A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2 L imba înţelepţilor foloseşte corect cunoştinţa, dar gura proştilor împroaşcă nebunie.

The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

3 O chii Domnului sunt în orice loc, supraveghindu-i atât pe cei răi, cât şi pe cei buni.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4 L imba care aduce însănătoşire este un pom de viaţă, dar limba stricată zdrobeşte duhul.

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

5 P rostul dispreţuieşte învăţătura tatălui său, dar cine primeşte mustrarea este înţelept.

A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

6 Î n casa celui drept este mare bogăţie, dar câştigul celor răi le aduce necaz.

In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

7 B uzele celor înţelepţi răspândesc cunoştinţă, nu tot aşa face şi inima proştilor.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

8 J ertfa celor răi este o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar rugăciunea celor drepţi Îi este plăcută.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9 C alea celor răi este o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar El îi iubeşte pe cei ce urmăresc dreptatea.

The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

10 O disciplinare severă îl aşteaptă pe cel ce părăseşte cărarea, iar cine dispreţuieşte mustrarea va muri.

Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

11 L ocuinţa Morţilor şi Locul Nimicirii sunt înaintea Domnului; cu cât mai mult inimile fiilor oamenilor!

Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

12 B atjocoritorului nu-i place să fie mustrat; de aceea nu va merge la cei înţelepţi.

A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

13 O inimă veselă înseninează faţa, dar, prin îndurerarea inimii, duhul este zdrobit.

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

14 I nima celor pricepuţi caută cunoştinţă, dar gura celor proşti se hrăneşte cu prostie.

The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

15 T oate zilele celui nenorocit sunt rele, dar cel cu inima voioasă are parte de un ospăţ necurmat.

All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

16 M ai bine puţin, dar cu frică de Domnul, decât o mare bogăţie cu tulburare.

Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 M ai bine o mâncare de legume unde este dragoste, decât un bou îngrăşat unde este ură.

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

18 O mul iute la mânie provoacă certuri, dar cel încet la mânie potoleşte cearta.

A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19 D rumul leneşului este ca o barieră de spini, dar cărarea celor drepţi este netezită.

The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

20 U n fiu înţelept aduce bucurie tatălui său, dar omul prost îşi dispreţuieşte mama.

A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

21 P rostia este o bucurie pentru cel fără minte, dar omul priceput păstrează drumul drept.

Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

22 F ără sfat planurile dau greş, dar ele reuşesc când sunt mulţi sfetnici.

Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 P entru un om este o bucurie să dea un răspuns iscusit şi ce bună este o vorbă spusă la timpul potrivit!

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 P entru cel înţelept cărarea vieţii duce în sus, ca să-l abată de la Locuinţa Morţilor, care este jos.

The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

25 D omnul distruge casa celor mândri, dar întăreşte hotarele văduvei.

The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

26 G ândurile rele sunt o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar cuvintele plăcute sunt curate.

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

27 C el lacom de câştig aduce necaz asupra familiei lui, dar cel ce urăşte mita va trăi.

He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

28 I nima celui drept cântăreşte răspunsurile, dar gura celor răi împroaşcă lucruri rele.

The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

29 D omnul este departe de cei răi, dar ascultă rugăciunea celor drepţi.

The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

30 O privire voioasă înveseleşte inima şi veştile bune dau sănătate oaselor.

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

31 C el ce ascultă mustrarea care duce la viaţă va locui printre înţelepţi.

The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 C ine ignoră corectarea se dispreţuieşte pe sine, dar cine ascultă mustrarea dobândeşte înţelepciune.

He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 F rica de Domnul îl învaţă pe om înţelepciunea, iar smerenia merge înaintea gloriei.

The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
