1 U n día, cuando Isaac ya era anciano y sus ojos se le habían nublado hasta perder la vista, llamó a Esaú, su hijo mayor, y le dijo: «¡Hijo mío!» Y Esaú respondió: «¡Aquí estoy!»

And it came to pass when Isaac had become old, and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, that he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, My son! And he said to him, Here am I.

2 I saac le dijo: «Mira, ya soy viejo, y puedo morir en cualquier momento.

And he said, Behold now, I am become old; I know not the day of my death.

3 A sí que toma tus armas, es decir, tu aljaba y tu arco, y ve al campo y caza algo para mí;

And now, I pray thee, take thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field and hunt me venison,

4 h azme luego un guisado, como a mí me gusta, y tráemelo para que lo coma. Así, yo te bendeciré antes de que muera.»

and prepare me a savoury dish such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, in order that my soul may bless thee before I die.

5 M ientras Isaac hablaba con su hijo Esaú, Rebeca escuchaba. Y Esaú se fue al campo para cazar algo y traerlo.

And Rebecca heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt venison, to bring it.

6 E ntonces Rebeca fue a hablar con su hijo Jacob, y le dijo: «Acabo de oír a tu padre hablar con tu hermano Esaú. Le dijo:

And Rebecca spoke to Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak to Esau thy brother, saying,

7 “ Caza algo, y tráemelo; hazme un guisado, para que yo lo coma y ante el Señor te bendiga antes de que muera.”

Bring me venison, and prepare me a savoury dish, that I may eat, and bless thee before Jehovah, before my death.

8 A sí que, hijo mío, escúchame y haz lo que voy a ordenarte:

And now, my son, hearken to my voice in that which I command thee.

9 V e al ganado ahora mismo, y de entre las cabras tráeme de allí dos buenos cabritos. Con ellos haré para tu padre un guiso, como a él le gusta.

Go, I pray thee, to the flock, and fetch me thence two good kids of the goats. And I will make of them a savoury dish for thy father, such as he loves.

10 L uego tú se lo llevarás a tu padre, para que él coma y te bendiga antes de que muera.»

And thou shalt bring to thy father, that he may eat, in order that he may bless thee before his death.

11 P ero Jacob le dijo a su madre: «Si te fijas, mi hermano Esaú es muy velludo, pero yo soy lampiño.

And Jacob said to Rebecca his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.

12 P uede ser que mi padre me palpe; entonces creerá que me estoy burlando de él, y en vez de bendición recibiré maldición.»

My father perhaps will feel me, and I shall be in his sight as one who mocks, and I shall bring a curse on me, and not a blessing.

13 Y su madre le respondió: «Hijo mío, ¡que caiga sobre mí tu maldición! Tú, hazme caso y ve a traerme los cabritos.»

And his mother said to him, On me thy curse, my son! Only hearken to my voice, and go, fetch.

14 J acob fue por los cabritos, y se los llevó a su madre; y ella hizo un guisado, como le gustaba a Isaac.

And he went, and fetched and brought to his mother. And his mother prepared a savoury dish such as his father loved.

15 L uego, tomó Rebeca la ropa de Esaú, su hijo mayor, la mejor ropa que ella tenía en casa, y con ella vistió a Jacob, su hijo menor;

And Rebecca took the clothes of her elder son Esau, the costly ones which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son;

16 a demás, con la piel de los cabritos le cubrió las manos y la parte del cuello donde no tenía vello,

and she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck;

17 y puso en las manos de Jacob, su hijo, el guisado y el pan que ella había preparado.

and she gave the savoury dishes and the bread that she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

18 E ntonces Jacob fue a ver a su padre, y le dijo: «¡Padre mío!» Isaac respondió: «Aquí estoy. ¿Quién eres tú, hijo mío?»

And he came to his father, and said, My father! And he said, Here am I: who art thou, my son?

19 J acob le dijo a su padre: «Soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito. Ya hice lo que me pediste. Así que ven y siéntate a comer de lo que he cazado, para que me bendigas.»

And Jacob said to his father, I am Esau, thy firstborn. I have done according as thou didst say to me. Arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, in order that thy soul may bless me.

20 I saac le dijo a su hijo: «¿Cómo fue que tan pronto hallaste algo que cazar, hijo mío?» Y él respondió: «Es porque el Señor, tu Dios, me permitió encontrarlo.»

And Isaac said to his son, How is it that thou hast found so quickly, my son? And he said, Because Jehovah thy God put in my way.

21 I saac le dijo a Jacob: «Acércate, hijo mío, que voy a palparte para saber si eres mi hijo Esaú, o no.»

And Isaac said to Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be really my son Esau or not.

22 J acob se acercó a Isaac, su padre, y éste lo palpó y dijo: «La voz es la de Jacob, pero las manos son las de Esaú.»

And Jacob drew near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

23 Y no lo reconoció, pues tenía las manos velludas como las de Esaú, así que lo bendijo,

And he did not discern him, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands; and he blessed him.

24 a unque le preguntó: «¿Eres tú mi hijo Esaú?» Y Jacob respondió: «Sí, yo soy.»

And he said, Art thou really my son Esau? And he said, It is I.

25 D ijo también Isaac: «Acércame lo que cazaste, hijo mío, para que yo coma y luego te bendiga.» Y Jacob le acercó el guiso, y además le llevó vino, e Isaac comió y bebió.

And he said, Bring near to me, that I may eat of my son's venison, in order that my soul may bless thee. And he brought near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

26 E ntonces Isaac le dijo: «Ahora, hijo mío, acércate y dame un beso.»

And his father Isaac said to him, Come near, now, and kiss me, my son.

27 J acob se acercó y lo besó. Cuando Isaac percibió el olor de su ropa, lo bendijo así: «¡Fíjense en el aroma de mi hijo! ¡Es como el aroma del campo que el Señor ha bendecido!

And he came near, and kissed him. And he smelt the smell of his clothes, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which Jehovah hath blessed.

28 ¡ Que Dios te dé del rocío del cielo y de las grosuras de la tierra! ¡Que te dé abundante trigo y vino!

And God give thee of the dew of heaven, And of the fatness of the earth, And plenty of corn and new wine.

29 ¡ Que te sirvan los pueblos! ¡Que las naciones se inclinen ante ti! ¡Conviértete en señor de tus hermanos, y que ante ti se inclinen los hijos de tu madre! ¡Malditos sean los que te maldigan, y benditos sean los que te bendigan!»

Let peoples serve thee, And races bow down to thee. Be lord over thy brethren, And let thy mother's sons bow down to thee. Cursed be they that curse thee, And blessed be they that bless thee.

30 P ero sucedió que, cuando Isaac acabó de bendecir a Jacob, y apenas había salido Jacob de la presencia de su padre, su hermano Esaú volvió de andar cazando.

And it came to pass when Isaac had ended blessing Jacob, and when Jacob was only just gone out from Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came from his hunting.

31 T ambién él hizo un guisado, y se lo llevó a su padre y le dijo: «Levántate, padre mío, y come de lo que tu hijo ha cazado, para que me bendigas.»

And he also had prepared savoury dishes, and he brought in to his father, and said to his father, Let my father arise and eat of his son's venison, in order that thy soul may bless me.

32 I saac, su padre, le dijo: «¿Y tú quién eres?» Y él le contestó: «Pues soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito.»

And Isaac his father said to him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn, Esau.

33 A Isaac le sobrevino un gran estremecimiento, y dijo: «¿Y quién es el que vino aquí, y trajo lo que cazó, y me dio a comer de todo ello antes de que tú vinieras? Yo le di mi bendición, y ha quedado bendito.»

Then Isaac trembled with exceeding great trembling, and said, Who was he, then, that hunted venison and brought to me? And I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him; also blessed he shall be.

34 C uando Esaú oyó las palabras de su padre, lanzó una grande y amarga exclamación, y dijo: «¡Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío!»

When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said to his father, Bless me—me also, my father!

35 I saac dijo: «Es que vino tu hermano, y con engaños tomó tu bendición.»

And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and has taken away thy blessing.

36 Y Esaú respondió: «¡Qué bien le queda el nombre Jacob! ¡Ya me ha suplantado dos veces! ¡Primero me arrebató mi primogenitura, y ahora me ha arrebatado mi bendición!» Y añadió: «¿No has reservado una bendición para mí?»

And he said, Is it not therefore he was named Jacob, for he has supplanted me now twice? He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

37 I saac le respondió a Esaú: «Es que yo lo he puesto como señor tuyo, y le he entregado a todos sus hermanos para que sean sus siervos; además, lo he provisto de trigo y de vino; ¿qué puedo hacer ahora por ti, hijo mío?»

And Isaac answered and said to Esau, Behold, I have made him lord over thee, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants, and with corn and new wine have I supplied him—and what can I do now for thee, my son?

38 E saú respondió a su padre: «Padre mío, ¿acaso no tienes más que una sola bendición? ¡Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío!» Y levantó Esaú el tono de su voz, y lloró.

And Esau said to his father, Hast thou then but one blessing, my father? bless me—me also, my father! And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

39 E ntonces Isaac, su padre, le respondió así: «Tendrás tu habitación en lo mejor de la tierra, y gozarás del rocío de los cielos de arriba.

And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, And of the dew of heaven from above;

40 V ivirás gracias a tu espada, y servirás a tu hermano; y una vez que te hayas fortalecido te quitarás del cuello su yugo.» Jacob huye de Esaú

And by thy sword shalt thou live; And thou shalt serve thy brother; And it shall come to pass when thou rovest about, That thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

41 E saú llegó a odiar a Jacob por causa de la bendición que había recibido de su padre, y dijo en su corazón: «Ya están cerca los días de guardar luto por mi padre. Entonces mataré a mi hermano Jacob.»

And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand, and I will slay my brother Jacob.

42 C uando llegaron a oídos de Rebeca estas palabras de Esaú, su hijo mayor, ella mandó llamar a Jacob, su hijo menor, y le dijo: «Mira, tu hermano Esaú halla consuelo cuando piensa en matarte.

And the words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebecca. And she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, comforts himself that he will kill thee.

43 A sí que hazme caso, hijo mío, y prepárate a huir a la casa de mi hermano Labán, que vive en Jarán.

And now, my son, hearken to my voice, and arise, flee to Laban my brother, to Haran;

44 Q uédate a vivir con él por algún tiempo, hasta que se calme el enojo de tu hermano.

and abide with him some days, until thy brother's fury turn away—

45 C uando se haya aplacado la ira de tu hermano contra ti, y olvide lo que le has hecho, yo te haré volver de allá. ¿Por qué voy a perderlos a ustedes dos en un solo día?»

until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget what thou hast done to him; then I will send and fetch thee thence. Why should I be bereaved even of you both in one day?

46 A Isaac, Rebeca le dijo: «Mi vida es un fastidio, por culpa de las hititas que viven en esta tierra. Si Jacob toma como mujer a alguna de estas hititas, ¿para qué quiero seguir viviendo?»

And Rebecca said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good should my life do me?
