1 P or eso mismos días el rey Herodes mandó aprehender a algunos miembros de la iglesia para maltratarlos.

At that time Herod the king laid his hands on some of those of the assembly to do them hurt,

2 A Jacobo, hermano de Juan, lo mató a filo de espada

and slew James, the brother of John, with the sword.

3 Y al ver que esto agradó a los judíos, mandó aprehender también a Pedro, en la fiesta de los panes sin levadura.

And seeing that it was pleasing to the Jews, he went on to take Peter also: (and they were the days of unleavened bread:)

4 L uego lo encarceló y lo entregó a cuatro grupos de soldados, para que lo vigilaran. Cada grupo estaba compuesto de cuatro soldados, y Herodes tenía la intención de presentarlo ante el pueblo después de la pascua.

whom having seized he put in prison, having delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep, purposing after the passover to bring him out to the people.

5 M ientras que Pedro era bien vigilado en la cárcel, en la iglesia se oraba constantemente a Dios por él. Pedro es librado de la cárcel

Peter therefore was kept in the prison; but unceasing prayer was made by the assembly to God concerning him.

6 L a noche en que Herodes lo iba a sacar, Pedro estaba durmiendo entre dos soldados, sujeto con dos cadenas, y frente a la puerta había también guardias que vigilaban la cárcel.

And when Herod was going to bring him forth, that night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and guards before the door kept the prison.

7 D e pronto una luz iluminó la cárcel y apareció un ángel del Señor, el cual tocó a Pedro en el costado para despertarlo, y le dijo: «¡De prisa, levántate!» Y al instante las cadenas se le cayeron de las manos.

And lo, an angel of Lord came there, and a light shone in the prison: and having smitten the side of Peter, he roused him up, saying, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off his hands.

8 E ntonces el ángel le dijo: «Recoge tu ropa y átate las sandalias; envuélvete en tu manto y sígueme.» Y Pedro obedeció.

And the angel said to him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he says to him, Cast thine upper garment about thee and follow me.

9 S alieron de la celda y Pedro lo siguió, aunque creía que lo que el ángel hacía era una visión.

And going forth he followed and did not know that what was happening by means of the angel was real, but supposed he saw a vision.

10 P asaron la primera y la segunda guardia, y al llegar a la puerta de hierro que daba a la ciudad, ¡ésta se abrió por sí misma! Una vez afuera, cruzaron una calle y luego el ángel desapareció.

And having passed through a first and second guard, they came to the iron gate which leads into the city, which opened to them of itself; and going forth they went down one street, and immediately the angel left him.

11 E ntonces Pedro volvió en sí, y dijo: «Ahora me doy cuenta de que en verdad el Señor envió su ángel para librarme de Herodes y de todo lo que el pueblo judío esperaba hacer.»

And Peter, being come to himself, said, Now I know certainly that Lord has sent forth his angel and has taken me out of the hand of Herod and all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 M ientras pensaba así, llegó a casa de María, la madre de Juan, a quien todos conocían como Marcos. Muchos hermanos se habían reunido allí para orar.

And having become clearly conscious, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was surnamed Mark, where were many gathered together and praying.

13 C uando Pedro llamó a la puerta del patio, una muchacha llamada Rode salió a ver quien llamaba,

And when he had knocked at the door of the entry, a maid came to listen, by name Rhoda;

14 y al reconocer la voz de Pedro se puso tan alegre que no abrió, sino que corrió a decir que Pedro estaba a la puerta.

and having recognised the voice of Peter, through joy did not open the entry, but running in, reported that Peter was standing before the entry.

15 E llos le dijeron que estaba loca. Pero ante su insistencia, ellos dijeron: «¡Ha de ser su ángel!»

And they said to her, Thou art mad. But she maintained that it was so. And they said, It is his angel.

16 M ientras tanto, Pedro seguía llamando; así que cuando abrieron y lo vieron, se quedaron atónitos.

But Peter continued knocking: and having opened, they saw him and were astonished.

17 P ero Pedro les hizo señas con la mano para que callaran, y entonces les contó cómo el Señor lo había sacado de la cárcel. Y añadió: «Digan esto a Jacobo y a los hermanos.» Luego salió, y se fue a otro lugar.

And having made a sign to them with his hand to be silent, he related how the Lord had brought him out of prison; and he said, Report these things to James and to the brethren. And he went out and went to another place.

18 C uando amaneció, hubo mucho alboroto entre los soldados, pues no sabían qué había pasado con Pedro.

And when it was day there was no small disturbance among the soldiers, what then was become of Peter.

19 H erodes lo buscó y, como no lo halló, hizo interrogar a los guardias y luego ordenó que los mataran. Pedro, por su parte, salió de Judea y se fue a Cesarea, donde se quedó. Muerte de Herodes

And Herod having sought him and not found him, having examined the guards, commanded to be executed. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea and stayed.

20 H erodes estaba muy enojado con los habitantes de Tiro y de Sidón, pero ellos se pusieron de acuerdo y sobornaron al camarero mayor del rey, un hombre llamado Blasto, para que los llevara ante él; y es que querían llegar a un arreglo amistoso, pues sus abastos los recibían a través del territorio del rey.

And he was in bitter hostility with Tyrians and Sidonians; but they came to him with one accord, and, having gained Blastus the king's chamberlain, sought peace, because their country was nourished by the king's.

21 E l día convenido, Herodes llegó vestido con sus ropas reales y se sentó en el trono para dirigirles un discurso formal.

And on a set day, clothed in royal apparel and sitting on the elevated seat, Herod made a public oration to them.

22 E l pueblo estaba muy emocionado y lo aclamaba a grandes gritos: «¡Queremos voz de Dios, y no voz de un hombre!»

And the people cried out, A god's voice and not a man's.

23 E n ese momento, un ángel del Señor lo hirió porque no le dio la gloria a Dios, y Herodes murió agusanado.

And immediately an angel of Lord smote him, because he did not give the glory to God, and he expired, eaten of worms.

24 M ientras tanto, la palabra del Señor seguía extendiéndose y multiplicándose.

But the word of God grew and spread itself.

25 C uando Bernabé y Saulo cumplieron su servicio, volvieron de Jerusalén y se llevaron con ellos a Juan, también conocido como Marcos.

And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, having fulfilled the service, taking also with them John, surnamed Mark.
