoció Faraón el linaje de José.

14 T hen sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.

Y José, enviando mensaje, mandó llamar a Jacob su padre y a toda su parentela, en total setenta y cinco personas.

15 S o Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,

Y Jacob descendió a Egipto, y allí murió él y también nuestros padres.

16 A nd were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.

Y de allí fueron trasladados a Siquem, y puestos en el sepulcro que por una suma de dinero había comprado Abraham a los hijos de Hamor en Siquem.

17 B ut when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

Pero a medida que se acercaba el tiempo de la promesa que Dios había confirmado a Abraham, el pueblo crecía y se multiplicaba en Egipto,

18 T ill another king arose, which knew not Joseph.

hasta que surgio otro rey en Egipto que no sabia nada de Jose.

19 T he same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

Este rey, obrando con astucia contra nuestro pueblo, maltrató a nuestros padres, a fin de que expusieran a la muerte a sus niños para que no vivieran.

20 I n which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:

Fue por ese tiempo que Moisés nació. Era hermoso a la vista de Dios, y fue criado por tres meses en la casa de su padre.

21 A nd when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.

Después de ser abandonado para morir, la hija de Faraón se lo llevó y lo crió como su propio hijo.

22 A nd Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

Y Moisés fue instruido en toda la sabiduría de los egipcios, y era un hombre poderoso en palabras y en hechos.

23 A nd when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.

Pero cuando iba a cumplir la edad de cuarenta años, sintió en su corazón el deseo de visitar a sus hermanos, los hijos de Israel.

24 A nd seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:

Y al ver que uno de ellos era tratado injustamente, lo defendió y vengó al oprimido matando al egipcio.

25 F or he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

Pensaba que sus hermanos entendían que Dios les estaba dando libertad por medio de él, pero ellos no entendieron.

26 A nd the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?

Al día siguiente se les presentó, cuando dos de ellos reñían, y trató de poner paz entre ellos, diciendo: “Varones, vosotros sois hermanos, ¿por qué os herís el uno al otro ?”

27 B ut he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

Pero el que estaba hiriendo a su prójimo lo empujó, diciendo: “¿ Quien te ha puesto por gobernante y juez sobre nosotros ?

28 W ilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?

“¿ Acaso quieres matarme como mataste ayer al egipcio ?”

29 T hen fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.

Al oír estas palabras, Moises huyo y se convirtio en extranjero en la tierra de Madian, donde fue padre de dos hijos.

30 A nd when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

Y pasados cuarenta años, se le aparecio un angel en el desierto del monte Sinaí, en la llama de una zarza que ardia.

31 W hen Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,

Al ver esto, Moisés se maravillaba de la visión, y al acercarse para ver mejor, vino a él la voz del Señor:

32 S aying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

“ Yo soy el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Jacob.” Moisés temblando, no se atrevía a mirar.

33 T hen said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.

Pero el Señor le dijo: “Quitate las sandalias de los pies, porque el lugar donde estas es tierra santa.

34 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.

“ Ciertamente he visto la opresion de mi pueblo en Egipto y he oido sus gemidos, y he descendido para librarlos; ven ahora y te enviare a Egipto.”

35 T his Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

Este Moisés, a quien ellos rechazaron, diciendo: “¿ Quien te ha puesto por gobernante y juez ?” es el mismo que Dios envió para ser gobernante y libertador con la ayuda del ángel que se le apareció en la zarza.

36 H e brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

Este hombre los sacó, haciendo prodigios y señales en la tierra de Egipto, en el mar Rojo y en el desierto por cuarenta años.

37 T his is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.

Este es el mismo Moisés que dijo a los hijos de Israel: “ Dios os levantara un profeta como yo de entre vuestros hermanos.”

38 T his is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

Este es el que estaba en la congregación en el desierto junto con el ángel que le hablaba en el monte Sinaí, y con nuestros padres, y el que recibió palabras de vida para transmitirlas a vosotros;

39 T o whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

al cual nuestros padres no quisieron obedecer, sino que lo repudiaron, y en sus corazones regresaron a Egipto,

40 S aying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

diciendo a Aaron: “Haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros, porque a este Moises que nos saco de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos lo que le haya pasado.”

41 A nd they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

En aquellos días hicieron un becerro y ofrecieron sacrificio al ídolo, y se regocijaban en las obras de sus manos.

42 T hen God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?

Pero Dios se apartó de ellos y los entregó para que sirvieran al ejército del cielo, como está escrito en el libro de los profetas: ¿ Acaso fue a mi a quien ofrecisteis victimas y sacrificios en el desierto por cuarenta años, casa de Israel ?

43 Y ea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

Tambien llevasteis el tabernaculo de Moloc, y la estrella del dios Renfan, las imagenes que hicisteis para adorarlas. Yo tambien os deportare mas alla de Babilonia.

44 O ur fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.

Nuestros padres tuvieron el tabernáculo del testimonio en el desierto, tal como le había ordenado que lo hiciera Aquél que habló a Moisés, conforme al modelo que había visto.

45 W hich also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

A su vez, habiéndolo recibido, nuestros padres lo introdujeron con Josué al tomar posesión de las naciones que Dios arrojó de delante de nuestros padres, hasta los días de David.

46 W ho found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

Y David halló gracia delante de Dios, y pidió el favor de hallar una morada para el Dios de Jacob.

47 B ut Solomon built him an house.

Pero fue Salomón quien le edificó una casa.

48 H owbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

Sin embargo, el Altísimo no habita en casas hechas por manos de hombres; como dice el profeta:

49 H eaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?

El cielo es mi trono, y la tierra el estrado de mis pies; ¿ que casa me edificareis ? —dice el Señor— ¿ O cual es el lugar de mi reposo ?

50 H ath not my hand made all these things?

¿ No fue mi mano la que hizo todas estas cosas ?

51 Y e stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

Vosotros, que sois duros de cerviz e incircuncisos de corazón y de oídos, resistís siempre al Espíritu Santo; como hicieron vuestros padres, así también hacéis vosotros.

52 W hich of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:

¿A cuál de los profetas no persiguieron vuestros padres ? Ellos mataron a los que antes habían anunciado la venida del Justo, del cual ahora vosotros os hicisteis traidores y asesinos;

53 W ho have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

vosotros que recibisteis la ley por disposición de ángeles y sin embargo no la guardasteis. Martirio de Esteban

54 W hen they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

Al oír esto, se sintieron profundamente ofendidos, y crujían los dientes contra él.

55 B ut he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

Pero Esteban, lleno del Espíritu Santo, fijos los ojos en el cielo, vio la gloria de Dios y a Jesús de pie a la diestra de Dios;

56 A nd said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

y dijo: He aquí, veo los cielos abiertos, y al Hijo del Hombre de pie a la diestra de Dios.

57 T hen they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

Entonces ellos gritaron a gran voz, y tapándose los oídos arremetieron a una contra él.

58 A nd cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.

Y echándolo fuera de la ciudad, comenzaron a apedrearle; y los testigos pusieron sus mantos a los pies de un joven llamado Saulo.

59 A nd they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

Y mientras apedreaban a Esteban, él invocaba al Señor y decía: Señor Jesús, recibe mi espíritu.

60 A nd he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Y cayendo de rodillas, clamó en alta voz: Señor, no les tomes en cuenta este pecado. Habiendo dicho esto, durmió.
