1 « Yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, me dirijo a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan en todo el país. ¡Que la paz les sea multiplicada!

Nebuchadnezzar the king unto all the peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied unto you.

2 E s conveniente que yo dé a conocer las señales y milagros que el Dios Altísimo ha hecho conmigo.

It hath seemed good unto me to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God hath wrought toward me.

3 ¡ Cuán grandes son sus señales, y cuán prodigiosas sus maravillas! Su reino es un reino sempiterno. Su señorío va de generación en generación.

How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

4 » Yo, Nabucodonosor, gozaba en mi palacio de tranquilidad y prosperidad.

I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.

5 P ero tuve un sueño que me espantó, y mientras yacía en mi lecho, las imágenes y visiones que pasaban por mi cabeza me dejaron perturbado.

I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

6 P or eso mandé que se presentaran ante mí todos los sabios de Babilonia, para que me dieran a conocer la interpretación del sueño.

And I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

7 Y vinieron magos, astrólogos, hechiceros y adivinos, y yo les conté mi sueño, pero ellos no me pudieron decir lo que significaba.

Then came in the scribes, the magicians, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation of it.

8 F inalmente, se presentó ante mí Daniel, también llamado Beltsasar, como el nombre de mi dios, en quien habita el espíritu de los dioses santos. Yo le conté mi sueño, y le dije:

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and before him I told the dream:

9 “ Beltsasar, jefe de los magos: según entiendo, en ti radica el espíritu de los dioses santos, y ningún misterio te es oculto. Hazme saber qué significan las visiones que he tenido en mi sueño.

O Belteshazzar, master of the scribes, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret is too hard for thee, tell me the visions of my dream which I have seen, and the interpretation of it.

10 L o que yo veía en mi mente, mientras estaba en mi lecho, es lo siguiente: Me parecía ver que en medio de la tierra había un árbol de gran altura.

Thus were the visions of my head upon my bed: I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.

11 E ste árbol crecía y se hacía fuerte, y su copa llegaba hasta el cielo. ¡Se podía ver desde los lugares más lejanos de la tierra!

The tree grew, and was strong, and its height reached unto the heavens, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth.

12 E ra de hermoso follaje y de abundante fruto, y de él podían alimentarse todos. Todas las bestias se refugiaban bajo su sombra, en sus ramas anidaban las aves del cielo, y de él se alimentaba la humanidad entera.

Its leaves were beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all: the beasts of the field found shade under it, and the birds of the heavens dwelt in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.

13 ” Mientras yacía en mi lecho, en las visiones de mi mente vi descender del cielo a un vigilante santo,

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from the heavens;

14 q ue a gran voz clamaba: ‘¡Derriben el árbol, y córtenle las ramas! ¡Quítenle el follaje, y esparzan su fruto! ¡Espanten a las bestias que yacen bajo su sombra, y a las aves que anidan en sus ramas!

he cried aloud, and said thus: Hew down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit; let the beasts get away from under it, and the birds from its branches.

15 P ero dejen en la tierra sólo la cepa de sus raíces, y sujétenlas con cadenas de hierro y de bronce entre la hierba del campo. ¡Dejen que lo empape el rocío del cielo, y que crezca entre las bestias y entre la hierba del campo!

Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be bathed with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth.

16 ¡ Que cambie su corazón humano y se le dé un corazón de bestia, y que transcurran sobre él siete tiempos!

Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

17 E sta sentencia la han decretado los vigilantes, y los santos han ordenado ejecutarla, para que todos los seres vivos reconozcan que el Altísimo es el señor del reino de los hombres, y que él entrega este reino a quien él quiere, y entroniza en él al hombre más humilde.’

This sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the decision by the word of the holy ones: that the living may know that the Most High ruleth over the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

18 ” Yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, he tenido este sueño, y tú, Beltsasar, me dirás qué es lo que significa, porque todos los sabios de mi reino no han podido decírmelo. Pero tú sí puedes dármelo a saber, porque en ti habita el espíritu de los dioses santos.”»

This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and thou, Belteshazzar, tell the interpretation, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation; but thou art able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

19 D urante casi una hora Daniel, también llamado Beltsasar, quedó atónito y sus pensamientos lo perturbaban. Pero el rey le habló y le dijo: «Beltsasar, que no te perturben ni el sueño ni su interpretación.» Beltsasar respondió y dijo: «Mi señor, que el sueño y su interpretación se hagan realidad en tus enemigos y en los que mal te quieren.

Then Daniel, whose name is Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, nor its interpretation, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and its interpretation to thine enemies!

20 E l árbol que viste crecer y hacerse fuerte, y cuya copa llegaba hasta el cielo y podía verse desde los lugares más lejanos de la tierra,

The tree that thou sawest, which grew and was strong, whose height reached unto the heavens, and the sight of it to all the earth;

21 y cuyo follaje era hermoso y su fruto abundante, y del cual se alimentaban todos, y bajo cuya sombra se refugiaban las bestias del campo, y en cuyas ramas anidaban las aves del cielo,

whose leaves were beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and in whose branches the birds of the heavens had their habitation:

22 e s Su Majestad, que ha crecido y se ha hecho fuerte, pues su grandeza ha aumentado hasta alcanzar el cielo, y su dominio llega hasta los confines de la tierra.

it is thou, O king, who art grown and become strong; for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto the heavens, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

23 E n cuanto al vigilante santo que Su Majestad vio descender del cielo, y que decía: “Corten el árbol y destrúyanlo, pero dejen la cepa de sus raíces en la tierra y entre la hierba del campo, y sujétenla con cadenas de hierro y de bronce y que lo empape el rocío del cielo, y que viva entre las bestias del campo, hasta que transcurran sobre él siete tiempos”,

And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from the heavens, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be bathed with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him:

24 l a interpretación es la siguiente: El Altísimo ha dictado su sentencia sobre Su Majestad, mi señor,

this is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which cometh upon my lord the king:

25 y Su Majestad será expulsado de entre los hombres y habitará entre las bestias del campo; lo alimentarán con la hierba del campo, como a los bueyes, y se bañará con el rocío del cielo. Siete tiempos transcurrirán hasta que Su Majestad reconozca que el Altísimo es el señor del reino de los hombres, y que él entrega ese reino a quien él quiere.

They shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and thou shalt be bathed with the dew of heaven; and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the Most High ruleth over the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

26 E n cuanto a la orden de dejar en la tierra la cepa de las raíces del mismo árbol, eso significa que el reino de Su Majestad se mantendrá firme, luego de que Su Majestad reconozca que quien gobierna es el cielo.

And whereas it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; thy kingdom shall remain unto thee, after that thou shalt know that the heavens do rule.

27 P or lo tanto, acepte Su Majestad mi consejo y redima sus pecados impartiendo justicia, y sus iniquidades tratando a los oprimidos con misericordia, pues tal vez así su tranquilidad se vea prolongada.»

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

28 T odo esto le sucedió al rey Nabucodonosor.

All this came upon king Nebuchadnezzar.

29 P ero doce meses después, mientras éste se paseaba por el palacio real de Babilonia,

At the end of twelve months he was walking upon the royal palace of Babylon:

30 e xclamó: «¿Acaso no es ésta la gran Babilonia, que con la fuerza de mi poder y para gloria de mi majestad he constituido como sede del reino?»

the king spoke and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

31 T odavía estaba hablando el rey cuando del cielo vino una voz, que decía: «A ti, rey Nabucodonosor, se te hace saber que el reino se te ha arrebatado.

While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from the heavens: King Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from thee;

32 S erás expulsado de entre los hombres, vivirás entre las bestias del campo, y te alimentarán como a los bueyes. Pasarán siete tiempos sobre ti, hasta que reconozcas que el Altísimo es el señor del reino de los hombres, y que él entrega este reino a quien él quiere.»

and they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the Most High ruleth over the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

33 E n ese mismo instante se cumplió esta sentencia sobre Nabucodonosor, y éste fue expulsado de entre los hombres y se alimentaba de hierba, como los bueyes, y su cuerpo se empapaba con el rocío del cielo, hasta que el pelo le creció como plumas de águila, y las uñas como las garras de las aves.

The same hour was the word fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar; and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen; and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, till his hair grew like eagles', and his nails like birds'.

34 « Pero al fin del tiempo yo, Nabucodonosor, levanté los ojos al cielo y recobré la razón. Bendije entonces al Altísimo; alabé y glorifiqué al que vive para siempre, cuyo dominio es sempiterno, y cuyo reino permanece por todas las edades.

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto the heavens, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.

35 T odos los habitantes de la tierra son considerados como nada; el Altísimo hace lo que él quiere con el ejército del cielo y con los habitantes de la tierra, y no hay quien pueda impedírselo, ni cuestionar lo que hace.

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he doeth according to his will in the army of the heavens, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

36 E n ese mismo instante recobré la razón y la majestad de mi reino, junto con mi dignidad y mi grandeza, y mis gobernadores y mis consejeros acudieron a mí, y fui restablecido en mi reino y se me dio mayor grandeza.

At the same time mine understanding returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my nobles sought me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added unto me.

37 P or eso yo, Nabucodonosor, alabo y engrandezco y glorifico al Rey del cielo, porque todas sus obras son verdaderas, y sus caminos justos, y él puede humillar a los que se muestran soberbios.»

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of the heavens, all whose works are truth, and his paths judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
