1 D omnul a avut grijă de Sara, după cum a spus şi a făcut pentru ea ceea ce a promis.

And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

2 S ara a rămas însărcinată şi i-a născut lui Avraam un fiu la bătrâneţe, la vremea la care Dumnezeu îi spusese.

For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3 A vraam i-a pus fiului său, pe care i-l născuse Sara, numele Isaac.

And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

4 A vraam l-a circumcis pe fiul său Isaac la vârsta de opt zile, aşa cum i-a poruncit Dumnezeu.

And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 A vraam avea o sută de ani când s-a născut fiul său Isaac.

And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

6 S ara a zis: „Dumnezeu m-a făcut să râd şi oricine va auzi despre acest lucru va râde împreună cu mine.

And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

7 C ine i-ar fi spus lui Avraam că Sara va alăpta copii? a continuat ea. Totuşi i-am născut un fiu la bătrâneţe.“ Alungarea lui Agar şi a lui Ismael

And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

8 C opilul a crescut şi a fost înţărcat. În ziua în care Isaac a fost înţărcat, Avraam a dat un ospăţ mare.

And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.

9 D ar Sara l-a văzut pe fiul egiptencei Agar, pe care aceasta i-l născuse lui Avraam, bătându-şi joc

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.

10 ş i i-a spus lui Avraam: „Alung-o pe această sclavă şi pe fiul ei, pentru că fiul acestei sclave nu va moşteni împreună cu fiul meu Isaac!“

Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

11 A cest lucru l-a tulburat mult pe Avraam, pentru că-l avea în vedere pe fiul său.

And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son.

12 D ar Dumnezeu i-a spus lui Avraam: „Nu fi tulburat din cauza băiatului şi a sclavei tale; ascult-o pe Sara în tot ce îţi spune, pentru că prin Isaac îşi va primi numele sămânţa ta.

And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

13 C ât despre fiul sclavei tale, îl voi face şi pe el un neam, pentru că şi el este urmaşul tău.“

And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

14 A vraam s-a sculat dis-de-dimineaţă, a luat nişte pâine şi un burduf cu apă şi i le-a dat lui Agar, punându-i-le pe umăr; i-a dat şi copilul şi a izgonit-o. Ea a plecat şi a rătăcit în pustia Beer-Şeba.

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

15 C ând apa din burduf s-a terminat, Agar a pus copilul sub unul dintre tufişuri,

And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

16 a poi s-a dus şi a şezut singură mai departe, ca la o aruncătură de arc, pentru că se gândea: „Să nu văd moartea copilului.“ Şezând acolo, ea a început să plângă.

And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.

17 D umnezeu a auzit glasul copilului, iar Îngerul lui Dumnezeu a strigat-o pe Agar din cer şi i-a zis: „Ce se întâmplă, Agar? Nu te teme, pentru că Dumnezeu a auzit glasul băiatului din locul în care este.

And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

18 S coală-te, ridică băiatul şi ţine-l de mână, pentru că voi face din el un neam mare.“

Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.

19 A poi Dumnezeu i-a deschis ochii, iar ea a văzut o fântână cu apă. S-a dus, a umplut burduful cu apă şi i-a dat băiatului să bea.

And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

20 D umnezeu a fost cu băiatul, iar el a crescut, a locuit în pustie şi a ajuns arcaş.

And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

21 A locuit în pustia Paran, iar mama lui i-a luat o soţie din ţara Egiptului. Legământul dintre Avraam şi Abimelek

And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 Î n vremea aceea, Abimelek, împreună cu Pihol, conducătorul oştirii sale, i-a spus lui Avraam: – Dumnezeu este cu tine în tot ceea ce faci;

And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest:

23 j ură-mi acum pe Dumnezeul tău că nu mă vei înşela nici pe mine, nici pe copiii mei, nici pe urmaşii mei, ci că, aşa cum eu am arătat bunăvoinţă faţă de tine, tot aşa vei arăta şi tu faţă de mine şi faţă de ţara în care locuieşti ca străin.

now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.

24 – Jur, i-a răspuns Avraam.

And Abraham said, I will swear.

25 D ar Avraam i s-a plâns lui Abimelek cu privire la o fântână cu apă, pe care slujitorii acestuia o luaseră în stăpânire.

And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away.

26 A bimelek i-a răspuns: „Nu ştiu cine a făcut acest lucru. Tu nu mi-ai spus, iar eu nu am auzit despre aceasta până acum.“

And Abimelech said, I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.

27 A tunci Avraam a luat oi şi boi şi i le-a dat lui Abimelek; apoi cei doi au încheiat un legământ.

And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

28 A vraam a pus deoparte şapte mieluşele din turmă,

And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 i ar Abimelek l-a întrebat: – Ce ai de gând să faci cu aceste şapte mieluşele pe care le-ai pus deoparte?

And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set by themselves?

30 – Primeşte-le ca o mărturie pentru mine că eu am săpat această fântână, i-a răspuns Avraam.

And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well.

31 D e aceea acel loc a fost numit Beer-Şeba, pentru că amândoi au depus acolo un jurământ.

Wherefore he called that place Beer-sheba; because there they sware both of them.

32 D upă ce au încheiat legământul la Beer-Şeba, Abimelek şi Pihol, conducătorul oştiri sale, s-au sculat şi s-au întors în ţara filistenilor.

Thus they made a covenant at Beer-sheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

33 A vraam a plantat un tamarisc în Beer-Şeba şi a chemat acolo Numele Domnului, Dumnezeul cel Veşnic.

And Abraham planted a grove in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God.

34 E l a locuit ca străin în ţara filistenilor multă vreme.

And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines’ land many days.
