1 D espués de Asa reinó en su lugar su hijo Josafat, el cual se impuso por la fuerza sobre Israel.

And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

2 E n todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá puso ejércitos, y colocó guarniciones en Judá y en las ciudades de Efraín que su padre Asa había conquistado.

And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had taken.

3 E l Señor estuvo con Josafat, porque éste no se fue tras los baales, sino que siguió los caminos por los que antes anduvo David, su padre;

And Jehovah was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baals;

4 b uscó al Dios de sus antepasados y siguió sus mandamientos y no lo que hacían los de Israel.

but he sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

5 P or eso el Señor confirmó en sus manos el reino, y todo Judá le daba tributo, así que llegó a tener grandes y abundantes riquezas y esplendor.

And Jehovah established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

6 S e entrego de corazón a los caminos del Señor, y quitó de en medio de Judá los lugares altos y las imágenes de Asera.

And he took courage in the ways of Jehovah; moreover, he removed the high places and Asherahs out of Judah.

7 A l tercer año de su reinado, Josafat envió a sus príncipes Ben Jayil, Abdías, Zacarías, Natanael y Micaías, para que instruyeran a la gente en las ciudades de Judá.

And in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethaneel, and Micah, to teach in the cities of Judah;

8 C on ellos envió a los levitas Semaías, Netanías, Zebadías, Asael, Semiramot, Jonatán, Adonías, Tobías y Tobadonías, y también a los sacerdotes Elisama y Jorán.

and with them the Levites: Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-Adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

9 É stos llevaban consigo el libro de la ley del Señor, y recorrieron todas las ciudades de Judá enseñando al pueblo.

And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of Jehovah with them; and they went about through all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

10 E l pavor del Señor dominaba a todos los reinos vecinos de Judá, y éstos nunca se atrevieron a declararle la guerra a Josafat.

And the terror of Jehovah was upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, and they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

11 L os filisteos le pagaban a Josafat tributos de plata y le llevaban regalos. También los árabes le llevaban ganados y hasta siete mil setecientos carneros y siete mil setecientos machos cabríos.

And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and tribute-silver. The Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.

12 C on esto, Josafat fue ganando mucha fuerza, y edificó en Judá fortalezas y ciudades de aprovisionamiento.

And Jehoshaphat waxed exceeding great; and he built in Judah castles and store-cities.

13 A cumuló muchas provisiones en las ciudades de Judá, y en Jerusalén tenía hombres muy valientes y aguerridos.

And he had much business in the cities of Judah; and men of war, strong and valiant, in Jerusalem.

14 S egún sus casas paternas y los jefes de los legiones de Judá, su número era el siguiente: Trescientos mil guerreros muy esforzados, bajo el mando del general Adnas.

And these are the numbers of them according to their fathers' houses. Of Judah the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valour;

15 D oscientos ochenta mil soldados, bajo el mando del jefe Johanán.

and next to him was Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;

16 D oscientos mil valientes, bajo el mando de Amasías hijo de Zicri, que se había presentado voluntariamente para servir al Señor.

and next to him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to Jehovah; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

17 D oscientos mil guerreros armados de arco y escudo, bajo el mando de Eliada, un benjaminita muy valeroso.

And of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand, armed with bow and shield;

18 C iento ochenta mil hombres en pie de guerra, bajo el mando de Jozabad.

and next to him was Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready prepared for war.

19 T odos ellos estaban al servicio del rey, sin contar a los que el rey mismo había puesto en las ciudades fortificadas de todo Judá.

These were they that waited on the king, besides those that the king had put in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
