1 O chiul meu a văzut toate aceste lucruri, urechile mele au auzit şi au înţeles.

Lo, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ear hath heard and understood it.

2 C e ştiţi voi ştiu şi eu; nu sunt mai prejos decât voi.

What ye know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.

3 D ar vreau să vorbesc Celui Atotputernic, vreau să-mi apăr cauza înaintea lui Dumnezeu!

Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

4 V oi mă amăgiţi cu minciuni, toţi sunteţi nişte doctori de nimic.

But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.

5 M ai bine aţi fi tăcut! Aşa aţi fi arătat înţelepciune.

O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

6 A scultaţi-mi apărarea, ascultaţi răspunsul buzelor mele!

Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

7 V reţi să vorbiţi cu răutate în Numele lui Dumnezeu şi să spuneţi minciuni în favoarea Lui?

Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?

8 V reţi să-I ţineţi partea sau să fiţi apărători ai lui Dumnezeu?

Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?

9 V a fi oare bine de voi când vă va cerceta? Îl puteţi oare înşela aşa cum înşală un om pe un altul?

Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?

10 O are nu vă va mustra El, dacă încercaţi să-I ţineţi partea pe ascuns?

He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.

11 O are nu vă va înspăimânta măreţia Lui? Nu va cădea peste voi groaza Lui?

Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?

12 C ugetările voastre sunt proverbe de cenuşă, iar apărarea voastră e una de lut.

Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.

13 T ăceţi! şi vă voi vorbi; apoi fie ce-o fi!

Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

14 L a ce bun să-mi iau carnea în dinţi şi să-mi pun viaţa în propriile mâini?

Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?

15 C hiar dacă mă va ucide, tot voi nădăjdui în El. Da, îmi voi apăra căile înaintea feţei Lui.

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

16 C hiar şi lucrul acesta poate fi spre scăparea mea: ştiu că cei lipsiţi de evlavie nu pot ajunge înaintea Lui.

He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.

17 A scultaţi-mi cu atenţie cuvintele, luaţi aminte la ceea ce vreau să vă spun!

Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.

18 M i-am pregătit apărarea; ştiu că am dreptate.

Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.

19 C ine poate să mă acuze? Dacă va face cineva lucrul acesta, atunci voi tăcea şi voi muri.

Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.

20 D umnezeule, dă-mi doar două lucruri şi nu mă voi ascunde de faţa Ta:

Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from thee.

21 r idică-Ţi mâna de pe mine şi nu mai lăsa groaza Ta să mă înspăimânte.

Withdraw thine hand far from me: and let not thy dread make me afraid.

22 A poi cheamă-mă şi-Ţi voi răspunde sau lasă-mă să vorbesc şi răspunde-mi Tu.

Then call thou, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer thou me.

23 C ât de multe sunt nelegiuirile şi păcatele mele? Arată-mi fărădelegile şi păcatul meu!

How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.

24 D e ce-Ţi ascunzi faţa şi mă consideri un duşman?

Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?

25 V rei să înspăimânţi o frunză suflată de vânt şi să urmăreşti un pai uscat?

Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?

26 C ăci scrii lucruri amare împotriva mea şi mă faci să moştenesc păcatele tinereţii mele.

For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth.

27 Î mi pui picioarele în butuci, îmi urmăreşti toate căile şi pui hotar paşilor mei.

Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.

28 Î n felul acesta trupul mi se destramă ca un lucru putred, ca o haină mâncată de molii.

And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.
