1 H ijo mío, si recibes mis palabras, y atesoras mis mandamientos dentro de ti,

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up my commandments with thee;

2 d a oído a la sabiduría, inclina tu corazón al entendimiento;

So as to incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thy heart to understanding;

3 p orque si clamas a la inteligencia, y alzas tu voz al entendimiento,

Yea, if thou cry after discernment, And lift up thy voice for understanding;

4 s i la buscas como a plata, y la procuras como a tesoros escondidos,

If thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures:

5 e ntonces entenderás el temor del Señor, y descubrirás el conocimiento de Dios.

Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God.

6 P orque el Señor da sabiduría, de su boca vienen el conocimiento y la inteligencia.

For Jehovah giveth wisdom; Out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding:

7 E l reserva la prosperidad para los rectos, es escudo para los que andan en integridad,

He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to them that walk in integrity;

8 g uarda las sendas del juicio, y preserva el camino de sus santos.

That he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his saints.

9 E ntonces discernirás justicia y juicio, equidad y todo buen sendero;

Then shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, And equity, yea, every good path.

10 p orque la sabiduría entrará en tu corazón, y el conocimiento será grato a tu alma;

For wisdom shall enter into thy heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul;

11 l a discreción velará sobre ti, el entendimiento te protegerá,

Discretion shall watch over thee; Understanding shall keep thee:

12 p ara librarte de la senda del mal, del hombre que habla cosas perversas;

To deliver thee from the way of evil, From the men that speak perverse things;

13 d e los que dejan las sendas de rectitud, para andar por los caminos tenebrosos;

Who forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness;

14 d e los que se deleitan en hacer el mal, y se regocijan en las perversidades del mal,

Who rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil;

15 c uyas sendas son torcidas, y se extravían en sus senderos.

Who are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths:

16 E lla te librará de la mujer extraña, de la desconocida que lisonjea con sus palabras,

To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flattereth with her words;

17 l a cual deja al compañero de su juventud, y olvida el pacto de su Dios;

That forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God:

18 p orque su casa se inclina hacia la muerte, y sus senderos hacia los muertos;

For her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead;

19 t odos los que a ella van, no vuelven, ni alcanzan las sendas de la vida.

None that go unto her return again, Neither do they attain unto the paths of life:

20 P or tanto andarás en el camino de los buenos, y guardarás las sendas de los justos;

That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous.

21 p orque los rectos morarán en la tierra, y los íntegros permanecerán en ella;

For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it.

22 p ero los impíos serán cortados de la tierra, y los pérfidos serán desarraigados de ella.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.
