1 U nd sein Sohn Josaphat ward König an seiner Statt und ward mächtig wider Israel.

And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

2 U nd er legte Kriegsvolk in alle festen Städte Juda's und setzte Amtleute im Lande Juda und in den Städten Ephraims, die sein Vater Asa gewonnen hatte.

And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had taken.

3 U nd der HERR war mit Josaphat; denn er wandelte in den vorigen Wegen seines Vaters David und suchte nicht die Baalim,

And Jehovah was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baals;

4 s ondern den Gott seines Vaters, und wandelte in seinen Geboten und nicht nach den Werken Israels.

but he sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

5 D arum bestätigte ihm der HERR das Königreich; und ganz Juda gab Josaphat Geschenke, und er hatte Reichtum und Ehre die Menge.

And Jehovah established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

6 U nd da sein Herz mutig ward in den Wegen des HERRN, tat er fürder ab die Höhen und Ascherabilder aus Juda.

And he took courage in the ways of Jehovah; moreover, he removed the high places and Asherahs out of Judah.

7 I m dritten Jahr seines Königreichs sandte er seine Fürsten Ben-Hail, Obadja, Sacharja, Nathanael und Michaja, daß sie lehren sollten in den Städten Juda's;

And in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethaneel, and Micah, to teach in the cities of Judah;

8 u nd mit ihnen die Leviten Semaja, Nethanja, Sebadja, Asael, Semiramoth, Jonathan, Adonia, Tobia und Tob-Adonia; und mit ihnen die Priester Elisama und Joram.

and with them the Levites: Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-Adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

9 U nd sie lehrten in Juda und hatten das Gesetzbuch des HERRN mit sich und zogen umher in allen Städten Juda's und lehrten das Volk.

And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of Jehovah with them; and they went about through all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

10 U nd es kam die Furcht des HERRN über alle Königreiche in den Landen, die um Juda her lagen, daß sie nicht stritten wider Josaphat.

And the terror of Jehovah was upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, and they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

11 U nd die Philister brachten Josaphat Geschenke, eine Last Silber; und die Araber brachten ihm siebentausend und siebenhundert Widder und siebentausend und siebenhundert Böcke.

And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and tribute-silver. The Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.

12 A lso nahm Josaphat zu und ward immer größer; und er baute in Juda Burgen und Kornstädte

And Jehoshaphat waxed exceeding great; and he built in Judah castles and store-cities.

13 u nd hatte viel Vorrat in den Städten Juda's und streitbare Männer und gewaltige Leute zu Jerusalem.

And he had much business in the cities of Judah; and men of war, strong and valiant, in Jerusalem.

14 U nd dies war die Ordnung nach ihren Vaterhäusern: in Juda waren Oberste über tausend: Adna, ein Oberster und mit ihm waren dreihunderttausend gewaltige Männer;

And these are the numbers of them according to their fathers' houses. Of Judah the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valour;

15 N eben ihm war Johanan, der Oberste, und mit ihm waren zweihundertachtzigtausend;

and next to him was Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;

16 n eben ihm war Amasja, der Sohn Sichris, der Freiwillige des HERRN, und mit ihm waren zweihundertausend gewaltige Männer;

and next to him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to Jehovah; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

17 u nd von den Kindern Benjamin war Eljada, ein gewaltiger Mann, und mit ihm waren zweihunderttausend, die mit Bogen und Schild gerüstet waren;

And of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand, armed with bow and shield;

18 n eben ihm war Josabad, und mit ihm waren hundertachtzigtausend Gerüstete zum Heer.

and next to him was Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready prepared for war.

19 D iese dienten alle dem König, außer denen, die der König noch gelegt hatte in die festen Städte im ganzen Juda.

These were they that waited on the king, besides those that the king had put in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
