1 « Poi ripiegammo e salimmo per la via di Bashan; e Og, re di Bashan, con tutta la sua gente, ci uscì contro per darci battaglia a Edrei.

And we turned, and went up the way to Bashan; and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, for battle at Edrei.

2 M a l'Eterno mi disse: "Non aver paura di lui, poiché io ti do nelle mani lui, tutta la sua gente e il suo paese; farai a lui quel che facesti a Sihon, re degli Amorei, che abitava a Heshbon".

And Jehovah said to me, Fear him not; for into thy hand have I given him, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

3 C osì l'Eterno, il nostro DIO, diede nelle nostre mani anche Og, re di Bashan, con tutta la sua gente; e noi lo sconfiggemmo senza lasciargli alcun superstite.

And Jehovah our God gave into our hand Og the king of Bashan also, and all his people; and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

4 I n quel tempo prendemmo tutte le sue città; non ci fu città che noi non prendessimo loro: sessanta città, tutta la regione di Argob, il regno di Og in Bashan.

And we took all his cities at that time: there was not a town which we took not from them, sixty cities, the whole region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

5 T utte queste città erano fortificate con alte mura, porte e sbarre, senza contare un gran numero di villaggi rurali.

All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars; besides unwalled towns very many.

6 N oi le votammo allo sterminio, come avevamo fatto di Sihon, re di Heshbon, distruggendo interamente tutte le città, uomini, donne e bambini.

And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sihon the king of Heshbon, utterly destroying every city, men, women and little ones.

7 M a riserbammo come nostro bottino tutto il bestiame e le spoglie delle città.

But all the cattle and the spoil of the cities we took as booty for ourselves.

8 I n quel tempo dunque prendemmo dalle mani dei due re degli Amorei il paese che è al di là del Giordano, dal torrente Arnon al monte Hermon,

And we took at that time the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, that were on this side the Jordan, from the river Arnon to mount Hermon

9 ( Hermon è chiamato dai Sidoni Sirion, e dagli Amorei Senir),

(the Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir):

10 t utte le città della pianura, tutto Galaad, tutto Bashan fino a Salkah e a Edrei, città del regno di Og in Bashan

all the cities of the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, as far as Salchah and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

11 P oiché Og, re di Bashan, era rimasto l'unico superstite della stirpe dei giganti. Ecco, il suo letto era un letto di ferro (e non si trova forse a Rabbah degli Ammoniti?). Esso misura nove cubiti di lunghezza e quattro cubiti di larghezza, secondo il cubito d'uomo.

For only Og the king of Bashan remained of the residue of giants: behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbah of the children of Ammon? its length was nine cubits, and its breadth four cubits, after the cubit of a man.

12 I n quel tempo ci impadronimmo di questo paese; io diedi ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi il territorio di Aroer, lungo il torrente Arnon fino a metà della regione montuosa di Galaad con le sue città;

And this land we took in possession at that time. From Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and the half of mount Gilead, and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites;

13 e diedi alla mezza tribú di Manasse il resto di Galaad e tutto Bashan, il regno di Og (tutta la regione di Argob con tutto Bashan si chiamava il paese dei giganti.

and the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh. (The whole region of Argob, even all Bashan, is called a land of giants.

14 J air, figlio di Manasse, prese tutta la regione di Argob, fino ai confini dei Gheshuriti e dei Maakathiti; e chiamò con il suo nome le borgate di Bashan, che anche oggi si chiamano le città di Jair).

Jair the son of Manasseh took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and called Bashan after his own name, Havoth-Jair, to this day.)

15 E diedi Galaad a Makir.

And I gave Gilead to Machir.

16 A i Rubeniti e ai Gaditi invece diedi il territorio da Galaad fino al torrente Arnon, con la metà del fiume che serve da confine, e fino al fiume Jabbok, frontiera dei figli di Ammon,

And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even to the river Arnon, the middle of the ravine and its border, as far as the river Jabbok, the border of the children of Ammon;

17 e l'Arabah, con il Giordano per confine, da Kinnereth fino alla sponda orientale del mare dell'Arabah sotto le pendici del Pisgah.

the plain also, and the Jordan, and border from Chinnereth as far as the sea of the plain, the salt sea, under the slopes of Pisgah eastward.

18 I n quel tempo io vi diedi quest'ordine, dicendo: "L'Eterno, il vostro DIO, vi ha dato questo paese perché lo possediate. Voi tutti, uomini di valore, passerete il Giordano armati, alla testa dei figli d'Israele, vostri fratelli.

And I commanded you at that time, saying, Jehovah your God hath given you this land to take possession of it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all combatants.

19 M a le vostre mogli, i vostri piccoli e il bestiame (so che avete molto bestiame) rimarranno nelle città che vi ho dato,

Only your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle,—I know that ye have much cattle,—shall abide in your cities which I have given you,

20 f inché l'Eterno abbia dato riposo ai vostri fratelli, come ha fatto per voi e prendano anch'essi possesso del paese che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, dà loro al di là del Giordano Poi ciascuno tornerà nell'eredità che vi ho dato".

until Jehovah give rest to your brethren, as well as to you, and they also take possession of the land that Jehovah your God giveth them beyond the Jordan; then shall ye return, each man to his possession, which I have given you.

21 I n quel tempo, ordinai pure a Giosuè, dicendo: "I tuoi occhi hanno visto tutto ciò che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, ha fatto a questi due re; lo stesso farà l'Eterno a tutti i regni che stai per attraversare.

And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that Jehovah your God hath done to these two kings: so will Jehovah do to all the kingdoms to which thou shalt go.

22 N on abbiate paura di loro, perché l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, combatterà egli stesso per voi".

Ye shall not fear them; for Jehovah your God, he will fight for you.

23 I n quel medesimo tempo, io supplicai l'Eterno, dicendo:

And I besought Jehovah at that time, saying,

24 " O Signore, o Eterno, tu hai cominciato a mostrare al tuo servo la tua grandezza e la tua mano potente; poiché qual è il dio in cielo o sulla terra, che possa fare le opere e i portenti simili a quelli che fai tu?

Lord Jehovah, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy powerful hand; for what God is in the heavens or in the earth that can do like to thy works, and like to thy might?

25 D eh, lasciami passare il Giordano per vedere il bel paese che è al di là del Giordano, la bella regione montuosa e il Libano".

Let me go over, I pray thee, and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

26 M a l'Eterno si adirò contro di me per causa vostra, e non mi esaudì. Così l'Eterno mi disse: "Basta così; non parlarmi piú di questa cosa.

But Jehovah was wroth with me on your account, and did not hear me; and Jehovah said to me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter!

27 S ali sulla vetta de Pisgah, volgi lo sguardo a ovest, a nord, a sud e a est e contempla coi tuoi occhi, perché tu non passerai questo Giordano.

Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes; for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

28 M a da' ordini a Giosuè, fortificalo e incoraggialo, perché lui passerà il Giordano alla testa di questo popolo e metterà Israele in possesso del paese che vedrai".

But charge Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall put them in possession of the land which thou shalt see.

29 C osì ci fermammo nella valle di fronte a Beth-Peor».

And we abode in the valley opposite to Beth-Peor.
