1 E n aquellos días llegó Juan el Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judea, diciendo:

And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying,

2 A rrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.

Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

3 P orque este es aquel a quien se refirió el profeta Isaías, diciendo: Voz del que clama en el desierto: “ Preparad el camino del Señor, haced derechas sus sendas.”

For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.

4 Y él, Juan, tenía un vestido de pelo de camello y un cinto de cuero a la cintura; y su comida era de langostas y miel silvestre.

Now John himself had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

5 A cudía entonces a él Jerusalén, toda Judea y toda la región alrededor del Jordán;

Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about the Jordan;

6 y confesando sus pecados, eran bautizados por él en el río Jordán.

and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

7 P ero cuando vio que muchos de los fariseos y saduceos venían para el bautismo, les dijo: ¡Camada de víboras! ¿Quién os enseñó a huir de la ira que vendrá ?

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 P or tanto, dad frutos dignos de arrepentimiento;

Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:

9 y no presumáis que podéis deciros a vosotros mismos: “Tenemos a Abraham por padre ”, porque os digo que Dios puede levantar hijos a Abraham de estas piedras.

and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10 Y el hacha ya está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; por tanto, todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado al fuego.

And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

11 Y o a la verdad os bautizo con agua para arrepentimiento, pero el que viene detrás de mí es más poderoso que yo, a quien no soy digno de quitarle las sandalias; El os bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego.

I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:

12 E l bieldo está en su mano y limpiará completamente su era; y recogerá su trigo en el granero, pero quemará la paja en fuego inextinguible. Bautismo de Jesús

whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

13 E ntonces Jesús llegó de Galilea al Jordán, a donde estaba Juan, para ser bautizado por él.

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 P ero Juan trató de impedírselo, diciendo: Yo necesito ser bautizado por ti, ¿y tú vienes a mí?

But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 Y respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Permíte lo ahora; porque es conveniente que cumplamos así toda justicia. Entonces Juan se lo permitió.

But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.

16 D espués de ser bautizado, Jesús salió del agua inmediatamente; y he aquí, los cielos se abrieron, y él vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como una paloma y venía sobre El.

And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;

17 Y he aquí, se oyó una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado en quien me he complacido.

and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
