2 N oi rendiamo del continuo grazie a Dio per tutti voi, facendo di voi menzione nelle nostre preghiere,

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you at our prayers,

3 r icordando continuamente la vostra opera di fede, la fatica del vostro amore e la costanza della speranza che voi avete nel Signore nostro Gesú Cristo davanti a Dio, nostro Padre,

remembering unceasingly your work of faith, and labour of love, and enduring constancy of hope, of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;

4 c onoscendo, fratelli amati da Dio, la vostra elezione,

knowing, brethren beloved by God, your election.

5 p erché il nostro evangelo non è giunto fino a voi soltanto a parole, ma anche con potenza e con lo Spirito Santo, e con molta convinzione; voi sapete come ci siamo comportati fra voi per amor vostro.

For our glad tidings were not with you in word only, but also in power, and in Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what we were among you for your sakes:

6 E voi siete divenuti nostri imitatori e del Signore, avendo ricevuta la parola in mezzo a tanta afflizione con la gioia dello Spirito Santo,

and ye became our imitators, and of the Lord, having accepted the word in much tribulation with joy of Holy Spirit,

7 c osí da divenire un esempio a tutti i credenti della Macedonia e dell'Acaia.

so that ye became models to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia:

8 I nfatti non solo la parola del Signore è tramite voi risuonata nella Macedonia e nell'Acaia, ma anche la vostra fede che avete verso Dio si è divulgata in ogni luogo, tanto che non abbiamo bisogno di parlarne,

for the word of the Lord sounded out from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith which towards God has gone abroad, so that we have no need to say anything;

9 p oiché essi stessi raccontano di noi, quale sia stata la nostra venuta tra voi e come vi siete convertiti dagli idoli a Dio, per servire al Dio vivente e vero,

for they themselves relate concerning us what entering in we had to you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,

10 e per aspettare dai cieli il suo Figlio, che egli ha risuscitato dai morti, cioè Gesú, che ci libera dall'ira a venire.

and to await his Son from the heavens, whom he raised from among the dead, Jesus, our deliverer from the coming wrath.
