1 J acob siguió su camino, y llegó a la tierra de los orientales.

And Jacob continued his journey, and went into the land of the children of the east.

2 S e fijó, y vio en el campo un pozo; cerca de él había tres rebaños de ovejas, porque de ese pozo bebían los ganados. Una piedra muy grande tapaba la boca del pozo.

And he looked, and behold, there was a well in the fields, and behold there, three flocks of sheep were lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks, and a great stone was at the mouth of the well.

3 C uando todos los rebaños se reunían, se removía la piedra que tapaba el pozo, y se daba de beber a las ovejas; después se volvía a poner la piedra sobre la boca del pozo.

And when all the flocks were gathered there, they rolled the stone from the mouth of the well, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again on the mouth of the well in its place.

4 J acob les dijo: «Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde son ustedes?» Y ellos respondieron: «Somos de Jarán.»

And Jacob said to them, My brethren, whence are ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.

5 L es dijo entonces: «¿Conocen ustedes a Labán, el hijo de Najor?» Y ellos dijeron: «Sí, lo conocemos.»

And he said to them, Do ye know Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We do know.

6 J acob les dijo: «¿Se encuentra bien?» Y ellos contestaron: «Él se encuentra bien. De hecho, aquí viene su hija Raquel con las ovejas.»

And he said to them, Is he well? And they said, well; and behold, there comes Rachel his daughter with the sheep.

7 E ntonces él dijo: «Como pueden ver, aún es muy de día. Todavía no es tiempo de recoger el ganado. Denles agua a las ovejas, y llévenlas a los pastos.»

And he said, Behold, it is yet high day; it is not time that the cattle should be gathered together; water the sheep, and go, feed.

8 P ero ellos le respondieron: «No podemos hacerlo, hasta que se junten todos los rebaños. Entonces se quitará la piedra de la boca del pozo, y les daremos agua a las ovejas.»

And they said, We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the mouth of the well, and we water the sheep.

9 T odavía estaba él hablando con ellos, cuando llegó Raquel con el rebaño de su padre, pues ella era la pastora.

While he was still speaking to them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was a shepherdess.

10 R aquel era hija de Labán, hermano de la madre de Jacob, y el rebaño era de Labán. Cuando Jacob vio a Raquel, se acercó y removió la piedra de la boca del pozo, y dio de beber al rebaño,

And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well, and watered the sheep of Laban his mother's brother.

11 l uego besó a Raquel, y sin más se echó a llorar.

And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept.

12 E ntonces Jacob le dijo a Raquel que él era sobrino de su padre, pues era hijo de Rebeca. Ella corrió entonces a dar esta noticia a su padre.

And Jacob told Rachel that he was a brother of her father, and that he was Rebecca's son; and she ran and told her father.

13 A l oír Labán estas noticias de Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió a recibirlo, y lo abrazó y lo besó, y lo llevó a su casa; allí Jacob le contó a Labán todas estas cosas.

And it came to pass when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house; and he told Laban all these things.

14 Y Labán le dijo: «Ciertamente, tú eres de mi propia sangre.» Y Jacob se quedó con él todo un mes.

And Laban said to him, Thou art indeed my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him a month's time.

15 E ntonces Labán le dijo a Jacob: «¿Vas a trabajar para mí de balde, sólo porque eres mi sobrino? ¡Dime cuánto quieres que te pague!»

And Laban said to Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou serve me for nothing? tell me, what shall be thy wages?

16 L abán tenía dos hijas. La mayor se llamaba Lea, y la menor se llamaba Raquel.

And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger, Rachel.

17 L os ojos de Lea eran tiernos, pero Raquel tenía una bella presencia y era de hermoso parecer.

And the eyes of Leah were tender; but Rachel was of beautiful form and beautiful countenance.

18 J acob se enamoró de Raquel, y dijo: «Por Raquel, tu hija menor, yo te serviré siete años.»

And Jacob loved Rachel, and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

19 Y Labán respondió: «Es mejor que te la dé a ti, y no a otro hombre. Quédate conmigo.»

And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

20 A sí fue como Jacob trabajó siete años por Raquel; pero le parecieron unos cuantos días, porque la amaba.

And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they were in his eyes as single days, because he loved her.

21 U n día, Jacob le dijo a Labán: «Mi plazo se ha cumplido. Dame a mi mujer, para unirme a ella.»

And Jacob said to Laban, Give my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.

22 L abán juntó entonces a todos los varones de aquel lugar, y ofreció un banquete.

And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

23 C uando llegó la noche, Labán tomó a su hija Lea, y se la llevó a Jacob; y él se unió a ella.

And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in to her.

24 A demás, Labán le dio a su hija Lea, por criada, a su sierva Zilpa.

And Laban gave to her Zilpah, his maidservant, to be maidservant to Leah his daughter.

25 C uando llegó la mañana, Jacob vio que estaba con Lea; así que le dijo a Labán: «¿Qué es lo que me has hecho? ¿Acaso no te he servido por Raquel? ¿Por qué me has engañado?»

And it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done to me? Have I not served thee for Rachel? Why then hast thou deceived me?

26 Y Labán respondió: «Aquí no acostumbramos dar a la hija menor antes que a la mayor.

And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.

27 C umple esta semana, y se te dará también la otra, si trabajas para mí otros siete años.»

Fulfil the week this one: then we will give thee the other one also, for the service that thou shalt serve me yet seven other years.

28 J acob lo hizo así. Cumplió aquella semana, y Labán le dio a su hija Raquel por mujer.

And Jacob did so, and fulfilled the week this one, and he gave him Rachel his daughter to be his wife.

29 A su hija Raquel, Labán le dio por criada a su sierva Bilá.

And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, Bilhah, his maidservant, to be her maidservant.

30 Y Jacob se unió también a Raquel, y la amó mucho más que a Lea; y trabajó para Labán siete años más. Los hijos de Jacob

And he went in also to Rachel; and he loved also Rachel more than Leah. And he served with him yet seven other years.

31 A l ver el Señor que Lea era menospreciada, le dio hijos; pero Raquel era estéril.

And when Jehovah saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.

32 Y Lea concibió y dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Rubén, pues dijo: «El Señor ha mirado mi aflicción, así que ahora mi marido me amará.»

And Leah conceived, and bore a son, and called his name Reuben; for she said, Because Jehovah has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.

33 V olvió a concebir, y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces dijo: «El Señor oyó que yo era menospreciada, así que también me ha dado este hijo.» Por eso le puso por nombre Simeón.

And she again conceived, and bore a son, and said, Because Jehovah has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this one also; and she called his name Simeon.

34 C oncibió una vez más, y dio a luz un hijo. Y dijo: «Esta vez mi marido se unirá conmigo, pues ya le he dado tres hijos.» Por eso le puso por nombre Leví.

And she again conceived, and bore a son, and said, Now this time will my husband be united to me, for I have borne him three sons; therefore was his name called Levi.

35 T odavía concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces dijo: «Esta vez alabaré al Señor.» Por eso le puso por nombre Judá. Y dejó de dar a luz.

And she again conceived, and bore a son, and said, This time will I praise Jehovah; therefore she called his name Judah. And she ceased to bear.
