2 P reaiubitule, mă rog să-ţi meargă bine în toate şi să fii sănătos, aşa cum îi merge bine sufletului tău.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 M -am bucurat mult când au venit fraţi şi au depus mărturie cu privire la credincioşia ta faţă de adevăr, şi anume despre cum umbli în adevăr.

For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

4 N u am bucurie mai mare decât aceasta: să aud despre copiii mei că umblă în adevăr.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

5 P reaiubitule, tu faci cu credincioşie ceea ce lucrezi pentru fraţi, şi chiar pentru străini.

Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

6 E i au depus mărturie înaintea bisericii cu privire la dragostea ta. Şi bine vei face să-i trimiţi mai departe în drumul lor, într-un mod vrednic de Dumnezeu.

which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

7 C ăci ei şi-au început călătoria de dragul Numelui Lui fără să primească nimic de la neamuri.

because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

8 N oi deci suntem datori să sprijinim astfel de oameni, ca să fim conlucrători cu adevărul.

We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

9 A m scris ceva bisericii, dar Diotrefus, căruia îi place să fie primul între ei, nu ne bagă în seamă.

I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

10 D e aceea, dacă vin, îi voi reaminti faptele pe care le face, căci ne discreditează prin vorbe rele. Şi nu se mulţumeşte doar cu acestea, dar nu-i primeşte nici pe fraţi, iar pe cei ce vor să facă lucrul acesta îi împiedică şi-i alungă din biserică.

Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

11 P reaiubitule, nu imita răul, ci binele. Cel ce face binele este din Dumnezeu. Cel ce face răul nu L-a văzut pe Dumnezeu.

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

12 T oţi depun o mărturie bună despre Demetrius, chiar şi adevărul. Dar şi noi depunem mărturie, şi ştii că mărturia noastră este adevărată.

Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

13 A veam multe să-ţi scriu, dar nu vreau să-ţi scriu cu cerneală şi condei,

I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

14 c i sper să te văd curând şi atunci vom vorbi gură către gură. Pace ţie! Prietenii de aici te salută. Salută-i pe prietenii de acolo, pe fiecare pe nume.

but I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
